major paint problems on car- need suggestions

For metallic a clear coat will improve the top coat durability and appearance. PPG- great paint Yes you can sand with 600 wet dry/ sand wet using flat rubber and pad. watch corners as you can cut to metal. The blush is just poor application of the metallic.

Forget the silly drill..Buy a small pack of 320/400 automotive sandpaper. fold it in half 3 x and wet sand with water from a hose.. you will have better results than a drill sanding pad.. :)

    Cordless drill sanding bit?

Unless it is damaged- just hand or DA wet sand with 320 wet/dry paper. An automotive epoxy primer sealer is sprayed next or apply a SEM aerosol primer sealer. Then Wet sand with 600 wet/dry with a sanding pad to smooth for top coat. Unless you are applying paint with flex additive- let a body...

    Cordless drill sanding bit?

It is Very easy to gouge a plastic bumper (cover) with a sanding disk. Is the bumper plated steel? You may be better off using a hand sanding block or try a friends DA electric sander with 120-180 grit. No need to remove all the paint--it's your best primer :)

best way to move a lathe

Here is a PDF manual from Leblond. See page 8 for factory info on lifting. I agree the spindle is a very strong part of the lathe. it is also the most precise portion for cutting concentricity. http://neme-s.org/Shaper%20Books/LeBlond%2015%20and%2019%20Inch%20Regal%20Lathe/LeBlond%20Manual.pdf

best way to move a lathe

Rent a pallet jack. 3/4" plywood or pallet. or Use two rolling dollies to support each end at two pairs of legs. Rent a panel truck with a rear lift.. have everything setup so the rental is only 1/2 day or 4 hours to save $. I'D ADVISE AGAINST USING THE SPINDLE OR CHUCK IN DANGER OF BENDING THEM.

    Spring metal types- need insight/help

a few tips- more coils equal less spring rate given same wire size. you can get torsion springs with bare free ends. Maybe look at mcmaster carr. torsional and compression springs actually twist along the wire length so paint can crack or peel. Use of stainless steel helps dealing with rust...

    gluing metal to rubber

Go to a bike shop or auto tire shop and see if they have some tire patching glue or Bicycle Tubular Tire adhesive- identical to what you are doing. Other option is Urethane Gorilla Glue- just beware it can expand alot on sides. Wire brush and remove any rust/paint off the rim. Take a rope and...

    Need A Spray Gun Rec

fyi, spaying household interior or exterior paint requires use of much higher pressure airless guns due to the thick viscosity. Here is a few line of pro level spray guns for stains, lacquers, waterborne or solvent HVLP. Sharpe (finex) Sata- great finish guns requiring lower CFM Devilbiss...

    Dial indicator suggestions

Lastly if you cut it down by lathe- place in lathe and set the cutter close to side. Then you can scribe a line along the side with the bed crank to align the tail shaft back to same orientation. Perhaps minimizes any imbalance and assure better lineup. Definitely rebalance.
