    beginner welding projects

that's a pretty neat idea, one I may borrow down the road. I would maybe go 12-18" per arm. only addition I would make is it riding on a vertical tube with through holes every 1'. so I can use it low, or raise up high if working on otherside of a vehicle/trailer/etc. good job

How to size hydraulic wheel motors?

my father build a hydraulic center pivot machine. motors @ each wheel. his top speed is about 5mph... and it is sloooow. no help on traction, motor size, etc. but I hate using that thing because of slow it is. handy for small jobs in one small spot, but if you need to move from A to B often and...

Timber Post and Beam Entrance Maintenance

knowing the kind of wood would help. could you find out what the previous owners have done/used? if they used oil based, it could cause anything water based not to penetrate well. or maybe it's been left to age untreated, in which case you have lots of options.

    Furnace Filter Cover?

I've one house with a cover (current home) and one without. Old house the filter was very snug and I had to add a tape "flap" to use to pull it out. This place it is loose, but the cover ensure less air is sucked around that gap. essentially you want air being sucked from the return air vents...

Worried my barn will be condemned- permit strategy?

is the loft "cool" or will you ever expect to use it? if the beams are large, and the wood is clean, you could probably tear it down, salvage the wood for either re-use... or for sale. atleast the beams, may be worth something, and all that could be added to your budget. you can build a nice...

Looking for an air compressor motor

it's better to use a "cheap ChiCom POS" VFD? You may be buying from a US distributor, but the VFD was built overseas. Finding a 3hp single phase motor won't be hard, as has been shown already in this thread.

    Nutts Enclosed Trailer project

Re: Nutts Trailer project any reason you're only going with 20lbs propane, opposed to 30lbs? our TT had dual 20's and I'll be swapping to dual 30's in spring. different uses, but that extra bit is handy.

Beware of insulating under your concrete floor.

you're convinced this geofoam provided enough buoyancy to; overcome the friction of moving past the walls & adjacent slab AND floated the foam above the water line AND floated the concrete AND floated the car AND provided enough buoyancy to crush a vehicles A B & C pillars (which is no easy...

Beware of insulating under your concrete floor.

wow, is this really that hard to understand? again, imagine an engine cylinder... this "floating slab" is the piston, but instead of round, it is square. the walls and adjacent slab are the 4 cylinder walls the square "piston" is travelling in it can't tilt, same way a piston wouldn't tilt...

Beware of insulating under your concrete floor.

what point are you trying to argue? concrete floats, that's been established this situation was a combination of foam & concrete which in this circumstance can and did appear to "float" while the foam was the major player, if there was no foam and there was enough water pressure below the...

Beware of insulating under your concrete floor.

you may want to have another look yourself. see the person walking in ankle deep water? notice the ~3' of combined foam & concrete? are you getting it yet?

Beware of insulating under your concrete floor.

no, you're looking at the slab as just a free floating slab. with little/no room for water to overflow passed the slab at the walls... it becomes a vessel of sorts and has to go somewhere. think of an engine cylinder... moved slowly air can pass by the rings, but if moving fast enough it...

    Advice please!

well there are plenty of tools that can use that air, air sander being one of them. having too much air would never be a problem, and in a shop that size I would build a room for it with intake air from outside. 2x4 sill & header and 2x3 studs staggered for inside/outside walls (quieter design)...

Beware of insulating under your concrete floor.

having dug a few graves, I know concrete casks can & will float if the hole floods, even with coffins in them (extreme case). while the foam certainly helped this situation, it wasn't the only reason it happened. as stated a few times now, combo foam & concrete "floating"

    Drill press capacities- advise me

not what I was thinking when I read "pocket holes" I would look into something that leaves a clean "center free" hole opposed to using a fortsner bit. end mill maybe?

    Drill press capacities- advise me

why are you drilling 2k worth of pocket holes that size? just curious what you're making that that is your only option.

Latest fab. project - downhill racer

re: aerodynamics would be miniscule improvement in grand scheme, but maybe some "wings" to cover exposed rear axle and part of front axle. would clean up the look a bit too. otherwise, this thread has me looking into local races for my boys (x3)... sadly it seems there are none. edit further...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

built a little underwing storage cabinrt for my tablesaw - used what I had on hand, already helped declutter the shop by giving a few pieces a place of their own. just installed the router wing yesterday - haven't used it yet, and noticed after taking picture that I installed it backwards...
