My store had all of the floor models of Craftsman Wet/Dry Vacs on clearance yesterday. It looks like the new, downsized tool department won't have any out for display. They are just going to have a wall of boxes going forward.

I bought this beast for about $45:

They said it was missing accessories, but everything was in the bottom. My only issue is that it is way bigger than I wanted for a new vacuum.

Often times, however, I'm working on something that isn't easy to reach with a hammer, or if it's something under a car (no lift), it's difficult, and dangerous, lol, to use a hammer.

The more I think about it though, it I am cranking on a screw hard enough that it strips out, it probably it going to break off anyway. Perhaps I should spend my points on a decent tap and die set. The one I have now is from Harbor Freight... enough said.

I have that set of the diamond tipped screwdrivers and I think they're really good for the money. They were my favorite screwdrivers until I picked up the Wera laser-etch-tipped screwdrivers, which are in a different price category. But these Craftsman screwdrivers are still my favorite to travel with since they work well and I'm not as afraid of them walking off when people borrow them.

The impact drivers you also mentioned are actually made in Japan, rebranded Vessel screwdrivers, and seem to be great quality. Though I haven't yet had an opportunity to use them since I grabbed a set, the Vessel version reviewed pretty well by AvE, here:

You can't get this set online, because for whatever reason, sears has this as no longer available and only sells individually. Can't beat the price, beats the hell out of buying individually

Also got a $10 FREECASH coupon for use this weekend.

First Glance: Seems to be good quality, ratchets came greased, chrome is decent, engravings are rather deep very readable. Spun each drive with a socket attached didn't lock up. Push button is nice feature, although I prefer a sealed drive. Miles ahead of the standard RP.

Side Note: I do own Snap-on, Armstrong, Gearwrench, and the Older USA 84 tooth C-man ratchets, seems comparable quality. Will need to update if it skips a tooth in high torque applications though.

That's not how it works.

All motorcycle riders "back in the day" and all of us Ol' guys still have impact screwdrivers/drivers to work on our bikes.

That tap and impact will back out most screws that a normal screwdriver would just cam out and strip the head. Screwdriver head screws are seemingly designed to be torn up by a screwdriver.

There was an impact driver on sale just the other day on here and I went and checked mine to make sure I still had it, and I still have two of them it seems! You guys almost tricked me into buying a third!

But I have never seen any quite like this one you posted. Might work in places a regular impact driver wouldn't. Very intriguing.

On a motorcycle, you use the impact drivers to tighten down the screws as well to keep them from loosening up under vibration. Hand tighten and them give them a little tightening tap. You can get screws out that you wouldn't have a prayer getting out with a regular screwdriver because they are so rusted up. Invaluable tool.

I was curious so just looked. One is a nice set that is in a metal box with 10 bits made by a company called Veteran. Probably a JC Whitney deal. The other has no name, just says made in Japan. Funny how "Taiwan" and "made in Japan" used to be marks to hide from your friends... and look at us now...

Looks like all 5 of the wrench sets I linked to are made in China, sorry. But it looks like they are the high end of Chinese output, with very high reviews, comparing them favorably to the classic US-made quality. No complaints about sloppy fits that round corners.

All the screwdrivers with those handles have switched to Chinese production last year (and they still can't keep them in stock ), so they probably will be switching too if they haven't already.

I've never seen them on sale at Sears lower than their regular price, unless as part of one of the occasional 10% off all tools things.

I needed to use a $5 off $25 tools coupon that was expiring today, and I had enough points to almost cover the rest (had to pay about $0.50 OOP).

From reading reviews, they were originally US-made, then they were made in Japan for a while, but the current stock is made in Taiwan. They have changed the handle grip material. Hopefully still lives up to their excellent reputation.
