    Vintage Jack stands.

I have some old jack stands that I can't find any informed on. They are 19" tall when fully extended. 12" tall when collapsed. They only have 2 identification marks. The numbers CS266 and CS2.65. There is also a "W" stamp. I am going to guess that they came with an old vehicle as an accessory...

    Dielectric grease on terminals.

Hello everyone! I have been getting some conflicting information on the use of dielectric grease. Everyone seems to know it is safe for sparkplug boots and battery terminals. What about Weatherpack, Deutsch, and metri pack connectors? I have had the habit of using some on all the little seals...

    Knipex pliers corrosion resistance

What is everyone's thoughts on the different coatings on these pliers. I just got the 12" pliers tonight and the steel almost looks like a plain steel finish. They came in a bag inside the box with a coating of oil on the steel. Do I need to keep these in my humidity controlled shop or will they...

Converting new style m24x1.5 threaded floor jacks to the old style 1-3/16" pin.

I just posted two threads. Both are about jack extensions. One is a machined extension and the other is a welded extension. Well at some point someone had the great idea, not, to start making the saddles bolt on with the weirdest thread possible, M24x1.5. Not only is the thread odd but I wanted...

    Welded jack extensions

Just posted "machined jack extensions". Here are the welded jack extensions I made first. The bores and pins were machined in the lathe. The tube is 2.5"x1/4" square tubing. About 8" and 4" extensions. Use this information at your own risk.

Water heater connections in new construction.

So I was looking though my parents new home construction and wondered what you all think of the water heater plumbing. The WH is electric but hasn't been wired yet. 1. No expansion tank for WH. New construction so I assume there has to be a backflow valve at water meter. 2. In place of...

    Romex nm J-box clamps

Today I was running some Romex to lengthen a 3-way switch run. All the cable is behind drywall and I assumed that there was at least one or two staples somewhere behind the studs. Running all new cable would have been a major pain. So I installed a 4-11/16 junction box to the old cable and came...

    New house footers

My dad is having a new house built and so far I am confused by what is going on. I know nothing about house construction yet I do know some rules of thumb about being a handy man. This house is slab construction. The concrete was poured yesterday in footers dug 15" to 16" deep. Last night...

Face shields, mesh shields , PPE for grinding

I have been trying to use a face shield when using my angle grinder and knife grinder. Do most of you use a face shield or just safety glasses? Do you wear a disposable respirator? I find that I get some painful hot sparks on my face from time to time when only using safety glasses. I am sure...

    6" angle grinders

Another 6" angle grinder thread. I don't have a 6" grinder for cut-off duty and I am going crazy fast without one. Which is the easiest German Grinder to get parts for? I have a Fein, that I did love, and the electronics board seems to have burnt out. It does the soft start and gets up to...
