Jens - thanks for the pic of your garage and car. I prefer the blue Hazet, but very nice!

Thanks! It is not my Garage, thus the need for a mobile lift. I currently work in my company, where all my stuff has to go during normal operation. Can't allow the boss to litter up everything with his private stuff.....

I got me the 180-8 in blue first, added a side door and then I saw a customers order in silver when he picked it up and I immediately changed my mind. So if you need a 180-8 in Hazet blue, let me know!

I am currently working on a way to ship these beasts overseas by air freight and one of my Japanes customers wanted to have a 179, so he'll be the first test case next week.

That's a Finkbeiner

I have been looking for a mobile lift for years now, but all of them had the drawback that they either do not reach high enough or do not allow for full access to the underside of the car.

nice !!! Looks good !!

Re: Britool rebranding campaign

Seeing this picture again (nearly done! :bounce:), I keep on seeing Japanese ratchets with the socket indent in the head - does anyoen know what purpose this serves? :headscrat

Sick Puppy,

I'm not entirely certain on this, but it's mostlikely meant for the construction trade. Possibly a type of ratchet that was used by trademen who pressure-welded steel rebar, or tradesmen that erect scaffolding.

And while I was sifting through the archives, my questions from (what feels like long ago) are answered - thanks!

Just a word of caution(?). I've seen knock-offs of the Facom version when I was at a French fleamarket. I picked it up, made a quick inspection and deemed it a low quality tool. The chrome plating on it reeked of cheapness. It was a no-namer, just like the one you're curious about. So, keep that in mind. :D

There's some good information in this thread, all the way to page 5: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28491

My Vessel, Ko-ken, PB, and Wera screwdrivers all fit well on the JIS fasteners I've encountered.

Sick Puppy,

I own various Vessel model 900 cross recess and slotted screwdrivers. I have not had the opportunity to use them on JIS cross recess fasteners.

I would recommend posing this same question to "mrtools". He owns various Vessel model 930 screwdrivers (with hex bolsters and metal striking caps). "mrtools" works in machine maintenance at some facility in Malaysia. Some of the equipment he works on were built in Japan. "mrtools" has owned Vessel screwdrivers for a number of years and put them through heavy duty use.

Dave

Yeahh!! Vessel screwdriver confirm a JIS certificate..for a JIS screws Vessel is the best screwdriver to use..Megadora have a comfortable handle too:beer:

Btw: I had a very good experienced with Vessel Megadora, SoftGrip, and BallGrip screwdrivers..Awesome!!:thumbup:

@superautobacs - I was aware of the threads re: JIS drivers, but from memory the megadora line has changed from JIS, but apparently still fit... meh, I'll buy them anyway, I like the variety of sizes, which is greater than the Koken ones I have. Ooh, which reminds me, is it bad by the way that I'm considering buying Lancer VDE drivers to complement the Koken drivers I have?

136634633_full.jpg

Love them *******... :lol_hitti

As for the pliers, these are Japanese and used - won't be chinese rubbish, although depending on when they were made, could just be (old) Japanese rubbish instead. When I fancy a crack, I may make an offer, it's one of the established traders on Trademe here. Not too fussed, it can wait. :bounce:

@dede2897234: Thanks man, that's right, believe it or not, buying them vessels is still on my to do list! Looks like Level Chrome will be fulfilling what we hoped RJCoolTools were going to do... give it time, it will happen. But lo and behold...

... @mrtools - thanks, all three of you re: above thread - reaffirmed my desire to buy them. I like Japanese stuff. :bounce:

Browning firearms used to be Belgian made. Not sure if any now are or not - most manufacturing moved to Japan.
Not a complete loss then, at least it's not China! :lol_hitti

That's good to hear man, I was thinking the lil' dude had gone off on holiday to catch up with his brethren... :bounce:

Servus,

[me wanting an Athlet pivoting bit holder...]

I bought one (actually two - one for my father, one for me) of those Athlet pivoting bit holders when they were on sale in a German store last year. My experiences with this bit holder are not "too good". It's very difficult to apply downward pressure on the screw. As a consequence, it's almost impossible to drive a screw without stripping it. If your regularly have to work in close quarters a Festool cordless drill equipped with an eccentric chuck is what I would recommend.

Hope this helps,

Chreese
Thanks Chreese, if they're no good, then they're no good, and the Taiwanese can go back to the drawing board.

I have a Bosch IXO coming to me shortly, and I'm looking at getting the other two heads - corkscrew and the concentric head - I know the IXO is not exactly a powerhouse, but I'm not working on anything much lately, I'll see how it goes.

Thanks for your help Monte, much appreciated. MTC pliers are retailing at one vendor for NZD$30+, and another for $8. Hmmm, who to go with... lol

But they don't have USA in their country list when you register for delivery...

Recently bought some Facom goodies... 14 piece metric wrench set from the Tool Academy website, not their Ebay store front. $110 shipped to the USA, saved a fair amount by ordering directly from their home website.

