    Lang Tools

Anyone know anything about them or A&E Tools, their parent? They seem to be US made tools with the company beginning in the '30s and may be from Wisconsin. I just bought a set of thread chasers for my occasional DIY use and they seem to be pretty decent. From what I read, Kastar is part of...

Picked up an old Craftsman top box

I picked up this top Craftsman box this weekend for $30. From what I can tell, its from the late 50s. Do these boxes have a date code on them? Looks like its been through several colors in its life time and obviously the top lock has been replaced. It does fit nicely on top of my Remline...

Look with followed me home for $80

KRA 537 top from 1977 KR 557B from 1976 or 1978 (can't tell because of rust) I'm pretty stoked about it although its pretty rough. It's going to need some cleaning and some repairs, but it will be a cool box with a cool patina.

Ever heard of SnapOn repainting boxes

Does this sound right? I guess if you're willing to pay enough, anything is possible, but I can't imagine what the freight to and from the factory, let alone the labor would have cost. You think that you might get a new sticker if you went to that expense...

Where can I buy a rebuild kit for an IR-232 impact gun

Does anyone know a source for rebuild kits for these Ingersol Rand guns? I picked up a Cornwell branded gun today, IR-C232. I'd like to know if I can get parts, but I can't find a source by using google. It looks like Cornwell still sells the colored covers, but I don't see a mention of a...

$16 Home Depo 5 pc flex head ratcheting combo wrenches

I thought this worthy of a post. $16 for 10-15mm flex head wrenches. I had seen the shelf tag at my local store, but they were out and had to go to a few to find them. They seem to have more of the SAE wrenches available.

ID top box, vintage Snap-on Knockoff

I picked this up today. I was told it is a Snap-on, but I really don't think so. The gauge of the metal is too thin. I think they were just going from the sticker on front. Anyway, it does look a lot like some older Snap-on boxex, but there is no stamp on the back with a model number. Also...

    ID pos ratchet

I picked this up for a couple of bux. It has to be a Chinese ratchet. The build quality is awful. Its got the Pawl design and is held together by torx screws. Must have had a plastic handle at one point. Any ideas? Harbor Freight, Northern Tools? No ID that I can see on it.

    Silicone Paste question

I've seen references to the stuff, but the only product that I've seen that is actually called "Silicone Paste" is the stuff made by 3M. http://www.tooltopia.com/3m-automotive-08946.aspx?utm_source=nextag&utm_medium=cse&utm_term=MMM08946&utm_campaign=nextag_r1 Is regular old silicone grease in...

Is this US made Kobalt just Danaher made or is it the Williams nee Snap-On version?

Vintage Proto 3/8" extension with odd locking ball

I have not run into this before. Its not a ball bearing but some kind of cylindrical shaft mount on what appears to be a ball bearing. I think I could get it on a socket, but I'd never get off again. Is this normal? I've never seen one like it.

Proto Impact Sockets -- No Warranty?

I had to warranty an old Husky socket so I called Stanley (actually Husky and got Stanley) and they didn't have that socket in stock, so they sent me what turned out to be a Proto 30mm impact socket. I wasn't sure what I would be getting, but I was happy it was a Proto and it sure is a nice...

    How Its Made - Sockets

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=RtcYB-mW6i0&NR=1 If this has been posted before, I apologize. If not, this is kind of neat to see. Looks like each socket get the human touch at least once. Here's the video for ratchets: And tool boxes. combo wrench

    odd shape craftsman 1/2" wrench

I'm sure that this isn't really odd, but what's this called? I figure the purpose is to allow you to ratchet the open end. True?

    My new (used) $30 Vise

Was advertised as a 4" vise, but it is a Wilton 350 and has an arrowhead with a 5 in it. Made in USA cast into the vise below Wilton. There is no suffix after the 350. I don't know much about it, but I'm pretty happy. I would have preferred the 4" but so it goes. A little bit of surface...

Columbian Vise - Is this right?

This is a model 504 Columbian vise I'm thinking about driving to buy. Is this the way the jaws are supposed to look? I don't have any good pictures of the grips themselves, but it doesn't appear to me that there is a lot of texture on this one. Any idea how heavy this vise would be?

    Snap On Vintage top box

Where would I look for evidence that a repainted top box is a snap-on? This is one of those boxes that has the metal panel that covers the drawers and has a handle and lock in it. Are the drawers stamped somewhere?
