You got a good deal on that saws/plane/etc purchase.
DisstonianInstitute is a repository of all sorts of info on Disston saws. There is a page on identifying models by handle shape, and a page on production dates by medallion type, and a page on the history of each major model.
Atkins is a top brand, as well.
The handsaw thread I started is here. If you want to post medallions or other handsaw pics, feel free. With DI so thoroughly covering the topic, it seemed a little redundant for me to do more than provide a link.

Picked up this parts/tool cabinet this afternoon, found on marketplace for $50. It's in pretty good condition, I believe it's late 40's or early 50's.

Wow, that is a cool cabinet and looks to be in great condition. Just shelves inside? Great score.

Ed nice pickup on the planer. I think I was at that sale earlier (and Provincial too) and there was some interesting woodworking tools and boat molds there.

B.Well There are a lot of good saws out there if you are willing to look. The DI that LesserSon mentions is a great way to get acquainted with what to look for in a good saw, no matter the maker. I found a George Bishop rip saw at Habitat about a year ago, no one had any idea what it was so I got it for a good price. People know about Disston and sometimes price them accordingly.

Thanks tx. The knife grinder made the deal for me.

Thanks beemer. I would have been surprised if some of the local GJ guys hadn't hit that sale given the C/L add. Outside of the heavy machines I didn't see a lot there as I think the family picked it down pretty good before the sale. I doubt they sold a lot the first day as the original prices on most things were near eye watering. The planer started with a $2000 price tag on it but was scratched down to $1200 on Sunday until finally everything went half price at the end of the sale when I was kicking around. Ed.

Yep just shelves, a couple extra plywood ones have been added at some point. Also does anyone know anything about cabinet locks? It has locks but no keys, the locks are stamped 2135 if that means anything?

That number is probably the code for the key, you can probably take the lock into a good 'smith shop and they can match the blank needed and cut a new master.

Or try small keys you have and you might find one that will show the base key. (if you are incredibly lucky you might even have a key that works! I've gotten lucky a few times using my "key collection"... (I don't technically collect keys, but I have a huge "collection" for trying, or in some cases, re-keying other locks...)

First time posting in this thread. Not really a garage sale, but coworker gave me two seats from the former home of Atlanta Braves Fulton County Stadium.

I am confused ? Did you buy the bear cabinet or you were thinking about buying it?

No, I only thought it was cool til the Deadhead tie in came in to play.

The first shop I took a car to for tire work was called Bear Tire, had the huge bear on their sign. So a fond memory of learning about how tires got screwed up back then, chatting with their tech while he worked.

Kinda like this sign a few miles away, but it was in Azusa. This one goes back a ways into the 70's too.

Now I understand! If the Grateful Dead was the originator of the logo that would drive the price down for me but since they borrowed it, I still love the cabinet!

I love it, but there are lots of Deadheads in my neighborhood, so it may get stolen if they knew the connection.

The main attraction in my flea market haul this morning (Lugz 2020_33) is the BELL SYSTEM B toolkit. It's full and I will unveil the treasures on the 'Bell System' thread. The mess of orphan tools includes some uncommon items, such as the Triumph (car or bike, not sure...) DBE wrench, a Billings tappet wrench, a Handy Andy (boys' toy toolkit) DOE wrench, that b]Vlchelk[/b] spark plug socket off to the right there, the 8" combination slip-joint McKaig-Hatch pliers with a monograph style logo I have never seen before, two Long C Craftsman Circle-H 3/8-inch drive pieces, and a late 1930's Plomb/b] 5249 3/8-inch drive ratchet. The Lutz Tool & File Handle is not rare, and neither is the Bonney -ZENEL- DOE wrench, but it does have some odd markings.

In the LEFT-BEHIND (too rich for my blood...) category...

As some of you may recall, we had a serious run on vintage Red Ryder BB guns here on this thread in 2018 (my hosting year). At least 6 or 7 rifles found, plus an empty case and some ammo. See Pic 1.

The brass thingie in Pic 2 is a Corps of Engineers Blasting Cap Detonator. The wires from the explosive connect to the two posts you see there and you twist that knurled knob to detonate.

We dodged a bullet here with the storm as it kept drifting west toward the Tx / La border. I hope all in the storm's path fared as well as one can in such a situation.

I hit an estate sale in the neighborhood last week a couple of times and spent $88.

My favorites are the:

105mm Howitzer shell casing dated 1945
NOS American Dispenser Co. dispensers
Shakeproof Lock Washer Co. sample boxes
Chatillon 20 lb scale
Exxon thermometer

Interesting Sale today. They didn't publish the address until an hour before opening--I felt lucky to get inside with the first group as #10.

Prices were all over the place. They were asking $157 for a Pexto brace that was maybe worth $5. They wanted $65 for a draw knife I would have given $7 for. They had a few old "wall hanger" rifles they wanted over $800 a piece for.

I was happy to get out of there for just $10 for the vice grips and the Craftsman Crown box. It's missing about half the original items but I bought it just because the box was in pretty good shape. No dents and just honest wear, plus the inside is great looking. The logo is pretty shot, though.

The sockets on the right and the DOE are -vv- series; 1/4-3/8 adapter is Duro Indestro and the two 3/8-1/4 adapters are no-name--everything else is =v=.

Nice score.

You did good getting the wall bracket with the vintage "rocket" ice crusher. I never see the bracket on these or their wall mounted can opener sibling.

What are the screw clamp on "clamp things" in photo four?

Couple years back the family of a President of a corporation that we have as a client had us make these display seats for the man cave to celebrate said prez's birthday. The seats came from Joe Louis arena (hockey) and Briggs/Tiger Stadium (baseball/football). Both are torn down and long gone.

That’s pretty cool! Especially the detail on the tiger seats!

I went to a sale like that one time! They gave the city but not the address. One of the pics was an old lunch box with a guys name. I searched the name & city and found an address. Turned out to be the right one.... but I was still like #5 in the door. We had all pieced it together the same way. I wondered if the estate sale company didn’t do that on purpose......

The detonator brings back a lot of memories for me Lugz. When I first started working in the mining industry I was tasked with hand drilling and blasting a large boulder field as part of a crushing contract. I spent the better part of the winter in 78' drilling holes in 20 boulders at a time and then loading them up with about 1/4 stick or so each and popping them. Then lay out another batch and repeat....

The blaster was rated for 10 caps in series but by running parallel strings it would reliably pop 20 at a time. A lot of hard work rewarded with a brief bit of fun. A couple pics of my old equipment. Ed.
