Nice stuff, which wrench set did you pick up?

Thats the 8-19mm ratcheting wrench set with socket adapters. 163-186/16.

The few wrenches to the right of that is the flare set. 612 N/4. Didnt need more flare wrenches but i wanted to give these a try as i liked the way they form the open ends to sit on the flare nut so you cant slide too far.

I have a problem: my electric china made beard trimmer/hair cutter is emitting smoke signals every now and then. Since I do not understand Chinese this is of no use to me regarding diagnosing the problem. On top of that it is so dull; using a hammer and anvil to trim my beard would be just as quick and probably less painful.

So I am in the market for heavy duty beard trimmer/hair cutte. Something suitable for horses, barb wire e.t.c would do... I guess. :willy_nil

Suggestions?

have the same problem....minus the smoke though....but they either stop working (battery operated) or lose power over the years. I think i have my 3rd or 4th hair cutter now and the motor gets weaker and weaker. There are many brands like Tondeo, Jaguar, Moser, Panasonic, Wahl, Remington, Babybliss, Ermila and Aesculap. My personal favourite so far are the Oster machines because they look so old :) and not like the designer hobby products. btw. made in USA www.osterstyle.com

As promised some close-ups.

This is suppose to be a windshield sprayer nozzle cleaner but the needle [under the right cap] is huge so im guessing this probably wont work on most vehicles such as those with the tiny brass ball inside the housing. Knowing that i got the combination tool [they sell a version thats just a cleaner and this one] so its also a telescoping magnetic pick-up tool with a fairly bright LED lamp at the end. I like this feature quite a bit and the magnet is very powerful. It will lift a larger 1/4" ratchet no problem. The light turns on and off by simply extending or retracting the tool. One benefit this style has over others is the light isnt a hole through the bottom of the magnet which constantly gets blocked by rust/metal debris. Price $19.00 US. Part number 4850-2.

Not much to explain here, simple parts bowl with a magnet on the bottom. These were cheap (i purchased 2) and im a sucker for this stuff so i threw them in. I like the way they formed the bowl as opposed to the standard metal style which is a bit shallow. Its also become hard to find the standard style with a "hood" so it can be used at vertical angles, not a problem with these. Price $7.00 US Part number 197-3.

Next up Hazet flare wrenches. They sell multiple styles but these are the ones meant for pipe/line fittings. As i mentioned previously you can see how they modified the design from the traditional flare wrench so that its impossible to slide the wrench through the flare fitting. I'll be interested to see how well these work. The only downside is these are all the sizes they make in this style. Price $145.00 US for all. Set number 612N/4 though they do sell them individually if you only encounter a couple sizes.

Again not much to explain here. Essentially its a rubber tipped dead blow (the head/handle is metal with the upper portion filled with sand). I like no mar hammers for tapping on stuff so i thought i'd give these a try. I like it and i'll probably pick-up a smaller size as well (they sell 4-5 different sizes). I dont expect to wear through heads too fast but i did want a spare set as opposed to having to get some shipped from Germany when that time comes so i added the spare set in. Hammer price $52.00 part number 1953-50, extra faces $22.00 part number 1953-050.

to be continued

yes its my first ratcheting screwdriver sofar but I like it sofar :)

yes it cost me nothing - I was talking about GJ and that all those americans mostly use 3/8 and alot are snap on fanboys :D. He just grabbed in one of his drawers and gave me that 3/8 710d ratchet only saying that 3/8 is nothing for him and that he would only destroy it :D. Ill post some better pix when I get my proper camera back.

SO ist just so expensive and hard to get here and you have alot of other high quality brand that are cheaper so snap on is not on my list.

bahco superior handle is also available for lefthanded people

8-19mm Ratcheting Wrench set + 3 socket adapters. This is my intro to Hazet wrenches and i must say i like them a lot. Despite the look the texture is actually "soft". I'll absolutely be giving their basic combos a try. Note these are not "servicable" like the Gedore ratcheting wrenches (which really can only be lubricated) but honestly i've never had a ratcheting wrench fail on me yet, from GW to Snap-On, so i dont expect these to be any different. Price $280.00US. Set number 163-186/16. Note, for some reason this set was actually cheaper than just the wrenches sold in a plastic tray.

Oil Filter Wrench. Im on a quest to find a perfect one for small filters and this was next up. It was very expensive compared to Lisle brand ones but if it works, it will be worth it. I like the design, the nut on the back can be used in combination with a socket or wrench or the nut can be pulled free revealing a female drive end for a breaker or ratchet. Its also reversible. Cost $80.00 US, part number 2172.

Again self explanatory, just a small pair of side cutters. Hazet calls this particular cutting end "Swedish style". Well formed and they feel very comfy. $24.00 US Part 1803M-11.

Bent needle nose "snipe" plier. Same as the side cutters well formed and comfortable. $31.00 US Part 1841M B-33.

Last but not least, Hazet isnt really well known for its ratchets but their newest developments are these round head fine tooth models with the reverse levers recessed into the head. Very smooth action. Decided to pick-up a 1/4". They also have a 1/2" model available and will have a 3/8" model coming toward the end of the year. Due to the size of the head its not really great as far as being super compact but its a really nice ratchet none the less especially when working with low torque fasteners you really dont want to break due to being about the length of a finger. Price $46.00 US Part number 863-1.

