    Need help modifying snowblower

Quick and dirty fix: Rip an old rag or tee shirt into a long 4" wide strip and tie it around the activator lever. Not necessarily going to win any safety awards but it has worked flawlessly on my push mower for many years...

Pole barn interior - "framing" to hang sheetrock/osb

I would only consider traditional framing for your application, especially with sheetrock. I think you will find the walls just to flimsy. At about $3.00 a piece for a 2x4 or 2x6 stud, going tradition framing ought not be cost prohibitive. In my life I have cut corners in the past for...

    Soldering copper

Just last month a friend of mine asked me for advise on how to solder a pipe that kept dripping. I told him the white bread trick. An hour later he called me back saying how great it worked. Then a week later his wife called and asked me if I could come by and clean all their faucet aerators...

Plumbing- is this as dumb as it looks?

I have seen this type of set up while doing remodels. My guess is that it is an attempt to "fake" a vent to a sink location added after the rough inspection. Once the sheetrock is up it "looks" like there is a vent back there. You would be surprised what I find when demoing new construction.

foam spraying around air boots/registers safe?

Air boots, registers, and boiler pipes are fine to foam around. Furnace/boiler exhaust pipes, not so much.

    TV in Garage

I have a 32" LCD that I picked up free, remote and all, from a college dumpster late one Spring. (in fact I grabbed five that day when I noticed some rich graduate tossing it at the end of the semester. -I gave the other four to Goodwill)

Ladder storage in garages - any creative ideas?

I had mine hanging outside but they got all dirty and were loaded with spiders so I built an addition to the garage to store the ladders. (I have since painted the exterior but I have no updated pic)

    Tiling in a Shower

Red-guard is fine to use. Easy and inexpensive. Kerdi is probably better but it is very pricey. I am currently using it in a commercial tile job I took on and it has almost doubled what I would normally quote. I just don't trust it though, especially over plain sheetrock in a shower as...

    Insulation Difference?

You are paying for Dow's advertising and the fact that they bleach and dye their insulation to make it a pretty pink color. I believe Certain-teed bleaches and dyes as well. I know John's Mansfield does neither. Regardless of brand, R value is R value...

    Lowes installation services - RANT

I'm only saying that had an independent contractor been hired, all these issues would have been handled by him and if there were issues you might not have even known...

    general contractor license question

OMG as a homeowner in Rhode Island, you cannot pull your own permits! That is ridiculous! It can only lead to people doing unpermitted and uninspected work. In many States, anybody can become a contractor without any special training. In other States, like California, there is some...

    Lowes installation services - RANT

Unfortunately these stories are all to common with Lowes and Homer. The installers they hire may or may not be decent installers but what they definitely are is independent contractors who are either just getting started in the business or their business has stagnated and they need the referral...

    Sub-contractor issue

The reason you have a CG is so you don't have to deal, or worry, about these issues. What Zeke said is probably true, somebody hit his pipe but Geez the plumber sounds like a pansy. I would **** it up and fix it ASAP and maybe ask the GC for some more $$ but I as a sub I would NEVER approach...
