    Recommend an all-purpose nail gun

There's not really a one size fits all unfortunately. I have a 3.5" Framing nailer for framing nails (it will shoot shorter nails), a 16ga angled finish nailer for finish nailing (crown, baseboards, door and window casement, bigger trim), an 18ga 2" brad nailer (tacking together cabinets and...

    bbq tools

Not sure where mine are made, and frankly I don't care. In my book, quality stuff is quality stuff regardless of where it's made. I got a nice set of Williams Sonoma bbq tools for my birthday a few years back and they're awesome, the best set of bbq tools I've ever owned. Super thick and heavy...

    Ode to a respirator...

I use the 3M ones. HD will have them on clearance from time to time for $25. Whenever I will be painting something I'll buy a new one but I hang onto the old ones and use them when I do woodworking. They still filter dust even after the charcoal has "expired" much better than those paper masks...

Shop Walk in Door: Opens IN or OUT?

It's a multi-point lock. It has 4 different "pins," One goes in the top of the frame, one goes in each side, and one goes into the floor. It's tied into the deadbolt so when you unlock the door, it unlocks the pins from the frame. Kinda like how a bank vault door works but less pins. It's quite...

Shop Walk in Door: Opens IN or OUT?

If you're worried about break ins, you could use one of these if you've got the coin. My company uses them on all of our retail stores. Since we've installed them we have yet to have one fail during attempted burglaries, we've only had the doors fail.

Re: Disk brake pad spreader This ^^^^ the old pad fits perfectly obviously. No need to overthink things.

    Disc brake pad spreader

Re: Disk brake pad spreader I just use a C-clamp and use the old brake pad to spread the load. Works well with 2 piston calipers like my truck has.

    trencher rental

If you hit a large enough rock, it will start bouncing, make sure you lift the boom back up if it does. Other than that, it's pretty easy to operate. I rented one of the ride on skid steer ones last year to pipe mine and my two neighbors' gutter downspouts off the back of our properties. I...

    Sharkbite Fittings - permanent?

Well put. A lot of people are resistant to new technologies because "it's not the way we've always done it"

Anyone have a first aid kit in their garage?

I don't have one in my garage but I have one in my truck which is right outside usually, and my garage is right off the kitchen first aid stuff in the kitchen too.

    Harbor Freight Compressor died...

It's a 6 year old Harbor freight compressor (Central Pnuematic). I can't remember the HP of it but it's an upright with a 25 gallon tank. It crapped out about 6-9 months ago. Started smoking like crazy and when I pulled the plastic shroud off the motor, there was stuff oozing out of the...

    Keypad garage entry, thoughts?

I have one that came with my chamberlain opener but I never installed it. With thousands of dollars of tools and equipment in my garage, I don't feel safe installing it. Even though I live in a quiet neighborhood and have accidentally left my door open overnight on many occassions and nothing...

    Harbor Freight Compressor died...

Thanks for the info, the capacitor in my HF compressor crapped out a few months ago. I need to replace it. It started oozing melted plastic out the side of it.

That impact driver will drive coarse threaded 3.5" cabinet screws through the cabinet and into a stud without the driver or you breaking a sweat. Lowes has it new for $189...
