If you have a store close by, this might be worth a look....

My store had all of the floor models of Craftsman Wet/Dry Vacs on clearance yesterday. It looks like the new, downsized tool department won't have any out for display. They are just going to have a wall of boxes going forward.

I bought this beast for about $45:

http://www.sears.com/craftsman-xsp-...sellerId=SEARS&prdNo=7&blockNo=7&blockType=G7

They said it was missing accessories, but everything was in the bottom. My only issue is that it is way bigger than I wanted for a new vacuum.

Ever tried an impact screwdriver?

I just picked up the Craftsman impact set: http://www.sears.com/craftsman-2-pc...SellerId=Sears&prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

Often times, however, I'm working on something that isn't easy to reach with a hammer, or if it's something under a car (no lift), it's difficult, and dangerous, lol, to use a hammer.

The more I think about it though, it I am cranking on a screw hard enough that it strips out, it probably it going to break off anyway. Perhaps I should spend my points on a decent tap and die set. The one I have now is from Harbor Freight... enough said.

Half off and get $10 back, anyone have these diamond tipped screwdrivers? Are they worth the money?
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-extr...SellerId=Sears&prdNo=3&blockNo=3&blockType=G3

Any screwdriver that works better than regular screwdrivers to remove screws that have been through NE Ohio winters would be worth spending a few bucks.
I have that set of the diamond tipped screwdrivers and I think they're really good for the money. They were my favorite screwdrivers until I picked up the Wera laser-etch-tipped screwdrivers, which are in a different price category. But these Craftsman screwdrivers are still my favorite to travel with since they work well and I'm not as afraid of them walking off when people borrow them.

The impact drivers you also mentioned are actually made in Japan, rebranded Vessel screwdrivers, and seem to be great quality. Though I haven't yet had an opportunity to use them since I grabbed a set, the Vessel version reviewed pretty well by AvE, here:

Sears store Chesapeake, VA

Craftsman -- 44992 84 tooth "Next Generation" 3 piece ratchet set (made in Taiwan)

Price: 59.99 - (5 off 35 coupon) = Total: 58.29 w/tax

(a little less than $20 a ratchet)

You can't get this set online, because for whatever reason, sears has this as no longer available and only sells individually. Can't beat the price, beats the hell out of buying individually

Also got a $10 FREECASH coupon for use this weekend.

First Glance: Seems to be good quality, ratchets came greased, chrome is decent, engravings are rather deep very readable. Spun each drive with a socket attached didn't lock up. Push button is nice feature, although I prefer a sealed drive. Miles ahead of the standard RP.

Side Note: I do own Snap-on, Armstrong, Gearwrench, and the Older USA 84 tooth C-man ratchets, seems comparable quality. Will need to update if it skips a tooth in high torque applications though.

YMMV

That's not how it works.

All motorcycle riders "back in the day" and all of us Ol' guys still have impact screwdrivers/drivers to work on our bikes.

That tap and impact will back out most screws that a normal screwdriver would just cam out and strip the head. Screwdriver head screws are seemingly designed to be torn up by a screwdriver.

There was an impact driver on sale just the other day on here and I went and checked mine to make sure I still had it, and I still have two of them it seems! You guys almost tricked me into buying a third!

But I have never seen any quite like this one you posted. Might work in places a regular impact driver wouldn't. Very intriguing.

On a motorcycle, you use the impact drivers to tighten down the screws as well to keep them from loosening up under vibration. Hand tighten and them give them a little tightening tap. You can get screws out that you wouldn't have a prayer getting out with a regular screwdriver because they are so rusted up. Invaluable tool.

Thanks for the post. Here's the product page link for reference/reviews:
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-3-pc-thin-profile-ratchet-set/p-00944992000P

There's also a few of them on the Outlet site if anyone's in the right areas: https://www.searsoutlet.com/Craftsm...t/d/product_details.jsp?pid=22101&mode=seeAll

PS: Regarding your coupon, there's also a report at SD of someone getting a $6 bounceback coupon from a randomly-lucky in-store purchase at Kmart today. Seems like they're making this an every-weekend thing now, in one form or another, instead of just a holiday-weekend thing.

I'm guessing you have the old Craftsman set with interchangeable bits? You probably don't need this Japanese set if you already have that, but it is a very nice product. Edit: Oh, here's an excuse to buy it: fits into tighter spaces than the old set.

The cross-point/JIS/Phillips version is available individually under the Vessel brand from Amazon (with excellent reviews), but I couldn't find a Vessel-branded straight/slotted impact screwdriver there.

