Yeah, I've only got a few months left now (and only 1-2 weeks of ship-to-store), unless free home shipping with low OOP continues for non-VIPs.
I had been keeping notes of what I'd bought the last couple years in a basic list, now I'm in the process of finally putting everything (including the earlier purchases) into a spreadsheet so I can figure out a grand total when this comes to an end for me. It's a hassle because the order history pages are so screwy.
I had a spreadsheet a while back but gave it up. Between my wife and my account, would be nice to know how much we saved, but I know we saved a lot.
I mostly paid using points, except my tool box and very few things that I use OOP because I did not have enough points at time of purchase. On the other side, I have sold a few things on CL so at the end, it probably came about even. I bought three small CF boxes that I flipped on CL and iirc the proceed is about even to pay for my 56in top box. I still have a few things that I need to put on CL.
From fixing my cars, the various socket size, extensions, wrenches, screwdrivers, impact drivers, and other tools, I have saved a lot of time and have made a lot of things easier for me.
My household tools (drill, drill bits, hammer, measuring tape, squares, hand saw, etc) are paid from points. In fact I am currently fixing/remodeling my yard using a mattock, three different shovel for three of us who are working, rakes, gloves, hand gardening tools, etc all from Sears.
My fav tools are probably the 15 Knipex pliers in different size and shape, including plier wrench, cobra, alligator, cutter.
When Kmart was still open locally, I had bought a lot of non-tools: clothes for my kid (socks, underwear, tshirts, blankets, towels, hat, gloves), toys, paper towels, tissues, lawn chairs etc which really helps our budget. Overall, I probably spent more on household items than tools. Even when I am on vacation, if we pass a Sears or Kmart, I would order ahead of time to pick-up some household items. Wife is not too happy if I only making stops for tools haha
Lately, it was truly getting harder to find anything that I do not already have or need. All of these would all add up easily in thousands $ if paid with OOP. Kinda sad to see this all come to an end, but also somewhat happy I am not spending time playing SYW games again.
Also, big thank you for everyone's post. I read a lot of post in GJ, but believe I learn the most from this thread. Really appreciate everyone is sharing the knowledge, what tools are a good buy at certain price, what are useful and worth buying.
The amount I’ve gotten since SYW was invented is absolutely insane. I don’t really resell things though. My garage looks like I robbed Sears. Nearly everything I own is from there. If it was available at Sears that’s probably where it came from. Thankfully much of the stuff I got will be enough to last a lifetime because things will likely never be as cheap again.
Yes my garage is full too lmao I would have more tools if I did not spend my points on household items (see above).
