I am a new member, I have read many forums on different epoxys. I have it narrowed down to 100% solids, and two companys alphagarage and epoxycoat. Is there a problem with either, about their top coats turning yellow. I dont want to be disapointed two or three years down the road. I would appreciate any input to solve my problem.

As I am finishing it up tonight and will have a novel of a post and pictures, I'll just say I won't be buying Wolverine again. It's been a 2 month ordeal to get my floor in.
I will be posting my detailed experience after I give this try a few days to see what happens.

All epoxy is subject to yellowing over time. There may be some that take longer than others. The only solution is a "solid urethane". UV light will eventually pass through the clear urethane and yellow the epoxy anyway.

All epoxies can yellow over time when exposed to UV light. If you get alot of UV light we recommend a polyurea topcoat to prevent this. Some colors will amber faster than others.

I still have many people PM me with horror stories about Epoxy Coat. Their products are junk and they do not stand behind them. Rugerlady is great when selling and installing but disappears with the first sign of a problem.

I have no experience with Alpha other than reading many of his informative post. Cost is an issue with Wolverine for me.

Try "epoxy superstore". The Norken products seem to be as good as any and cheaper than most. Tech support is great but sales staff is just "ok". Had a damaged shipment - UPS fault, but I had to make a few calls before getting them to reship the products. UPS did not try to deliver but sent the package straight back to Norken. Did not think I should have to call to get them to ship a replacement. Anyway..:dunno:

My suggestion is epoxy primer, 100% solids base color, two coats urethane.

Banker,
I know there are several people that have used them successfully. The true test is when you have a product issue. You did not get a chance to experience it from that side, but several of the folks that were singing praise now send me stories.

I try to stay out of flooring forum these days, and keep in tools etc. Was a little slow this morning. lol

Thats funny, I don't get messages from people with problems very often. Why would they come to you first?? :headscrat

so what are these storys you speak of? is it a down the road problem after the epoxy-coat has been on the floor for awhile? I would like to know as i'm in the middle of coating my floor. if you would prefer to send me a PM so as not to cause a riot in here that would be fine.

Yes this is important info for us that have not yet done their floor. So I say, anyone who has used any of the products and has had it on for a year or more should chime in with their opinion.

That's funny. They say you won't call them back? I guess after seeing my mess with your products and the lack of warranty from your company they think I have some special answers or processes. :headscrat

You only seem to receive calls or emails when you are selling that garbage. Never get any messsages from people with product failures?

It is the same type problems with the clear coats going bad. Yellowing, peeling etc. I am not going to give out any details of others. If you want to know details on my experience with Epoxy coat then search on threads started by me or "performance epoxy". etc.

Go with a polyaspartic. No yellowing, no hot tire marks, light duty service 2 hours after the final coat. Some are 100% solids (like LINE-X Aspart-X), others contain a small amount of solvents.

You can use just a plain color or add color chips or quartz.

These forums are excellent places to learn and research.
We have made some good relationships on this forum and even sold a few products.

Unfortunately, the knife cuts in both directions and doing business here also presents inherent risks to the seller, as we all learned tonight on this and another post.

Coatings work is NOT an exact science and it never will be. Here is why:
Every substrate (floor) and every installer is different!! Even if God made your epoxy and backed it up in writing, there would be failures.

Therefore, judge your supplier by what they do after the problem arises. Give them a chance to do some testing, most of us are chemists and have labs to do some pretty amazing tests on failed coatings.

Before ripping them a new ****-hole, pull out a five dollar bill and ask yourself, what would Abraham Lincoln do? I'll bet you find that bit of advice helps you solve problems much better than an *** whooping on the forums.

I hope I'm not included in your thought process with this comment. If so, I think you misunderstood my thread.

Personally, I would price out hiring someone who does epoxy.

I hired a local company called Epoxy Inc, it might be a chain or franchise, IDK.

They had issues with bubbles or whatever you call it. They kept working till it was damned near perfect. (10 coats later) I have the best floor out of all of my friends. They did a fantastic job, and its so very impressive how well it turned out.

So that being said, look into hiring it out to a professional. I priced it out vs the u-coat-it costs and it was actually CHEAPER to hire it out.

I do everything myself. And I mean everything! I laid my back patio myself. 15 tons of material I laid one wheelbarrow at a time moving it from the front yard to the back yard. I am glad I hired the epoxy out.