I've been looking for the last several months on a decent price on the R2 Nano set, and finally found a US supplier that charged me $85 shipped to my door!!! Stanley supply was the vendor. They were out of stock for the last while and just recently got them back in. Very good price if you ask me.....

I have the R2 Nano as well. Really, really nice set and love the palm control feature. Have needed to switch the ratchet for a lower profile one on some occasions though. But the more ratchets you get to play with...

What kind of lube did you use?

What kind of lube did you use?

A very thin coat of Super-Lube. The stock lube was gooped in there way to thick, the ratchet would hardly click.

Nah, I'm sending them to my UK family (or at least I will when I tell them! lol), and having them send them to me in New Zealand. Expensive, but still cheaper than buying only one of them here.

Offset adaptor GBP 7.7 (about NZ$15) + shipping vs $55 here.
Corkscrew - GBP16 (about NZ$35) vs. not available here period.

Hmmm, decisions decisions!

Problem is that Amazon and many others won't send tools overseas - dunno if it's warranty or licensing issues, but no matter how hard I try, it just doesn't work... :(

@Monte - Thanks for the info and Lus and other NWS/Knipex copies - I've wondered about that for ages!

It says Carolus :)
A Gedore guy told me that Carolus never made them, actually Gedore made the handles and the head was imported from Taiwan or china. Back in the days some Carolus tools were made in Japan by Dia Seiko. There is a post about that somewhere in this thread too.

2 britool torque wrenches from the early 60's
moment1.jpg

moment2.jpg

They still make them in similar design; it's a typical britool design I think.

Yes, it has a very heavy click (you cant miss it), and you can push the square drive through.
They still work like a charm (easy to disassemble and maintain), but you have to stick a screwdriver in the end hole to set the force (the handle itself is free turning). It looks like a setting lever is missing, but my father said that when he bought them it definately had no setting lever in the hole at the end. The modern ones do have one though.

I've just bought one of these yesterday (well an EVT 2700 Britool torque wrench anyway) and I assumed that mine was missing its tommy bar to adjust the torque setting (doesn't matter as the screwdriver I got for 50p does the trick nicely) but if what you said is right they never came with one in the first place?
Anyway, you mention that its easy to take apart and service, now I can see a circlip on the end which I assume is how you start taking it to bits but could you describe how you do it before I get some parts of my new to me (bought for a fiver:lol:) torque wrench fired across the room by a spring or whatever, never to be seen again?

Cheers Scott.

I frequent a company here in Canada called Lee Valley Tools their head office is in Ontario Canada. They shop worldwide for all sorts of tools. They quite often buy discontinued or closeout items or N.O.S. stuff that has been sitting for awhile.I came across some N.O.S. masonry tools from a company called M.O.B. in France.I Googled it and came up with a company in Romania that makes all kinds of hand tools.Does anyone here know anything about the M.O.B.company in France? It may be a foundry.

Don't know anything about M.O.B., but I believe I've seen that stuff at Lee Valley - the most interesting pieces I saw were sledgehammers that had SNCF markings in the casting - I guess made specially for the French railways...

Here's a selection of speciallised Whitworth wrenches made more than 30 years ago.

Stabil 15 degree ringspanners, are from the 22 series.

Starter ringspanner so called for its zero offset and ability to work around generators and starter motors from the 27 series.

Congratulations on reaching 6000 posts.

nice tools and welcome to the forum !

@oldtank:
nice socket set

Here is my latest tool purchase. No longer made by Hazet.

wow nice !! very rare ! never seen any real pics only from the catalog ! Cool !Thanks for posting (and buying :)) Unfortunately they don´t make it anymore, nowadays everybody offers a set like this. It seems they were ahead of the time :) I wish they would offer extra short go-through sockets so you could use them together with the new shock absorber set.

MOB - a french hand tool manufacturer with production plants in France and Romania. Produces mainly hammers and standard hand tools. The hammers are from France, many (most ?) of the other hand tools are from romania afaik. They took over the famous german hammer manufacturer "Peddinghaus" a while ago.

Ive been buying up stahlwille wrenches did they ever once make an imperial version of the open box 14? I have 1/4-3/4 openbox 13 but was wondering if they ever made a 14 series equivelant. Which reminds me german wrenches tend to be a little shorter then their american counterparts what are you guys using as wrench holders?

From the 1995 Catalogue

13 Series;

Metric 5.5mm thru 60mm
Inch 3/16" thru 2"

14 Series;

Metric 6mm thru 41mm
Inch 1/4" thru 1 5/8"

14 series not listed in 1966 Catalog, I'd like a date for their introduction.

i don´t know but in the last couple of years not. Only the open box 13 in SAE.

Gedore offers "XL" wrenches which are longer than the german competitors wrenches. I´ve no problems (yet) using my Hazet wrenches (similar length like the open box 14)
