1/4 in. impact driver or 3/8 in. impact wrench

Hi guys, I have been a automotive DIYer, and bought a Craftsman 1/2 in. Heavy Duty Impact Wrench. That led to buy some other Craftsman accessories because of the battery (vacuum and light). I've been wanting a smaller impact, and I've been looking at the 3/8 in. versions from many brands with...

Do you use wheel cribs to tighten your control arms ?

I think another way is to use the jack to lift the control arm/suspension until the car is barely off the jack stand, then tighten the stuff. I've done this a few times.

    Best "economy" impact socket set?

Another vote for Tekton. Big laser etched markings. Individual sockets available on Amazon. Great customer service (I needed a replacement wrench, and it only took one email to get the replacement). Especially right now Tekton is having a $15 off $50 on Amazon. I bought the deep and shallow...

Milwaukee 13" jobsite tool box = the perfect car wash caddy

Very nice use of the box. I currently have my basic car wash stuff in a cleaning cart/tray. But this looks more "proper" and much nicer! :D

    Thin Gloves from HD

Hi guys, I've been using these Grease Monkey gloves from Home Depot, and I really like them. They're thin enough to retain the feel, but thicker than disposable gloves, and also have plenty of grip. I usually use them for engine bay or interior work. They do wear after a few projects (holes in...

    Plastic socket rails

If you don't need the twist lock feature, Craftsman ones are a lot more sturdier than HF plastic ones. When you have sockets on the rail and pick one end up, it doesn't flex like HF.

    32mm wrench for fan clutch

It's for an E39 540i. Looks like there's more room in this one than some other models, that's why I'm hoping a normal wrench would fit. I see a lot of "BMW fan clutch tools" sold on Ebay for about $20. Should I just get that and be done with it (assume it will do the job and not break)? Sent...

    32mm wrench for fan clutch

Hi guys, I need a 32mm wrench for a fan clutch on my car. I don't want to buy the special tool because I want to use this wrench for other things if needed. It seems like the only places that offer singles now are Home Depot, Lowes, and Amazon. I'm undecided between the Husky from Home Depot...

    Battery Impact Wrench

I've had that impact wrench (Heavy Duty, 300 ft lbs version) for a year, and been very happy with it. I use it on lug nuts, axle nuts, suspension bolts, and it hasn't let me down since. It also led me to buying more C3 tools (handheld vacuum, light, etc.). I bought my dad a Ridgid drill/driver...

Who has the Gearwrench XL Gearbox double box end ratcheting wrenches?

I bought a set a couple months back and has been pretty happy with it so far. Made in Taiwan. I initially set out to find a non ratcheting double box end wrench set because I was obsessed whenever I saw EricTheCarGuy used his. Seems like only Snap On has that set here. There are a couple sets...

    Lang Rethreader Sets

Hi guys, So last weekend I messed up a ball joint stud using a ball joint separator (there's a thread for that). The stud was a M12x1.25, which apparently wasn't in my tap and die set, or my dad's. I had to go around looking for a die to repair the thread. At that moment, only Sears had the 40...

Proper Way to Use Ball Joint Separator

Thanks for all the good tips and info. Next time when I have to use this I'll definitely be more confident. But that loud pop was really scary though, especially when I wasn't expecting it.

    Vessel Screwdrivers

I learned about the Vessel made in Japan Craftsman Ball Grip screwdrivers from this forum. Managed to get a hold of one from Sears, and loving it so far. The tip is pretty strong, two sizes in one screwdriver, and the ball grip is very comfortable and quick.

Proper Way to Use Ball Joint Separator

I was replacing the lower control arms on my 2003 Honda Accord this past weekend. I thought it would be fairly straightforward and quick, until something was messed up and had to spend the rest of the day fixing that. I used a ball joint separator, the 3 prong press type, not the pickle fork...

    Manufacturer of Capri Tools?

Another one is the automatic wire stripper. Most brands seem to have that same tool, including Irwin, Neiko, Capri Tools, etc. I went with the Capri Tools one. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B01018CYV8/?tag=atomicindus08-20 Sent from my SM-T800 using Tapatalk

What to spend Sears Surprise Points on

Hi guys, So I recently kept running into a problem, and I'm pretty sure many people do too. I've been getting a lot of surprise points from Sears (usually $5 for $10 purschase, $8 for $12, $10 for $20, etc.), and I've been trying to find what's worth buying because I don't want the points to go...

Neiko and Tekton. Junk or adequate?

Tekton offers different sets at different price points. This is their better set: http://www.amazon.com/TEKTON-18792-Polished-Combination-Wrench/dp/B00OZJN3PQ/ref=pd_sim_469_8?ie=UTF8&refRID=1MMSG3N6HSS2JWMKRX4W

Neiko and Tekton. Junk or adequate?

I've used Tekton impact socket and wrenches and they're good for me as a DIYer, in terms of quality, value, and price. Had to use Tekton's customer service once, and it was hassle free. Since we're talking about these brands, I want to add that Capri Tools is also very similarly priced and good...

    Tool chest HF or Costco

The Costco seems pretty nice too, but I think the layout kills it for most mechanics. I was looking at those two as well, but eventually went with the Husky 52 in. 11 drawer box, 22 inches deep (not the symmetrical cheaper 10 drawer) for $399. Might be worth taking a look. Also, you can use a...

    Craftsman T-Handle 3/8" Drive

Got some surprise points at Sears again, so looking for something good to buy. I played with this Mach 3/8" Drive T-Handle in store and it seems very nice. Made in Taiwan. It has drives on both ends, so looks like I can use one to break free the fastener, then switch to the other end to spin it...
