    What Is It Pliers?

Anybody know what kind of pliers these are? Made by a Douglass Auto Appliance Corp of Minneapolis, pressed steel construction. Only found three reference in trade publications dating 1919 to 1923. The vintage section might be better for tracking down the company, but here in the General section...

Attn: CRAFTSMAN Collectors--Need More Info On this Unique Item

This came from an estate sale, but after quite a time beating the web to death I could not find any reference to it whatsoever. eBay listings, old catalogs, you name it. Nothing. Apparently quite uncommon. Long-C logo gives some idea of age. I found only a few references to different earlier CM...

    Harbor Freight--US General brand history

Ive seen several references in this forum suggesting that US General was an existing toolbox company HF acquired. Yet a recent thread led to research indicating that no toolbox company by that name previously existed, nor could I find any record in the USPTO database that any company ever...

Help with identifying unusual brand mark on vintage 1/2 dr. socket

I found this socket in a box of mixed drive tools. The toolbox is a Craftsman with crown logo badge, and the other tools in the box also suggests a 1960s to 1970s dating. I've never seen this WW mark before. Anyone know what company this is?

Opinions Welcome for Armstrong Wrench Possibly Military or WW2

I came upon this Armstrong 13/16" #705 engineer wrench for which I've had little luck with dating it. It appears to be an earlier carbon steel wrench. According to AA, Armstrong continued making some carbon steel wrenches after alloys were introduced. This appears to be one of them, possibly...

The Sordid Past of Harbor Freight Tools (this is NOT an HF bash thread!!!)

INTRODUCTION: I've been mentioning from time to time about writing this thread, but I haven't been able to devote the time and be in the right frame of mind until now. I thought it would be important to share this, and to enter the info for posterity into the GJ lexicon. HF is such a significant...

Need HELP With Wilton Vise ID

Yes, I know there's tons of Wilton info on this forum. But just my first efforts in looking at it indicates it would take me many, many hours to pour through it and still maybe not find what I'm looking for, since this is only a humble 3-1/2" model. I attached some photos with the markings...

Help I.D. This Unusual Dial Indicator Attachment Base

Just recently acquired this dial indicator having this odd base attachment. I've scoured the internet and have seen all kinds of attachments and bases for indicators, but nothing like this. It's made of steel, and a magnet attracts to it but it's not magnetic itself. Anyone know what this is...

A Question for Sears Craftsman Wrench Collectors About Companion & Evolv

First, let me ask that please please please please please do not start posting about your opinion of Sears, Craftsman, China, etc etc etc etc etc. There are plenty of Sears lament/gripe/bash threads to chime in on. This has NOTHING to do with any quality issues or the like. It has to do with...

The Mysterious FILSON Tools...mystery now solved (at least, in part)!

I found a couple of Filson branded wrenches. Had never seen the name before, so I started the usual web research and found this to be an obscure company with a few tool photos and a lot of folks wondering who they were. So I decided to dig a little deeper to see what I could find. A few...

Another Piece of the Spiegel Precision-Bilt Tools Puzzle

Occasionally we all run into some odd vintage tool brands for which there is little or no organized web references. One of these is Precision-Bilt tools. It's already been established on this board that Precision-Bilt was the house-brand tools sold in the Spiegel catalog at one time. Reference...

Help Identify This Tiny Antique Vise

Very small vise, about 5.5" tall, 1-1/2" jaws, appears to be cast iron. Has V60 forged in on one side, on the other stamped PAT PEND. The PAT PEND is old serif style and each letter looks to be individually hand stamped, which gives it a very old look. the handle rods are a one-piece casting...

G96 Triple Action Gun Oil for.....Ratchets???!!!

Anybody ever use this stuff? Just got a can from an estate sale, item number 1054. Squeezed a drop on my fingers and rubbed it, man that's slick! Blew my silicone oil away. Had just completed dropping in a replacement core on a 3/8" SK RHFT. Decided to clean out most of the grease they send you...

    A "Sticky" Sears Craftsman Thread

You may have noticed the recent thread started in the General Tool Section entitled "Sears Circling the Drain." It has the usual back and forth in the topic. But something new came up. I finally was able to realize within myself why so many people were harping on what's happening to Sears and...

Vintage Adjustable Wrench-Off: Diamond vs Danielson

I've acquired quite a few vintage adjustable wrenches over time and am now looking to make up a master set for one area of the shop. I've got a number of USA brands to choose from, including those from JP Danielson and Diamond Horseshoe. I'd like to know everyone's thoughts on which was the...

Tool for Repairing / Replacing Drive Tool Friction / Detent Balls

I occasionally run into situations where the detent or friction ball in a drive tool stud like a ratchet or extension is missing. I don't need info on the balls or springs. My question is about what is apparently called a 'staking' tool to peen the replacement ball back into the stud. I've...

Show Us your Vintage New Britain Mustang Tools!

I posted this set in a Mustang thread under the General Tool Discussion. But I thought it should be re-posted properly under the Vintage section. It also seems that the Mustang branded tools should have their own "Show em" thread. This set might be as good a start as any. Mustang was a budget...

Question for All You Vintage Plomb/Proto Collectors

I'm sure Plomb/Proto collectors are familiar with the trademark image of the naked lady floating in the air with outstretched arms and a ribbon across her breasts. I seem to recall this was introduced during WWII and persisted from the Plomb to the Proto period. My question is, can anyone tell...

    Yet another hair-brained ratchet mod

I was musing over the pile of Taiwan-style 3/8 ratchets I've accumulated over the last several years and wondering what in the heck am I going to do with all these. A few of them are actually pretty decent. Then it struck me. You know...one of those hair-brained mental pictures that once you...
