Why are Makita Batteries so much more Expensive than Everybody Elses?

The way to buy batteries is from eBay/marketplace from people who are splitting kits. I've never paid more than $50-$60 for a 5ah pack. They last a long time too

Harbor Freight’s ICON Pliers and Ratchets

You're exactly right. Outfits like Vevor and Yeswelder are moving into the space that HF used to own and will eventually push HF out of the welding/plasma cutting market completely. I don't understand why HF is allowing this to happen

    Stihl 039 Chainsaw Rebuild

That *****, I bet they sent out the wrong kit. Did you buy from Wolf Creek? I've had good luck dealing with them in the past. Hopefully they can sort it out

Harbor Freight’s ICON Pliers and Ratchets

I like the Icon pliers I picked up, but they're very bad about surface rusting here in the Gulf Coast. Functionality is still fine but they look like ****. Knipex have held up way better to the humidity.

    Level-1/4” per foot

You can also just raise one end of your current level by 1/4" and draw marks with a sharpie.

    Chainsaw Sharpening

Vevor sells a clone of the Oregon grinder for less than $100. I want to check it out but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. It looks much nicer than the harbor freight grinder for the $.

How hard is it to change car tires yourself?

Same here, local shop charges $20/tire to mount and balance. It's not worth the hassle to try it myself without the big equipment

    Makita Addiction Thread

I have that planer too, it's been a great tool 👍

    Chainsaw recommendation

So there's another option that's at least worth being aware of. There are Chinese companies selling clones of popular pro saws all over Amazon. A couple of months ago I picked up a "neotec" clone of the Stihl 038 magnum for cleanup after hurricane beryl. The thing is an absolute beast, I...

    Electric ratchet: worth it?

I already have a 1/4" impact driver that does most of what an electric ratchet would do. Plus it drives screws. I'd like to have the Makita ratchet but I would only use it in places the impact can't fit and I haven't run into that enough to justify it

    7 1/2" hole saw

Jig saw would be my choice. Or even a sawzall if the hole will be covered and neatness doesn't count

How to buy a water heater anode rod

What's the procedure for replacing the anode? Does the tank need to be drained? Just depressurized? Do you just shut off the inlet and open a tap downstream?

    Small engine mechanic question

Did you have much trouble with the hydro gear rebuild? I've seen several nice commercial mowers locally that would make great restoration projects. But I'm not sure I can repair weak teansaxles. I've heard a lot of horror stories about working on these

    Removal of counter tops

Avoid cutting it if you can, use a shop vac if you absolutely have to. The dust is nasty and will coat every surface in the house.

Why does Snap-On continuously make people rage?

I don't like their predatory lending/financing business model. Burying young mechanics in debt to juice them for years is a slimey way to make a buck.

    Icon Ratchets?

I was tempted to go upgrade to the Icon ratchets during this sale, but honestly I've been completely happy with the composite Pittsburgh ratchets I've been running for years. These things have been great

She doesn't understand dust, clutter, tools,..

It's definitely the tv remodel shows to blame. It looks so easy and fun! Nobody who hasn't done the work has any idea what's actually involved. My advice is to get her involved. After a few long days hanging sheetrock she won't complain about the dust ever again 👍

    Making the battery Makita won't.

Very interesting! That board and enclosure kit is a great find. How is the quality of the spring latch compared to Makita oem? Think I'll order a couple to play with

    Tachometer

Someone already asked the first time you posted... Is it for a permanent mount or for diagnostic purposes? What kind of engine? A 3600 rpm lawnmower, a 13000 rpm chainsaw, or something else?
