    Open or Closed back cabinets

A 1/4"plywood back will help keep the cabinet square and prevent "racking". For the small additional cost and labour , it's well worth it in my opinion.

    Drywall experts (or not) help

I agree with Speed . Using screws is far better. A trick I learned years ago was to always put in two screws about about an inch apart , where you would normally only install one . This will give you double the holding power and still only creates one spot to fill . Using fresh mud is always...

    Best workbench surface... opinions?

Just bought 16 gauge 304 Stainless with a # 4 brushed finish. Looks great and should be a breeze to keep clean. I installed it over 2 pieces of 3/4 "plywood with 1/4" MDF on top.

    Cross Drilling Bolts

I would recommend: 1. Using a cobalt drill , available from any machine shop supply house. If you can get a 135 degree split point , all the better 2. Some coolant to keep the bit from getting too hot. 3. A die nut to chase the thread , if you're drillling on the threaded portion. 4. A...

    Need a cheap Dial Caliper

Starrett or maybe Fowler are the only U.S. made units that I'm aware of . It's not uncommon to see a Starrett dial caliper or micrometer that's well over 25 years old and still working perfectly . Quality lasts and if you do buy a cheap caliper, which really goes against the very idea of making...

    Drywall experts (or not) help

It's not that hard ! I've probably done the equivalent of 2 or 3 1200 sq. ft. houses over the years . The one mistake that most novices make is the boarding . Pros typically use bigger sheets and / or plan their jobs with the least amount of seams . Less seams= Less taping and mudding...

    removable floor anchor

I think that in a static installation like the projectors mentioned , the lead anchors could be suitable. But for fastening tools or machinery that are going to vibrate and be leveraged against , the drop in would be a better choice. If you want the best in strength , I would go with a cast in...

    removable floor anchor

In my humble opinion a drop in anchor would be considerably stronger, given that is made of carbon steel opposed to lead.

    removable floor anchor

You could also just buy some socket set screws that are the correct size to protect the threads as well . I'm not sure but was astroracer talking about a lead lag shield as the fastener he used ?

    removable floor anchor

www.pipeproducts.com/ITW_Ramset.gif This is a fairly easy anchor to install. You drill the correct size hole , making sure that you are also drilling to the correct depth with a carbide tipped drill bit in a hammer drill. Install the anchor by using a setting tool or an appropriate sized piece...
