    Torque wrench storage settings

I inadvertantly left my Tekton 24330 click type torque wrench sitting in the drawer all wound up to 75 ft-lbs. It's a pretty new wrench. On the handle it says to store at 10 ft-lbs. I'm hoping I did not mess up the calibration. Does anybody have an idea if I have caused some internal damage...

Adding leverage arm to motorcycle stand

I'm looking for ideas to attach, on a temporary basis, an additional leverage handle on a motorcycle lift. The lift I have is pretty cool. It helps me spin a bike around inside the garage. However, it's a little short and on my heavier kawasaki it takes a lot of heft to tilt it up and at the...

    The right pair of pliers

There's got to be a special pair of pliers just for these kind of wire hose clamps. They are all over my motorcycle and for years I've been wrestling with using regular pliers and a crazy twist action to open it up all the way. And then it only works 20% of the time. There's got to be a better way.

    Vintage Craftsman Air Hammer

I have this laying around, i think it was a dumpster dive. Is it worth anything to anybody?

    Drywall anchor repair

Kind of a garage question. Unless of course you have a bathroom in your garage. The toilet roll hanger mounting anchors have come loose. One of the holes is pretty messed up. I could just stuff some mud in there. Sand and re-drill it, but I don't think that's going to be very strong. Any other...

Removing years of patina on vintage Stanley square

I've used a number of methods to clean old tools and parts. This has got me stumped. I have a nice vintage Stanley square that I found at the bottom of one of my drawers as I was moving from the old garage to the new shop. I'd like to clean this up enough to see the scale on the square. Any...

Freshening up oil and grease soaked workbench

I picked up this Uline workbench off Marketplace. The top is solid except it's soaked with oil and grease. I've cleaned off workbenches before with bleach and a power washer and they've turned out okay. Wondering if there's any other ways to spruce this up without sanding it all the way through...

    Busted Craftsman Ratcheting Combo Wrench

I've got a set of these Craftsman ratcheting combo wrenches. The 8mm decided not to ratchet anymore. The center piece spins fine, except in both ways. Yeah, yeah, lifetime warranty. Except you can only replace ONE wrench and they don't sell them individually. At least at the ACE Store I...

    Hanging pliers on pegboard

How do you guys hang your pliers on pegboard? I build a new workbench and I have pegboard that I hang my tools on. Mostly the go-to stuff that I'm always using. Tool boxes for the other stuff. What's the best gadget to hang pliers with? I've used a couple of methods and have not been happy...

    Naked or stained?

I realize this is largely personal preference. I'm torn between staining new workbench or just coating it with Laquer. The top is going over double Husky black 46" boxes with a 2x4 frame around it. I've surfed many of the threads to get ideas and thought I'd hit you all up for your opinion...

    Workbench leg joint help

I'm building a workbench around 2 Husky 46" boxes. I need to have a cross member just inside the legs to support the boxes. I had planned on using Simpson tie brackets. However the bracket is between the legs and the extra cross member. I'm looking for ideas to build this joint, out of...

    How tall is your workbench

I realize this is personal preference. I'm used to a bench top that is 38" tall. Yet, with a new dual 46" box setup my height is changing and it's complicating how I frame out the entire unit. How tall is your bench? What is the consensus about a comfortable ergonomic height for working? Image...

    Need a structural engineer

I'm building a workbench with two 46in boxes side by side. I'm going to set them in the frame of the workbench 'ala @Steevo style. Do you think I can get by with 2x4 lengthwise underneath them or should I go with sistering two together or use a 4x4 frame? I'd like to get by with just 2x4s if...

Finishing the top of the workbench

I'm looking to build a new workbench. I've got two 42" boxes (HD on sale, $330) and I'd like to make a bench up to 16' long. I have not decided how yet (accepting ideas). Likely will be either a laminated piece of two slabs of plywood or someting out of 2x6's. The wood bench top that will...

    Unconventional Spot for Electric heater

Is something like this safe to just put on the floor in the garage? I'm looking to get something as an auxiliary heater to my future mini split in the new shop.

Epoxy did not lay down so great

As the title refers to, the floor that was installed in my new shop did not come out that great. It's kind of hard to see from the pictures but there's bubbles and surface irregularities on the entire floor. It was only a two-coat process, first the primer, then a standard epoxy. Part of this...

    Square holes in the ceiling

Having some issues with my new shops ceiling Looks like the electrician and the drywall guys didn't coordinate well. After light we're installed I'm left with this. Any ideas to block off some spare boxes and the four with wires?

Relocating the interior unit of minisplit

I'm looking to install a mini split in the new shop. The wall is insulated and sheetrocked. I'm thinking that at some point I want to install some shiplap or brick vineer on the wall where it is planned to go. How hard is it to loosen the interior unit, let it hang for a while as the final wall...

    Looking for trim ideas

The new shop is coming along really well. Walls have been painted. Ceilings painted and the floors been done. Now I can move in. There is a storage loft that extends halfway over the length of the shop. I laid down some cheap carpeting to help make sliding boxes around a little easier. Now I...

Help me size new Mini Split

I'm in the finishing stages of a new shop. I'm in the Chicago area so I need a cold version of whatever I get. I wanted to validate my guess on what size to get. The whole place is insulated. My shop is 16x36, has a lofted section halfway down the long side. The lofted ceiling is 9ft and the...