I was curious so just looked. One is a nice set that is in a metal box with 10 bits made by a company called Veteran. Probably a JC Whitney deal. The other has no name, just says made in Japan. Funny how "Taiwan" and "made in Japan" used to be marks to hide from your friends... and look at us now...

This may help you reach the $25 mark for free shipping with something else, or there's also a ship-to-store option to purchase it alone.

FYI. I dunno when they added this, but I just realize I have "You have $5 to use on Sears (When you spend $10.00 or more on qualifying items) IN-STORE ONLY!" expires March 13.

Very good deal, but of course there is no Sears close by. I wish I can give this to someone...

I think I read that the $40 in points from a $40 Overstock.com order would be awarded 7 days after the order...

I quoted the 7 days part in the other thread, but I'm not sure if this offer has even been available for a week yet.

I think I saw mine on Tuesday after placing an online. Didn't find anyone mentioning it here or on Slickdeals, so figured it was a rare freecash offer.

More details from SD about this weekend's bounceback coupon format:

" Just left sears...
Used $6/$6 freecash & $4 points...
Bought some tshirts...nothing out of the pockets
And cashier printed out $10 freecash...
But interesting part is this time showing
3/12-3/17 and 3/19-3/25
...
By the way...this one has barcode...
Good in store and online "

My theory about why the dates you can use it on skips Sun Mar 18 is they might be doing a 'Friends & Family' 1-day sale that day. That kind of sale means an extra 10% off anything in the store, but it's applied to your purchase as a coupon equivalent, which would make the bounceback coupon unusable on that day anyway.

These were down to like $4.50 the other week... But if you are picky (like me) I would check in store as most now are Chinese but there might be some USA stock still around if you can look through them.

My Hometown still has a few of these with the acetate handles and those are USA made. I don't know if they will eventually be chinese too or not...

Looks like all 5 of the wrench sets I linked to are made in China, sorry. But it looks like they are the high end of Chinese output, with very high reviews, comparing them favorably to the classic US-made quality. No complaints about sloppy fits that round corners. :)

All the screwdrivers with those handles have switched to Chinese production last year (and they still can't keep them in stock  ), so they probably will be switching too if they haven't already.

Craftsman Extreme Grip 2 Pc. Locking Adjustable Wrench Set - 8" & 10"
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-extreme-grip-2pc-locking-adjustable-wrench-set/p-00942362000P
'regularly' $59.99 (commonly on sale for $29.99), now on sale for $26.99 (55% off)

I've been unsure about whether I want those, debating for months. Most reviewers are happy with them, but some find the locking mechanism on the handle gets in the way of grip/leverage, some complain of too-loose tolerances, and some find the design prone to finger-pinching (I've managed to pinch my fingers in things as innocuous as scissor handles a few times, so I'm especially nervous about that  - a reviewer explains here why it's notably worse about that than locking pliers with similar mechanisms). What I really want instead are Knipex Pliers Wrenches, but those are too pricey for me so far.

for like $10 I'd gamble but not $26

So these are Chinese as well?

Guess the USA made ones are long gone.

I have them in Metric USA made and never bothered to get the SAE USA Pro's

I made an in-store purchase tonight and did receive a $10 bounceback coupon this time (with the little blue card to go with it)! Valid 3/12-3/17 and 3/19-3/25, as expected.

After looking through all the items on sale earlier this afternoon, I ended up deciding to get something that wasn't on sale instead.

Greenlee Cable Cutter
http://www.sears.com/greenlee-cable-cutter-with-dipped-grip/p-00913375000P
$25.99 regular price at Sears, but I think that's lower than the actual MSRP; they are $30+ on Amazon.

I've never seen them on sale at Sears lower than their regular price, unless as part of one of the occasional 10% off all tools things.

I needed to use a $5 off $25 tools coupon that was expiring today, and I had enough points to almost cover the rest (had to pay about $0.50 OOP).

From reading reviews, they were originally US-made, then they were made in Japan for a while, but the current stock is made in Taiwan. They have changed the handle grip material. Hopefully still lives up to their excellent reputation.

When I was at the store tonight, the cashier told me he's heard they're starting another cashback on tools deal tomorrow (Sun Mar 11). Buy $80+ OOP to get $40 back in points. Since he knew about this one, perhaps it will be valid in-store this time instead of online-only.

Update: This did not end up being quite accurate, but close. It's $100 OOP for $50 back in-store instead.

Update 2: It actually is accurate, the amounts on this offer are different at different stores! https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7081515&postcount=6927

Before anyone complains that they didn't get the cashback in points from the Sears.com Hello Spring offer, please note you may have to wait at least 24 hrs.

"Points are credited to account 1 day after order is placed."
