I'm not here to start an argument or debate over what's better than the other, cheaper what last longer or what's easier to put up. I'm just throwing this out for the public record.. . . . no more PVC airlines in my shop.

It's gone, all of it is down and cut up.

Those of you that have been following my refurb thread already know this but I finished taking all of it out a short time ago.

Not knowing any of the background to why it would be an argument or debate, but can I buy that from you? I've been wanting to run lines to my compressor for a while.

When I move my compressor to my new shop, I am going to tear my old PVC system out. Just curious, could you tell the pipe had gotten hard or brittle?

How long was it in your shop?

We've been here 12 1/2 years, so I've had the compressor probably 10 years, give or take a year. It leaked a few times at joints which I had to cut apart and replace. I also knew I had a small leak (discolored PVC) at a 90 fitting that I never fixed and I found another as I tore it out. I've covered/gotten rid of all the windows so there was virtually no UV (sunlight) hitting it and I only pressurized the system when I was using it.

I couldn't tell if it was brittle or had gotten hard. I just knew it was time for it to go.

Did you install the system? I have glued miles of this stuff together with no leaks(all high pressure buried were a pinhole leaks will show up quick). I find it interesting that you had leaks .

Yes, I put it together.

EDIT: I went out, found the pieces in question and snapped a picture.

Notice the "V" pattern.

Glad you got rid of the pipe bomb on the wall. I am still not sure if I am going with copper or black iron. It ***** using a rubber hose, I get sooo much moisture since it doesn't have a good chance to condense.

While I am in the anti PVC airline crowd, the pics show the value of using primer on PVC, since there does not seem to be any signs of primer being used.

Cant believe it, I thought you were smarter than that. :dunno: BUT HEY... now that the **** is gone, I suggest Copper. Easy to work with, looks good, but it's $$$$. If you go with black iron, I believe you can get it sealed or painted inside the pipe.

Not sure if you tried to quote bdamico or not, and not sure if you simply don't know, or what, but try reading all of the links below, and get back with us if you still don't know.....................

Charles, that poster is a spammer, you might want to edit your post to delete your quote of him.

I've confessed before about it. I did it before I was a member of GJ, before I knew more information about it and when several people around here were doing the same thing. Honestly, I was ignorant on the subject.

If some of those pipes are still about 3' in length, they could be bundled together and used to store threaded rod, dowels, etc.. Shorter pieces could be used for files and drill bits.. Glue a cluster of them to a small board for a redneck pencil holder. Cap the ends, leaving one end loose, and they can be used in a tool box to protect taps..

Thanks but I think I just want this stuff gone and be done with it.
Throw it up on the classifieds as a shop air line "kit" :lol_hitti

If I accepted Visa/MC, I'm sure somebody would buy it. :lol_hitti

Whew, you dodged a bullet. I have learned from my two years on GJ that using PVC for compressed air is like having a hungry, rabid and ***** honey-badger trapped in your pants. You may be safe for a few minutes, but eventually, you WILL die. :lol_hitti

Got any pics of the new stuff?
