Two Mr Cool DIY 36,000 BTU Mini Split placement in 40x40x17 building

I'm currently building a 24 X 44 X 13 garage that will have R-38 in the ceilings behind drywall, and R-13 in the walls (slump block, firred, insulated, drywall). Insulated man and garage doors. GC says his AC guy says 12K BTU is what some calculator program is telling him is all that is...

    CoThG's Toolbox question thread

When I was 8 or 9 YO my dad showed me the amortization statement for his house mortgage. "Notice how the principle amount paid gets bigger and the interest amount paid gets smaller with each successive monthly payment against the loan". That made such an impact on me and taught me a lesson...

    Pre-wiring a man cave

Hi all, I am converting a 20'X20' carport into a heated / AC'd living space, mostly for use as a "mancave". Floorspace currently open to the elements will be bricked up and finished as a normal interior. It is connected to the rest of the living space. I'd really appreciate feedback on how...

    Low Profile Mini Fuse

I had a relative spend > $2000 in repairs, flights, etc. when this went bad on him during a cross country trip. Replaced the fuel pump, hotel expenses, more, all due to bad fuse #27. Do the fix even if it's not root cause of current problems. Took me about an hour and $30.

    Low Profile Mini Fuse

Be advised there is a known issue/field fix for 2010-2014 F150 involving fuse #27. Seems the fuse socket is undersized (physical, not amperage) for the load the fuel pump can put on it sometimes. I replaced mine proactively in my 2011 F150. See...

    Concrete encased electrode. Ufer Rod

I had my slab poured 6 days ago. This is what Pima County (just outside Tucson city limits) requires. #6 copper clamped to rebar, then up through the pour to eventual subpanel located on inside. This specific piece of rebar was probably 12' long and tied by steel cables to all the other...

    Help with Garage/Carport Options

So you would not pay more for a piece of property with a decent shop/garage than one without? I would, and my guess is a lot of others would also.

Pouring a concrete slab over an existing slab

I am converting an attached 20' X 20' carport (two sides currently finished, one side has no wall, one side has garage door) into another room which will be considered as part of the interior living space (entertainment room). It will then have brick walls added on 2 sides. Foundations are...

    Are Canons A Fab Topic?

Call me skeptical. I hope you don't end up maiming/killing yourself in this folly. I knew a couple of brothers in neighborhood I grew up in who came very close to being dead playing with these things.

Looking for a one person brake bleeder setup!

I bought something similar to this last year. Worked fine. You do need an air compressor however. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08MDRD1RJ/?tag=atomicindus08-20

    Snapon ,everything backordered

That 'paradigm shift' has been going on since the late 1990's. What's f'd everything up is the need to fight covid and thus plant shutdowns, etc. The ripple effects affect every aspect of our supply chain.

Anyone ever extend a stove gas line a few inches?

It was me. I sit corrected :) I didn't know enclosures existed. Since natural gas is lighter than air, I'd only do an enclosure if the pipe was coming in from the bottom, and not from the top. Just me being ****-retentive.

Anyone ever extend a stove gas line a few inches?

You don't want to recess the valve into the wall. If the valve leaks the whole house goes boom. If you leave it as is, at least you might smell the gas before boomtime.

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT Eric's Tucson Garage Project

I had a pissed off Pima County inspector who was completely useless to me, for remodeling work I did by myself 12-13 years ago. He failed me on a couple of sub-permits but would not tell me why. "Not my job to teach you building codes." I complained to the county and they asked me to file a...
