Pair of CNC Plasma Cut Drag Bikes

I've probably put more miles on Kawasakis (two H1 triples, and a Z1 with a big bore kit (later an RC Eng. turbo Z1) than on British bikes or Harleys. However, i have fonder memories of the Triumphs and Harleys of the late '50s and '60s. By the way, if anyone has an interest in how I made my...

Pair of CNC Plasma Cut Drag Bikes

First bike in 2nd row down is a Harley 45WL. Third and fourth bike in 4th row are a Norton Manx and Triumph Thunderbird. Of course, my cutouts may not be correct enough to tell.

Pair of CNC Plasma Cut Drag Bikes

I trace over a photo in CorelDraw, and export the dxf files to my driver software. So far, I've done 20. Just did the twin engine Triumph, so it's not in the pic below.

Sonny Routt's double Triumph engine bike, & Clem Johnson's Vincent "Barn Job." They are each about 20" long.

    Compact basement shop crane

The real heavy stuff stays in the Garage. Most of the equipment in the basement was brought in by the moving company when we moved into the house. Some items, like the drill presses, belt sander, work benches, etc., I built or assembled in the basement. It is a walkout.

    Compact basement shop crane

I got tired of straining my back picking up large vises, grinders, tool boxes, etc. and decided to fabricate a small crane to do the heavy lifting for me. The unit sits on locking casters, and is narrow and short enough to fit through a doorway. However, it is wide and tall enough to straddle a...

Pantograph Plasma Shape Cutting Machine Build

While most shop owners would like to have a CNC plasma cutting system, many do not have either the funds or the necessary space for one. A pantograph machine is an affordable alternative than can produce brackets and other relatively simple shapes with the same cut quality. Pictured below is...

Getting a lift.. put the wife on notice!

Not sure about Taiwan's future at this point. If China moves against them, who knows how Taiwan's manufacturing will be affected? Look at the lack of chip production has affected our automobile industry. Parts may become unavailable, or quality may go down the drain. Just a thought.

Getting a lift.. put the wife on notice!

It didn't come overnight! Here's what my shop looked like until I was over 55 years old (1st photo). Also, everything doesn't have to be in the same place. Most of my stuff is in my basement (2nd & 3rd photos).

Getting a lift.. put the wife on notice!

A lot of equipment can be squeezed into a garage as long as you move the car(s) out when you use it. I put a Bridgeport mill on an angle between two car bays, one of which has a lift. If I need a bit more operating room, I just raise the lift. I do have the luxury of a 15' ceiling.

Getting a lift.. put the wife on notice!

Lathes are longer than they are deep. Is it possible to locate the lathe along the wall so as to clear the lift when it is lowered? Raise the lift to get working room in front of the lathe. I do this with a horizontal band saw in my garage.

Getting a lift.. put the wife on notice!

I read about a guy who wanted to put a 7 foot tall Bridgeport mill in his basement, but he had something like a 6 1/2 foot ceiling. His wife ended up getting a new island in her kitchen.

I'll do it! Anyone else have suggestions? Just vintage Brit. or US bikes - I prefer to do bikes that look like bikes and not fiberglass experiments.
