    depending on how deep the swirls are could you just skim coat the edges with something like durhams water putty or a light cement to smooth out the surface enough to lay the tile. the tile will cover it so chipping shouldnt be an issue if cement is used, might expand @ different rates though...

    i got confused i thought youwere talking about concrete dye used while mixing, ive used that many times. we used to pour basements walls with different brick mold patterns and colors. never used the brush on stain, if it ever peels it will look worse than a stained floor.

    ive heard comet cleanser works, have not tried it yet myself. sounds like a good excuse to epoxy your floors. might look into whatever solvent is used to clean floors prior to epoxy.

    trying to avoid the pit, thinking if the sink is mounted normal ht in counter and urinal is mounted, well, crotch high i may not need to bury it.

    think about adding outlets in the ceiling, they work great for retractable extension cords. try to plan out where your compressor/grinder/welder etc will be.

    Electrical question - metal receptacle boxes not grounded?

    i pigtailed my ground wire and looped a drywall screw around it and screwed thru the box into a stud, the boxes were flush mounted. my elec was happy with the set up and hooked all into the main panel for me. used pvc piping to metal boxes.

    oil based paint would make clean ups a breeze, drywall inperfections dont concern me terribly in the garage too much, the walls will inevitably get knicked up anyway, im pretty hard on my garage.
