    Why no rockwool insulation?

I'm all for the Roxul, it's all I use/will use, and for all the positive reasons given. but, more importantly. the quoted post above, may be one of the bests posts I've ever read... on the whole interweb! someone on the internet; acknowledged their error, admitted their mistake, provided an...

    Drilling Aluminum

if you want a straight hole you need a good guide, or you need to use the drill press. handheld drilling will never be perfect.

    Ceiling joist strengthening

if it's that old I'd guess they are true 2x4's so a bit better than what you buy today. if you want to walk/store up there I'd go with 2x6. PL & screwed to each existing 2x4 don't forget bridging, especially with the 24"OC

    5X10 Trailer Build

if it's possible, use a jack that allows you to drop the tailgate of your truck while still hitched. in your first post, #1 and #2 couplers have that space for a jack mounted in that hole... but any jack there (that I've seen) prevents a tailgate from being lowered all the way. our pup up &...

Receiver hitch tube, adding hole and strength?

if you have the tow points that far away from the face of the bumper (which is normal) why not have the hitch tube sticking out enough that the hole is on the outside of the bumper?

    Cabinet Saw station build

for now, leave it as it is use it, make stuff, then worry about where/why/how you want any further additions. and after all that $$ spent, what do you plan for dust collection? I'd put more time/effort/$$ in DC before any other toys.

    Canadian Buffalo 18

one of my others, the arc is almost complete!! shameful indeed I'm not worried about the foot feed parts, if they pop up great. Otherwise if I'm bored maybe I'll look into fabbing them. OWWM and VM are great sources, thanks. Ya, the paint isn't my favourite, but it matches my 15, so once...

    Canadian Buffalo 18

Well, my quest drill press is found, and resting in my shop. I've had a Buffalo 15 for a couple years now. Works great, and have since installed a 2 speed (single phase) motor for easy switching, between pulleys & motors speeds it has 10 speeds I believe. Recently picked up a Canadian Blower &...

Scoring the Bottom of 5/4 decking

cup down, screw it in the amount of effort scoring each board, x2, is wasted. I get the reasoning for doing it before, as stated nails -vs- screws... but even then that's a lot of time to waste on a "what if"

So all these joints require caulking or is there not supposed to be caulking applied?

just so's ya know, but caulking sticks better to paint/primer than it will to drywall paper. and adding to what someone mentioned above, if you need caulking to cover gaps, there is a bigger issue there. caulking should be used sparingly. if you're using it to stop air infirtration that means...

that's it, just waiting for paint, and last coats of oil. once I install some new kitchen floors for her (paying job) I can install the island. Can't wait to see it in place and in use.

    kitchen island build

Final assembly & glue up. All edges are just chamfered with a 45* bit, legs are same, just deeper cut and stopped to add a bit of "oooh ahhh" bottom side of countertop, she didn't want the dowels visible from the topside.

Back to the base framework Up until the very end, the bottom shelf was raised. Original "picture" example was like that, but I didn't like it. Once the island was attached to the floor the attachment method would be visible, and too easy for things to roll under and be difficult to retrieve...

onto the top When adding BB ends, ensure you leave overhang so you can remove the ends while dryfitting! I almost forgot to do that.

    kitchen island build

This is a project I was asked to build for a girl I work with. She helped the wife and I when our 3rd boy arrived with some freebies that were rather valuable. I told her if she wanted any work done just name it. she paid for materials, labour and all else was on me. Her request started with a...

    Sump Pump needs

as someone mentioned, no adjustment can change the flow. 3x and hour is dependant on how much water is coming, had little to do with float settings (well within reason) 1. my pedistal pump is in a pail (with 1" holes cut 1" up from bottom) 2. the pump itself is on 2 bricks 3. #1 & #2 are to...
