I would have been more concerned about how good they were with the cutout tool and damaging an outlet or wiring.
When I was installing the wires I did my best to keep the wires in the back of the boxes and routed them more toward the middle of any studs. This would have prevented most accidental nicks situation from the wondering router/zip bit as long as the bits weren’t longer the 2”.

But these guys pre measured the holes location and would cut them first and then trim the boards to fit once against the outlets. Now that I think about it, I don’t recall seeing a zip tool or router that some guys use to cut around outlets.

Got a call from my concrete guy on Monday, asking if he can pour the bunker floor. I wasn’t going to say no!

So they showed up today and got it poured and finished. It’s still green, so I didn’t stand on it. Being cold weather it’s going to take a little more time to cure then if it was summer time.

Probably do the saw cut on Saturday unless it can be done sooner.

Bunker is looking good! The height also worked out just right.

I clear the beams when walking across the bunker.
IMG_9613.jpeg

I got the first coat of white paint on the ceiling, I will go back and get a second coat on it before I install the lights. With the daylight saving coming, I’d like to get the lights in so I can paint the walls with good lights.
IMG_9616.jpegIMG_9617.jpeg

Hopefully I can get the second coat on either tomorrow after work of Saturday. Then I could install the light fixtures on Sunday. I have a trip coming up soon so we will see how far I get before I leave.

Everything is looking great. I’m guessing you’re going to treat the bunker concrete with same treatment as upper garage floor?

Be careful not to get new boots with thicker heels than your crocs or you’ll be bump your noggin in the bunker!!
Yep, I’ll be treating the bunker to a coat of 4500 and two coats of 8510. Have to give the bunker some time to cure and then I’ll have to heat the bunker as it’s winter right now.

Good grief I don’t check in for a little while and the garage is looking ready for a break in BBQ already !!

It’s all looking really nice. The drywall looks great !!

That bunker is a really neat deal. Having it for storage and as an air compressor hideout will be really nice.
Thanks!

Would you know it, I was planning to cook Discada for the first get together too!

I'm looking forward to making a cool door for the bunker, been thinking of something thick rustic with black wrought hardware.

Be sure to check back after weekend and I might have lights in the garage for the first time!

Some days this is me….

I count to Four

I kept thinking I was putting in 12 lights, but instead I was putting 16 lights in. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

I got another coat of white on the ceiling last night and so today I installed the lights.

Using a laser level I was able to get the lights installed in a straight line.

IMG_9633.jpeg
The left 4 will be on their own switch.
IMG_9634.jpeg

I got more light fixtures and bulbs on order. No clue why I kept thinking 12 and not 16.

Here are the saw cut expansions joints. Pretty good results with a circular saw and a diamond blade.
IMG_9635.jpeg
IMG_9636.jpeg
IMG_9637.jpeg

Also I’m testing some gray shades for the wall.
The left gray is called moondance, but it seems too light. The right gray is called tornado but I’m thinking it’s too dark.
IMG_9640.jpeg
The left one looks like drywall board color.

I don’t know, still undecided on the wall color. Would be cool to get the walls painted this week. But I need to decide on the color.

The other lights should be in Thursday, so we will see if I get them installed in time.

@drivesitfar I’m hoping I don’t clutter the garage. I’d like to keep it clear with tools and equipment along the walls at the most. But then again, I need to do some purging and clear organizing to ensure everything has a home and a purpose.

I went over to the garage to do a few things and also see what the color looks like when it was completely dried.

It’s pretty bright in there, even with the missing 4 lights in the back.
IMG_9644.jpeg
IMG_9645.jpeg

I also had painted the light gray against the white and looking at it when dried, it seems to be a decent light gray.
IMG_9647.jpeg
I’ll sleep on it.

You’re going to be $$$ ahead of me cuz you did the paint yourself. I think you owe me a beer! Looks great and you still have all the loot!
Thanks! I’m sure I’m saving money by painting the garage myself. I never got the quote cause I talked myself into painting it before the painter got a chance to give me one. But I’m still curious to know what I did really save.

A quick question about your garage floor. After you caulked the control joints how long did you let the SikaFlex cure before you trimmed it flush. My test section and the bathroom doorway area I trimmed a couple days after and I got shrinkage downward. But in one area of the original test there was about 3” still proud of the floor that I hit with 60 grit sandpaper with my D/A sander and it sanded perfectly flush with the floor. Out in the actual shop/garage area shrinkage doesn’t really concern me as it’s a shop! But in the interior rooms where I’m epoxy coating the floor after I caulk all the joints I’d really like the joints to not be visable. Do you have enough backer rod left to do the Bunker?

