How to find out amperage of circuit breaker if no acess?

Situation: I'm renting. There is a 120 volt outlet in the unit. I do not have access to the breaker panel. I also cannot reach the landlord. I want to run a stick welder on this outlet. I'm worried about tripping the breaker and have no idea what other outlets in the unit will be out of service...

CT Maximum 1/2 metric (incomplete) deep socket set for $30. Good deal?

I only have a deep socket for my lugnuts. I'll eventually run into more situations where I need a full set. Is this good enough? I'd say so because deep sockets seem to cost ~$10 each individually, so I'm getting a whole bunch for the price of 3. But, I don't know any better.

Tool for scribing lines on mild steel.

This is for fabbing/welding. I bought one of those tungsten carbide scribe tools that look like a pen but the tip kept slipping out until it eventually got lost. I need another tool to do this job and am open to repurposing another tool to do it. Just need suggestions.

How to tell how big of a booster pack you need?

I have a Noco GB40 which says "1000 Amps". I'm guessing as long as the amperage is equal to or above the CCA of the battery, it should be good, correct? Or is there another formula used?

    Insulated bit driver.

Looking for options for my "prosumer" electrical kit. I was thinking of buying a set of individual insulated screwdrivers at first, but considering how little I will use it, I think it's better to buy a single good quality insulated driver that accepts standard 1/4" bits and use 2-3" long bits...

Minimum amperage for automotive battery charger?

I want to be able to charge my car battery if it ever drains. I used to have a 0.8 amp charger that I tried to use to charge a fully drained battery but it didn't work. I had to take the battery to a battery shop to charge. Was told the 0.8 is too small. Battery discharges as soon as it gains...

    Opinions on indexing pry bars?

These have been out for a while now. Can they be considered a "must have" tool now for general mechanical (auto) use? Will a set of of these replace a set of traditional prybars with poly handles? Can they replace the lady's foot prybars? If you didn't have any pry bars, would you buy these as...

    Tool organization within box(es)...

So, I don't have a lot of tools (comparatively) but my collection has grown from a small ammo can to multiple medium sized totes over the last few years. I'm trying to get a handle on things and trying to organize them in ways that make sense. I could organize them by the "thing" that I'm...

Is it safe to store AA/AAA batteries reversed inside devices?

Example: I have LED flashlight that takes 1xAA battery. The battery I'm using is Ni-MH (Eneloop type). I don't use this flashlight often and the switch is on the tailcap that could accidentally turn on while I'm moving stuff AROUND the flashlight. Is reversing the battery a safe way to store it?

    809's questions.

As a welder/fabber in training, I'll be asking a lot of questions. To reduce forum clutter, I'll just dump all my questions in one thread as they come up. To start, why is it that the the amperage is the user controlled variable on a welding machine and never the voltage? Is it because...

    First welding helmet purchase advice.

Starting welding school in January. Will be doing on the job training work with company that does small-medium sized structural steel projects also, along with minor pipe work in the field. 95% of the training/work I'll be doing at this company will be MIG. I want to buy a helmet that is up to...

3/8" drive good enough for all automotive maintenance provided a long enough breaker bar?

Thinking of downsizing my socket/ratchet assortment in the toolbox I carry to work on my vehicle. Right now, it's a mix of 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 with lots of redundency of socket sizes. If I go just 3/8" drive, I'm thinking a normal 3/8" ratchet and a longer (15"+) 3/8" breaker bar. And all...

Safety glasses for working around welders?

I work in a shop that does welding. But, I am not a welder. Walking around wearing a welding helmet makes no sense. Same with those super dark goggles for plasma cutters. Are there any safety glasses that block a decent amount of arc flash/UV but don't make it look like it's night out? Am I...

Cr-V vs Cr-Mo for impact sockets?

I thought impact sockets should ideally be made from Cr-Mo because it's a softer steel. But, companies like Tekton make their impact sockets from Cr-V. Are these not as good?

    Question about automotive battery boosters...

What is to stop me from wiring up a whole bunch of 18650 batteries and attaching them to a simple heavy duty switch and using that as a battery booster? Is this unsafe? What about using power tool batteries as battery boosters? I know that they have over current protection. What if I bypassed...

Is this Ryobi $170 angle grinder better than this Ryobi $80 angle grinder?

Spray paint cans are tools...? How do I "recharge" one?

I have a Rustoleum spray paint can from last year. I tried using it today. There is definitely paint in there when compared to an empty one. No matter how much I shake the can, I get only 2-3 nozzles worth of paint. Then, I have to shake it again to get any more paint. If I don't shake it, only...

What is more versatile for a noob, a (hammer) drill or an impact driver?

Assume that you only have money for one, until next year when you can buy the other. I'm assuming a drill would be more useful across various tasks in automotive, metalwork, woodworking, general repairs, etc...

Is ~$45 USD for a 30 piece metric/SAE (non-ratcheting) combination wrench set made by Gearwrench a good deal?

It's at Canadian Tire. I know for sure that Gear Wrench makes all their house brand wrenches. You can also tell by zooming in on the size markings. Exactly same font/size used by Gear Wrench...
