I haven't heard back from the wheel guy yet but if he responds I will probably go pick up those style 197s this weekend. I did get my black grills installed which really cleaned up the front end. I always hated the chrome part on the hood, they always reminded me of lips for some reason.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I also plugged up my new bluetooth set up. I had one similar that I would have to charge every so often and reconnect every time I got in the car, this one doesn't need to charge and connects automatically. Don't mind my "borrowed" usb adapter from work, we give them out with big orders so I just grab one when I need one. Haha. I need to swap out the cig receptacle for a usb one.

Well I went Saturday to look at that "perfect" set of style 197's. They were trashed.. All 4 wheels were curbed and scratched badly, the "new tires" were bald except for one, and one had a giant "repaired" crack that looked a lot like the Chernobyl elephant foot. When I told the seller I wasn't interested, he told me I wasted his time...... I'm done with Craigslist.

On a side note, the J10 sold this weekend. It was kinda sad but it went to a good home.

I was hoping to spend Sunday cleaning up and installing the new wheels, installing my spacers and snapping some pics. Since the wheels were garbage and I didnt buy them I did most of that. I think the 15mm rear spacers will hold me over a while. I am likely going to buy brand new after market wheels, but for now this looks good.

Im not some tin foil weirdo that photoshop's license plates out, it just still has the ugly temp tag.

Nick, "Perfect" in the Craigslist world is different from the real world. A wheel that is still round is considered perfect in that world. "Like New" means only sparks a little when you plug it in. "Rare" means it's the only one the seller has.

I've only used CL once and the people who showed up at my house made me uncomfortable. Probably didn't need to sit on the porch all night with a gun in my lap but Florida has a "made me uncomfortable" defense for homicide.

Got some work done on the e9. We had some parts on order that finally came in. We buttoned up the exhaust, driveshaft, and shifter and put it back on its wheels.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

It sat there for about 15 minutes before the interior started coming out. The seats look pretty good, not sure if we are going to redye them or just clean them for now.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I also paid way too much for these AC hardlines, but I had to have them.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Anyway, back to the interior. We pulled the door cards and removed some of the wood trim.

It looks like I am going to learn how to lay a veneer. We may change the color and grain, so we have some samples coming.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

We also sent the power steering pump out to be rebuild. At the price it was a bargain. It looks like its ready to ship back to us.

So as of now, we are waiting on the pump and veneer samples. We also need to pick a carpet color and order that kit while the interior is out and then start putting it all back together.

Not a huge update but we finished pulling the door cards, thankfully the doors weren't full of rust.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

We also got the rest of the interior out, as you can see the carpet is not saveable. Again, I was happy to not see the shop floor while in the car. One of the writers for Bmw Roundel magazine Rob Siegel just did a big write up where to look for rust on these cars, one of the best quotes in the article is. "they will start oxidizing if you even think a moist thought within 20 feet of them." I have been happy with the little rust we have found.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Then, out came the back seats which are in amazing shape.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I am probably going to go over Sunday and bring the seats over to my garage to start cleaning them. I may do a little youtube video of the process, and if it takes off start shooting video of other projects.

Nice. Ive always cleaned with a leather cleaner like lexol, but I hate their conditioner, always leaves everything sticky and nasty. Preferred method is clean, possibly even steam clean if you have a small one, it opens up the pores of the leather more, wipe away the years of dirt. Condition with Zymol or Meguires, and I just use my hands. Using a towel just absorbs more of the moisturizer. Slather it on, wrap in a black plastic bag, and leave out on hot concrete in direct sunlight for a few hours. The heat helps the leather pull in all the moisture it can. Then spritz with some water and wipe off the remaining film. Good luck!

I plan on using steam, nuvite leather condition and Gyeon leather coat.

My dad started pulling the veneer off the wood. Which is a little nerve wracking since its NLA and people are charging several thousands of dollars to refurb it. More on that later.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I also washed the wagon last night. While I was washing it, I pulled the front license plate mount off. There are some holes left behind but after compound, polish, and some touch up paint it looks acceptable. I still need to either have this bumper repaired or replace it with a Mtech or performance bumper.

Since it's not my wallet that's gonna suffer, I'd say go with the Mtech bumper, for sure :lol_hitti

Granted, mine also had the Mtech front lip in addition to the bumper. I just think it’s the cleanest look, outside of the M3 bumper.

Didn't get a ton done this weekend, I pretty much spent the weekend at my friends lake house. I did get some new screws for my license plate. I wasn't happy with the small factory bmw screws and big washers so I picked up some countersunk screws and washers.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I was also able to secure the bottom of the plate with these screws, and then slide the plate frame over. The plate doesnt flop around and its a clean set up.

by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I took care of that Friday afternoon and then headed out to the lake. I spent Saturday drinking beer and floating.... It was nice. When I got back in town Sunday I went over to my parents house to pick up Hof. He went on his first wagon ride. I think he liked it.

