    Steel thickness calculator

I would say that 1/4 is heavy enough the trick will be a fastener that will not pull out.

Sorry I can't help with info but a vintage motor would be great on that but please use a modern tank, to many old tanks have weak spots.

Drill bits recommendations? for drilling out a broken bolt

Yup a left hand drill just smaller than the bolt, grind it flat if you can center punch it and if you can use a stubby bit to start the hole, then switch to your left hand bit and use a slow speed with as much pressure as you can, most likely it will come out before you drill all the way through.

    Build or Buy?

I can see the need to put paying jobs in front of making a tool or tool accessory look good, I also agree that spending time with your kids is way more important then polishing stuff, as they get older you will have more time to finish stuff I know I have, my youngest almost 16 enjoys working on...

    Build or Buy?

I can understand that, Time is one of the major factors in any build/buy decision. I can also understand the get it done enough to work and have been there many times myself, hence the reason why there is no corner trim on the shop, just never made time to do it. I found that one thing that...

    Saw Cut... Necessary?

Heated spaces don't need control joints, if the ground under a well prepped slab never freezes the chances of major movement is greatly reduced. I did not put any control joints in my shop because I new that it would be heated.

    torpedo heaters

Yes if you have good ventilation, I have both a propane and kerosene versions, I used the propane when building the shop and if I didn't open the doors a bit I would get a head ache. I used the kerosene one to heat a 5000 sq foot shop I used to have same deal, open a door and window to get fresh...

Should I be concerned about dust collector?

Not much help here but my Dust collector is outside the shop in its own little lean to type shed. I have never noticed a big change in temp but I have infloor heat so even having the overhead open for a bit does not cool it down much.

    Light duty Jib crane

Thanks, I have found that I prefer the video's where they use high speed to show most if not all the process in a shorter time frame for this kind of build, so that is what I did as well.

    Light duty Jib crane

Well we got it set on Thursday, was way easier than I thought it would be, the funky base turned out to be the part that made things smooth, we put a 2 inch strap under the mid base and with a guy on either side they lifted it while I guided it in place, a bit of fussing with the nuts to plumb...

    Lathe Bench Design

From my understanding carbide insert tools like higher speeds and heavy cuts, so your lathe will not react well to them. That being said I have seen many people get great results anyway. I am working on a design for a new bench for my sheldon lathe and have been wondering what features it...
