Polishing a turd. Cheap drill bits with Ti-N coating

I have a lot of sets of drills, and looked at these coated bits. To me this is nothing more than a selling gimmick for the average homeshop guy. Like, re grind the drill to bring it up to specs, and you have ground away the coating, so why buy them ? I have some sets of offshore bits that...

Roughly date a small craftsman drill press?

What's the matter with brazing it? Being cast it will need to be heated before, during then alowed to cool slowly wrapped in insulation of some sort. It also can be arc welded, but the same heating process must be used, with special rod used for cast. It should weld ok, either method,,, unless...

Roughly date a small craftsman drill press?

Part #2 looks like a locking collar, which should be cast. No problem take it to a welder, he will grind the piece out and weld it back up. Probably work.

How do you mechanics up north stay warm???

2oolhound is correct, i'm north of most of you, and north of me again there are thousands working in -40-50+ temps in gold and diamond mines. Mechanics there don't rebuild engines at those temps, but they do get service calls on huge heavy equipment . Clothing is the key, and a place to stop...

Convert propane tank into compressor air tank ??

The Amish shops that run air tools mostly have those big horizontal propane tanks for compressed air storage. Compressor is usually run by a diesel engine. Not sure what gallonage those big tanks are, i have heard them called Bullet tanks often in my area.

    Vintage Black & Decker Drill

Re: Vintage Black & Decker Drill As posted i have had that same drill forever, worked ok for light duty. I found the chuck to be real cheaply made, and the cord just way too stiff, unless you were working in 90F weather! Bad plastic coating on it of some kind, always a PITA to wrap up to put away.

What to check on a used Lablond Regal lathe?

On that leblond if you are wondering what year it is, the serial # is stamped into the end of the ways, (tailstock end,) email that to Leblond, and they will be able to tell you the manufacturing date and usually who it was first sold to.
