    Shop wiring

A rented trencher will make quick work of that, I would suggest going down 3' or whatever the trencher will do. Deeper is better as far as that goes, in my opinion. Then you won't accidentally drive a stake into it or??? Could even drop a tracer wire down in there so you can "locate" it later...

Help with garage plans - Newbie

Mine was measured from the floor inside but there was a discrepancy in the height where they measured not that they ever did measure at all. The same question came up when I was planning and I got the same advice, and I'm glad. By the wording it sounds like height is to the peak, but my locale...

Help with garage plans - Newbie

You have to make sure you ask/understand where/how they are measuring. Is the 15' the overall height to peak or median height(half distance from top of wall to peak). I have 10' walls and can lift most vehicles full height. But the depth is where you will have the clearance issues. I have all...

    7 x 18 utility trailer.

I bought a 7x12 that has that setup, I think it's great. Below is a pic of the sides. One on each side makes for a convenient setup. I hauled it around TN with my ATV in the front and 2 cycles behind. I just unloaded whatever I wanted to ride without extra effort, worked out perfect. My other...

You can also use an IR thermometer to locate the lines before drilling.

    7 x 18 utility trailer.

I also solder my wire connections. You can use that brushable electrical dip stuff to help seal the connections. Some dielectric grease in the bulb sockets and plug keeps the wiring going for a long time.

painting OSB, what ya think about using Rustoleum??

I found stuff called Paint & Prime at Menards in a black 5 gal bucket for $25. It seems to work fine. Goes on a bit yellowish then dries a nice white. I used it as the primer and final paint. The price is unbeatable.

My new almost dream shop 25x32

So far it has been doing good. I do take precautions to protect it. I have put a few scratches in it. But with all the flake to break up the pattern. Nothing is really visible. I do have some additions to add now. I convinced the concrete guy to let me use his bobcat for the weekend so I...

    Shop wiring

Might I suggest some outlets above 7ft to be accessible above most wall cabinets. You could also switch half of the outlet or random outlets. Then you can easily power your favorite neon sign with an off switch. Or you can plug in cord reels, stereo, tv, wall art or a nice light up pic of your...

For those with TVs in the garage - Where did you put it?

For anyone planning on a TV mounting. I would recommend adding 2 runs of Cat6 from TV to a computer location. Using Cat6(recommended) can allow you to run HDMI with Baluns. Running an HDMI source from a computer is a great option for playing...music vids, movies, pics for parties or youtube vids...

    Motion Sensor Switch

I would check with your local electrical supply house, not HD or other big box. Those standard occupancy light switches are being used all over in commercial establishments with CFL and flourescents. They're available...just gotta find em.

Any ideas how to mount compressor high over man door?

I mounted mine about 4' off the floor. I welded a steel frame then put 1 1/2" of plywood on that, then lag bolted the feet through rubber isolators to the plywood. Steel frame has 5/16" by 4" lag bolts into the studs. Then there is a 1x1 square steel tube leg for support. Does it vibrate the...

    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT Honest Bob's 20X20

Yep as stated previously make sure you have the main grounded and connected properly. 20a circuits and 12 ga is great for a shop. Yes always try to stay near the center of the stud or other structural member so nails and screws are least likely to puncture. I recommend using nail plates...

All the info and pics is available in the link in my Sig. I used Epoxy-Coat in Assembly Blue with Black Charcoal grey and White flakes I was originally gonna use a dark blue with some accent flakes. But decided not to especially for the light reflection and looking dirty issue.

    Happy with your epoxy color

Yep, I like my color. I chose something other than grey, just because that's what everyone does. I think I have gotten more compliments on the floor than anything else.

    Wifey Needs Help Please!!

Yep a tv is a nice plus, you could buy a nice flat panel and a wall mount. Then spring for the wiring installation if he can't do it himself. Don't forget to add wiring from the tv to a shelf etc where a computer could be plugged in for displaying on the tv etc. Another related idea is a Stereo...

rough-in wiring for new shop overhead lights

You can put a gfci in the first box then wire the rest on load side. Then you only need one gfci per light circuit. You can also just put blank covers over boxes most of the time to satisfy the inspections.