This must be what its like to be a cop.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I spend the rest of the day Sunday washing the road trip off the wagon and cleaning the garage. My driveway looks awesome with all the cars out of the garage.

My wife had some friends over last night to watch the Bachelorette so I retreated to the garage. Since I had some free time, I cleaned up a little. Folded all the towels I have avoided folding, and caught up on some youtube.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I also ordered some new bucket labels, and since I got new labels I grabbed some new buckets. I think harbor freight is discontinuing the white buckets that I like so much. These were hidden in the back corner of the store and I got the last three. I pealed off the safety stickers and applied my new motorsport themed labels.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

My wife has more friends coming over for wine night tonight, so I might go grab the E9 seats and start cleaning them. I am thinking about starting to film some of the detailing stuff I do, does anyone have any advice?

So I picked up the passenger seat from the e9 last night and brought it home. It fit nicely in the wagon.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

It needed a good cleaning badly.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I used a mixture of steam and leather cleaner with a horse hair brush. The steam pulled up a lot of gunk on its own.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

After the steam I went over it with leather cleaner.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

After I finished the seat, I continued the same process on the head rest. Before.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

After.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Once the seat and the head rest dried out a little I gave them both a thick coat of conditioner.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

And the finished product. It was still soaking up conditioner in this pic but after buffing with a microfiber it now has a less glossy finish.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

It didn't come out perfect but I love the patina on it.. its like an old baseball glove.

Very nice! Love your stable of Beemer's. Dad drove an early 320i which was a cool late 70's ride after a stable of Audi's before anyone thought of Audi's and BMW's as status symbols. I currently drive a Mini Clubman ALL4 S (nee X1/2) with various mods, including Dinan's tune box. Always wanted an 2002 for a project car...may get there yet.

I would love to get a play by play of your detailing products and routine. Do you frequent any detailing forums?

Good ideas everyone. I plan on giving the wagon a full detail the first weekend of August. I will try to film that.

I have been a little busy lately, I am in the process of prepping for EAA Airventure at work. That puts me on the road for 14 days, and I leave next week. This show pretty much stresses me out so much that I just want to relax and drink beer when I get home. I did however drag myself down stairs last night and I put my old Vaders back together. The basement really needs some love, its getting way too cluttered and our antique business has taken it over. I need to get rid of some stuff.

I have listed them for sale. Speaking of the basement clutter, I am 90% sure that I am selling the 74 2002 project. More on that soon.

There are a lot of detailing videos out already. I would not bother doing that unless you're showing things that aren't already shown, otherwise it seems like a wasted effort.

I respectfully disagree. Yes, there are tons of detailing videos, but many are not worth the watch. It's all about the presentation and the detailer. I love watching Matt from Obsessed Garage and to a lesser extent, Larry from Ammo NYC. Because THEY make me want to watch, not necessarily what they are doing. I enjoy the way they get their message across, their attitudes, their knowledge, etc. Other guys who do good work just don't present as well.

I say go for it, dude!

But what could he show that AMMO hasn't covered already? My point is there are a TON of detailing channels on youtube, and they do that as a full time gig. Their knowledge is probably far above anybody else on this forum, so what could MPower bring to the table that hasn't already been covered? Seems like it would be redundant information, with crappier production quality. Go for it if you want, I just don't see the point.

I don't think I would do detailing only content. It would mostly cover the projects I do on the cars. There isn't a lot of vintage Bmw coverage, and especially e9 stuff. I could always make a video and if it ***** it *****. Forums just seem to be dying, everything is going to youtube.

YouTube and Facebook groups. One of the very few reasons I still use Facebook, actually. That, and Marketplace.

E9 content would be cool! You're right, that is definitely missing. I'd focus on that. My most recent video was doing the head and an RS2 upgrade on my S6, and that video took off, over 10k views in a few months. I think it was just because the car is sort of rare, if I had done a detailing video on it I don't think anybody would care.

Facebook is horrible for archiving information. People asking the same questions over and over, wanting to be spoon fed information, and no ability to search for answers to questions that people have already solved. I'm glad forums are still active for all the cars I'm involved in.

I also go to a lot of shows, mostly Bmw and euro specific. One of the best parts of forums back in the day was the show coverage. I used to rush home to edit photos and get them in posted in that show's thread. Now I check youtube for coverage. I don't know, Im honestly really busy and probably wont get around to it but I have wanted to get into video editing for a while.