It a same situation in Malaysia or even Asia..we all commonly used a ball peen hammer..It very odd or special here if you used a Germany type Engineer Hammer.

Its nice stuff. Expensive, but nice. Mostly i just hate paying high shipping fees (especially if i plan on being a repeat buyer) so i do bulk orders whenever possible. Good eye on the bottle opener, Jens threw that in.

I like your blue background no part no. + prices or it for free :D

Ah yes, the "background" is the fender cover i purchased, that was around $50.00, number 196-1. I also didnt snap pictures of the black drain pan but that is part number 197-1 and was about $13.00 (and surprisingly made in Germany).

I'm busy looking at getting a spider oil filter wrench. Most probably a Hazet one. Then today I saw that the one offered by Gedore looks very similar. Specially the body and legs. The nut on top and the pins however differ. Anybody knows who makes these? Seems like the same thing to me.

Re: Hardware Cologne visit on sunday the 4th of March

Hi,

monte kindly agreed to post the following pics and comments over the next days in this thread as I didn't want to start my own, as I visited 'old world' booths only.
All pictures are my own, so no double posts, if the topic had been mentioned before I try to reference for fairness as long as I was able to trace the resp. post or thread.

Here we go:

DOLEX France (http://www.dolex.fr/en/)

Been discussed here under: (http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123819)
as well as under post # 2213 here in this thread.

Picture showing an adjustable bench vise series 80 with pipe jaws and swivel base.
It is a cut-out display of course, with a set of interchangeable protective yaws in front of it.
To me, seeing a DOLEX vise 1st time in real, it appeared to be a forget quality piece of equipment, I'd be proud to own.
It rivals the best German brands like HEUER, Peddinghaus and Leinen.

still HARDWARE COLOGNE:

FELO

new bit ratchet sets shown here in this thread before under post # 10615

Pictures showing FELOs nicely done heritage display and 2 pics of their new line of ratchet and bit ratches sets in high quality boxes.
The yellow inserts would definitely qualify as dirt and grease magnets - my only critical point here.

Yeah battery power seems to be the new trend not only among tools but also hair clippers :) Panasonic clippers with battery seems to be common as well as "Sanshin" and "Moser" brand

Your Stahlwille dealer should be able to order VBW pliers, since VBW belongs to Stahlwille

The WERA JOKER are made in Czech Repl. Pics:

Thanks for these exclusive pics !!! Already available in spain but not germany :( :)

Well well I bought one Ironside screwdriver and it seems to be very nice, feels great in hand! I paid 9,50€.

Looks good !!

I'm busy looking at getting a spider oil filter wrench. Most probably a Hazet one. Then today I saw that the one offered by Gedore looks very similar. Specially the body and legs. The nut on top and the pins however differ. Anybody knows who makes these? Seems like the same thing to me.

the HZ one is made in Germany, don´t know about the Gedore one ? Looks like it has a glossy finish ?

Just got back from the cologne tool show, didn't have too much free time but took as many pics as I could, you can see them here http://www.german-hand-tools.com/miscellaneous-tools.html

Thanks a lot for the pics !!! Very nice !!!!! Didn´t know that power tools were on display too (Suhner) !?!? Nice looking new NWS VDE pliers !!! The new chrome plated version looks good too !
Lots of good stuff there ! (Witte ratchdrive, Wiha bit holders, Gedore box ratchet wrenches, Gedore mini bolt cutters and how cool are the pipe wrenches with the 2K handles !!!!!! sweeeeet !!!! Knipex box joint cutters..... damn damn damn.... :)...want everything :D )

ps: So did you buy something in one of the big box stores etc. ?

Update on the spider wrench, might the manufacturer be Baldur?

Baldur = Gedore

Thanks for the nice exhibition pics !!!!!!!!! The heritage display
is pretty cool !! The Felo bit ratchet looks interesting too !

been a while since i posted any of my new purchases in here,

just got some new ones though so here they are, first up was another bargain hazet 600 series spanner, this one is 22mm, picked it up for £4, i guess Hazet's relative obscurity in the uk maybe helps with second hand prices?

looks a little tatty there, with rust spots but after a quick wire brush with some wd40 its almost like new :D

next up

some stahlwille 1/2 drive non-impact hex sockets, 22mm-30mm i really like these, they seem to crop up on ebay a lot,(and in bi hex) and fairly cheap, not as nice as the chrome ones mind.

Also another bargain from ebay, a stahlwille 3/8 drive ratchet, that set me back £15 which is considerably cheaper then rrp, brand new too.

Then a hazet 8858-1 3/8 to 1/2 adapter, really nice quality as is usual for hazet

and lastly a Wiha handled bottle opener :bounce:

both these are bought from Jens, great service from him* :D

*have some more money heading his way soon :p (sadly no really big purchases)

good question.....buy one :D ;)

That isn't going to happen if I have to send it back to Germany every 1000 operations to get it calibrated...:(

I wonder if it just flashes "cal" in between operation or if it shuts down the functionality of the tool altogether until you get it calibrated?

A lot of modern electronic test equipment does this and it can be painful.

I guess you could own two and use the other one while you get one sent away and calibrated. :)

No, but I went to all 3 you had given the address to. Very similar to Home Depot but smaller. Saw the lux tools at OBI. Met Jens and brought back a lot of Hazet stuff. He is a very nice guy highly recommend him.
