question about adding onto existing house

I'm trying to think under which circumstances this makes sense to do and I cannot come up with a good one. Also in my experience, if you currently only have enough money to do the first story and if by the hammer of Thor, wherever the new money is coming from 6 months later doesn't end up...

Help me identify these: glass insulators?

The painters removed these off of the house. I'd like to know as much about them as I can. The glass is solid 1 1/4" Dia X 5 3/8", made in USA by PYREX Patent number 170006 - info which is all formed in the glass. The attaching base is solid brass (1 3/4" x 3" x 5/8 H). The cap is 1"H with a...

Hitch mounted cargo tray = table?

Found this through search: looks like an option. On this webpage http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/20076755/print/true.cfm there are details, here is a quote from the builder: I built the silly rack basically to carry firewood and a cooler on. Then about a year later I...

Hitch mounted cargo tray = table?

Ha! never though about cannibalizing a folding table. I should look and see if there are table legs that work with the 24" depth hitch cargo trays. I think most of those folding tables are about 30" but I have seen "skinny" folding tables. It does seem like an easy solution. Thanks a ton!

Hitch mounted cargo tray = table?

I knew I was being a bit too vague. :) What I'm looking for is a tray you can load cargo onto and then when you get to your destination, you unhitch it from the rig and possibly attach legs so that it is a stand alone table. kind of like this.. but with legs that either fold down or detachable.

Hitch mounted cargo tray = table?

Hi folks, been a long time since my last post. I'm sure I am not the first one to think of this but I'm looking around for a hitch mounted cargo tray that can double as a table (w folding legs or something like that). Tried searching the net and this forum but no luck. Has anyone seen...

Solving the mysteries of Dovetailed joints

I used to have a cabinet making business. I always would have small scrap laying around the shop and at the end of each day, I practiced cutting a dove-tail by hand using nothing but my marking knife, dovetail saw and chisel. I got to where I could cut a tight fitting dove tail in about 8...

Need expert's advice on how to paint a wall

I hate painting. On the other hand, I can't justify hiring a pro because w.r.t the $$ involved its such a basic thing to DIY. The result is I end up painting a lot. People have given a lot of advice here and I won't even attempt a list of my own. I just want to share my single best piece of...

200 amp panel with 100 amp service

The PoCo says in cases where its needed they install some piece of hardware called a "midspan". Properties like mine that have no pole to drop from require them where aerial trespasses are a concern. I have no idea what they look like but apparently that's what they would do if necessary. I'm...

200 amp panel with 100 amp service

A year is the time-frame I set up for myself to get some work done on my garage. My Idea is to relocate my drop from the back of my house to the back of my detached garage, then using s feed-through panel, run a feeder to a new 200 amp panel in the house. I already called the PoCo and the...

Laying concrete block with zero clearance.

I said I would post an update of the project. Not the prettiest but this was my first time laying concrete block and I simply didn't want to pay a mason for such a small job. The first two courses went good. For the last course I had a helper stand outside and wedge the blocks up with a...

200 amp panel with 100 amp service

I'm replacing the 100 amp panel in my house and I want to upgrade my panel to 200 amp but the actual 100 amp service from the PoCo will not be upgraded for some time (~ 1 year). Is it OK to have a 200 amp panel running off of a 100 amp service?

Hi all, I like charcoal but also enjoy the convenience of gas bbq's however don't like having to deal with LP tanks. So I put a wanted add on CL for a Natural gas grill and after a few months ended up with this: Before I bought it, I ask the guy about the female fitting for the disconnect...
