    2019 Lowe's deals/sales/clearance thread

I just got confirmation that 50 boxes of the Power Pro screws are ready for pick up at my local store. I'll use them all in my shop build. Thanks for the heads up!

    Site plan drawing

I learned on AutoCAD way back in the day, but once you get used to the UI, Sketchup is fast and easy - even for a site plan. Camera | Perspective (turn it off) then Camera | Standard Views | Top Bingo. You're now working "in" 2D.

    Objective advice on building shop/garage

The big online companies are more or less middlemen. They hire local builders to put up their buildings. If you ask around locally with those who have buildings similar to what you are looking at (steel/pole building/stick built), you should be able to find a good local builder and cut out the...

    Plans

My plans were $1200 from the engineer S&S uses - he's in Panama City, so may be swamped for a while. He was likely that cheap because he knows pole buildings and only had to modify some existing plans. The details were lacking, though, so unless you're OK with that, I'd keep looking. I'm having...

    Gallon of WD-40

But if you shake it up, you get a good mix of sarcasm and irony. :bounce:

    Gallon of WD-40

What do you use your WD-40 for? That will help narrow down the product. For loosening frozen parts, I prefer a 50/50 acetone & automatic transmission fluid mix. I squirt it from a used saline bottle (clearly labeled, since I use the same bottles for other things).

    Plans

You might be able to find/use an online company to draw plans for you, but make sure they know about the wind loads for your area. It's 140MPH for me, and I was required to have engineer-stamped plans. After a lengthy search (!), I contacted Surplus & Salvage in Chipley, who gave me the name of...

need help finishing a pole barn

Here's what I would do: Place and anchor a post for the center of each gable end. That would require cutting a notch for each post in the slab. You'll have to figure out how to tie the post to your end trusses, but with a bit of creativity, it should be possible. Then, you'd have 12' spacing on...

Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Arrived at an estate sale at opening time, but a couple local resellers got there early and were scooping everything into their piles. They missed this.

    Custom Electrical Prints?

NOTHING in my engineer-drawn-and-stamped plans was that detailed. I've had to figure out just about everything as I go. Electrical is easy compared to the rest.

Jib Crane attached to rolling table?

I'm in a very similar situation as you after a broken shoulder surgery and four broken vertebrae from an accident. I use an engine hoist for things 200# plus, and I picked up a used Hoyer lift on CL for items up to 200#. It's quite a bit easier to maneuver and use than the engine hoist. I know...

Hello, longtime reader, first time poster, finally have my own garage

Two thoughts: 1. At certain stages of life, a house is temporary. Sometimes "temporary" could be 10+ years, but it's not a lifetime commitment. Embrace that, and move. 2. I prefer putting more thought into buying a house than just buying one by default. You chose the house you're in to rent...

    Insulation Metal Building - Alabama

Tyvek would have probably worked better against condensation than double bubble (since it's less likely to break down from the heat) under the roofing. I'm using it under the sidewall metal. I'll do traditional insulation once the building is closed in.

    Insulation Metal Building - Alabama

The bubble wrap will do almost nothing for insulation. I added a layer under my roof metal to cope with condensation on the underside of the roof panels in the winter, but that's less of an issue down south than keeping cool in the summertime (I'm in NWFL). I don't know of a product that can be...

Depending on if Simpson ties are required, I recommend a palm nailer. Nothing makes installing ties quick, but a palm nailer makes it easier.