I didn’t check but I don’t remember it shrinking down much if it did.

According to my photos, I waited 2 days before I sliced the sealer. If I get a chance to go over there tomorrow I’ll try to remember to check if it dropped anywhere. I know it did drop in a couple of spots like there was a leak around the backer rod. One spot I know I spliced two backer rod in that area due to it broke right there and so I stuffed the other end of the backer rod on top of it. For me, I only had to do one course of backer rod before sealing the joint. Also, I was forcing the sealant down as much as I could when I was pumping it in the joint.

I still got plenty of backer rod, I might have enough to do the driveway when the time comes!

I thought I had the color figured out, took a sample to the paint store had it made up, got to the garage and it was way darker then I wanted!

I will end up having to mix 2 gallon of the gray I got made to one gallon of white to get the shade of gray I wanted. Was a little frustrating when I gave them a color sample to match and it was way off. Even the sample didn’t match to the paint on the wall as the sample was lighter.

The far right gray is what I was aiming for, just enough gray that I like it, but still light enough that I think it will look good.
IMG_9653.jpeg

I know, white is the ideal color, but I’ve been in white garages and dark garages and I just didn’t want to be in a garage that’s extreme to either end. So this hits that close to white but gives me some color result I was looking for. Now to get a gallon bucket so I can measure the paint as I mix them in clean 5 gallon buckets.

First step was to mix the paint, took 4 buckets to mix all of the paint to get the right shade of gray.
IMG_9665.jpeg

Then once I got all of the paint stuff cleaned up and lids on the three buckets of paint, it was time to get started on painting the walls.
Before.
IMG_9666.jpeg

And after.

IMG_9674.jpeg

Took about 3 hours to get the first coat of paint on the walls. I’ll get another coat of paint on it maybe tomorrow and then it’s up to my wife to cut all of the corners and finish painting the door trim and baseboards as she does the brush work better then me.

Got the second coat on the wall. Looks more solid now. Not sure when the trim and edge will get done, but we will see. I’ll probably get the other 4 lights installed Thursday and also work on getting the outlets and switches covered.

Here’s the walls with their second coat of paint.

Speaking of stuff is it in a storage unit, container you had moved to your property or at your other place? I think I recall you haven’t moved back in your old place fully yet so maybe still have your old garage usable and it needs to be packed and moved.

Moving is never fun hence us living here almost 40 years now but I’ve moved out of my shop and storage units with a ton of my stuff that still needs to be fully organized.

Paint looks great!!

Luckily, we are still living at our other place, so I still have the 32x62 garage to keep everything in it. I keep telling my wife that she needs to start working on downsizing her stuff. I've slowly been going through my stuff and tossing stuff and selling what I can. We are only 1.8 miles from current house to this house so it's not a far move. Also, we don't have to move kitchen appliances as both homes has their own appliances when we moved. Well, the washer and dryer will be moved, but everything else like fridge, and stove stays at their respective place unless buyer wants them gone. So, it will be mostly furniture and personal items we will be moving.

Even though it isn’t far to move it might have a few tense moments so best of luck.

Did you draw out a plan for your stuff in new garage or maybe you can just move an already great set up like it is?

You’ve come a long way quickly and quality seems top notch.

Rough plans in my head. I can’t slow down enough to draw it out just yet. Also, budget says I need some deals in storage items to pop up on Facebook so it’s a wait and see what I can get to create the layout with.

But I hope to spend some time in the current garage to purge and reduce what I have and then see what I’m left with to determine just what do I need for storage.

Garage is looking great, I really like that gray you came up with, nice contrast in the garage!
Thanks! I will say with the brown cardboard against the wall, it kind of makes me think a nice dark wood bench top would look great in this garage! Just need to put a place of a 1/4” sheet of metal somewhere for hammering needs.

The garage looks amazing! I could live in the garage. lol.

Does the house have a garage (other than the detached garage that you just built)?
Thanks! My wife’s friends tells her I won’t be leaving the garage anytime soon. Not to say I will be sleeping in there, but I’m sure I’ll be spending a lot of time in there.

Yep, the house does have an attached garage, I started a thread on it a long time ago. At the time I just met my wife, moved in with her and was just doing cheap budget stuff to organize it.

When we move back, I’ll be gutting it and redoing a bunch of stuff in there. The front area will be mostly wood related tools and house tools. This will also be where my wife will be parking her car.

Unfortunately the house needs a bunch of repairs and updates, so I will be constantly working on the house when we move back and the attached garage is one of the room to get some work done.
