    DIY flare nut wrench

It has been proposed to me by another GJ member (name changed to protect the innocent) that one might make one's own flare nut wrenches by cutting a gateway in a common box end wrench, a la this: http://www.oursuv.com/boards/GMSUV0407/messages/1044.html It would seem to me that this would spread...

    Parallel:williams' current and Snappy's '23 catalog

I noticed in collectingsnapon.com's 1923 Snap-on catalog they had some selected x/32nd size sockets. Williams lists almost the exact same sizes in their offerings. http://www.collectingsnapon.com/catalogs/catalogs.php?loggedin=0&catalogPage=10...

    Chevy K1500 fastener sizes

I'm currently putting together a tool kit for my 93 Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 and I'm wondering what bolt/nut sizes I might run into. Perhaps some of the guys working in GM shops could give me some direction. Specifically: What metric sizes?(10/11/13/15/18/? like Ford?) SAE sizes? How big do I need to...

Anyone own Williams USA 3/8" extensions?

I have been thinking about getting rid of some Mac 3/8 extensions that I've been less than impressed with (sockets just seem to fit loosely, even worse than my Craftsman). Snap-on is the next contestant, but I thought maybe I should give Williams a shot, especially considering the price...

    Tools in 1/64" increments?

A member here mentioned tools in 1/64" increments, I'm familiar with 1/32" stuff but never heard of stuff in 64ths. Anyone have any info/pics/links/anecdotes?

    New Snap-on dealer rocks!

I am usually a negative person, so here's some good news for a change! We got a new Snap-on guy a few weeks back and I've made a lot of purchases. Some stuff at full price but mostly promo, BOGO, 15% off, 50% off, etc. Two of those things were a soft handled ratchet and a soft handled breaker...

    7/16" hex bit uncommon?

I just received an order of tools and in it was my Wright hex bit set #311. This covers 1/8" through 5/8" but for some reason the set doesn't include a 7/16". Is this something you fractional/SAE guys just never use? Should I get one to round out the set?(of course I should! lol):D

    Tool ID

What is this thing called/for? The center is likely hollow since the tool is light and it appears to be made all from one piece of steel (spring? it appears to be strong and durable). We use it in the auto repair shop to cut/break through silicone sealer stuck to rubber "worm" gaskets, such as...

Pin or bolt in Williams flex head ratchet?

I've been thinking about some new J.H.Williams 3/8 and 1/2 flex head ratchets but I can't tell from the pictures I've seen if they have pins or threaded bolts in the hinge joint. Does anyone know? I like the idea of the additional support of the bolt style in resisting spread in the clevis. In...

    Long 3/4" dr. flex handle?

So who makes a long 3/4" drive flex handle/hinge handle/breaker bar? All I've been seeing are in the 19-21" range. Prefer USA:) thanks (actually, a long ratchet would be welcome, too)

    Millers Falls mic

Gentlemen, What can you tell me about the item in the pictures below? A fellow at work walked up to me yesterday and handed it to me. I think he may want to sell it to me, so I figured I'd run it past you guys first.

Superior Tool Co. indexable head ratchet

Have any of you guys ever heard of this company or own any of their tools? I bought this 3/8 indexable ratchet from an independant tool guy circa 1993. I hardly ever used it, when I did the teeth stripped a few years later, tool guy never to be seen agayn. She sat in my box for the better part...

    goofy handtool drive system

IIRC, a few years ago someone (Matco?) was pushing a line of ratchets and sockets that had some sort of (proprietary?) "spline" attaching/drive setup. I don't mean the "spline" drive where the "spline" part of the socket contacts the fastener and can fit multiple types of fastener heads (6...

    German tool laws question

Perhaps Herr Monte or one of our other German members can answer a question for me. About fifteen years or so ago I worked with a fellow from Germany (I'm an auto mechanic in the US) who told me that it was illegal for a tool company to sell a tool in Germany with a lifetime warranty. This was...

    Old S-O torque w. question

Hello Gents, I hope this isn't too ambitious for a noob post, here goes. I have this poor abandoned old Snap-On torque wrench that I have given a new home to. It is my intention to return this tool to service and I have some questions for the gurus here. Exhibits A, B, and C: The crystal...
