Outlaw, that proto pickle fork is ****. Jealous.
Of course, they could put that square plomb/proto handle on the end of about anything and I'd think it was ****.

All those from having off on Friday, Finally went out yesterday to get the girlfriend her fix and we hit a professional estate sale (sale started Thurs) I already had been to. Looked to see if anything was left or I perhaps overlooked in the basement. Was about to leave empty handed thank god  but the tool sales guy is jokingly yet seriously begging me to buy stuff so I eyeballed a Kennedy 620 chest full of **** with $75 tag on it. He says fawk that rips the tag off and says $10 ! Sold !.........I didn't want it and didn't need it since I already have my grandfather's but it came home with me. The door is out of the photo. Just needs a little cleaning up.

Guys I think I need to take a break for a bit. I hit 4 big tool sales in a tiny few block radius over 2 days. Fun finding everything but then it gets to the point where I get stuff home and it feels like work. Once in a while I go a bit overboard and get overwhelmed with this stuff. Not to mention my wallet took a hit.
Here are some of my new finds. I'm leaving out about 3/4 of what I brought home. Too much to go through and I just plain overdid it this time.

Here we go:

In the first picture what's the unique looking ratchet?

I only had time to stop by one sale yesterday and by the time I got there it was almost all cleared out. Still grabbed a few things for a total of $3!

I should have posted this last week (don't "think" I did), but my most recent find for a whole $2 Canadian ($1.62 US at today's exchange rate) at the local flea market. Proto Canada speed wrench.

Already have it halfway apart and cutter head soaking in some kroil to remove from shaft. Thanks for the tip. I'll search old threads to see how they did it.

I've wanted one of those for a long time. I used to do high end finish carpentry and they work awesome for doors. Good score

This, holy **** you and Rick killed it!!

Well, July is right around the corner, so naturally snow-blowers come to mind. I currently have a 5hp 20in Ariens that runs awesome, and it's this time of year that I keep my eyes open for any deals on CL. Well to my surprise, a 7hp, 24in Ariens popped up 15min. away from me on the cheap. Lucky for me, the seller called me back first, so I ran over and picked it up.
The seller told me he was retiring to Arizona, so naturally I asked if anything else was for sale. He had a newer Craftsman band saw I had no need of, but just before I left, out of the corner of my eye, I saw an aluminum workmate which Ive been on the lookout for for the past couple months(thanks GJ). Iasked him if he wanted to sell it, he said sure, make me an offer. I offered 40, and he accepted it. It's been repainted, but it operates very smoothly, so I'm happy.

I forgot to post my new wooden "creeper" that I picked up at the curb 2 weeks ago. I used it almost immediately while replacing the passenger door window regulator on my kid's car. It's a perfect height for that work and is quite comfy.

It's SOLID - no creaking of the wooden joints at all. I might actually swap it with another vintage office chair I currently use at my desk in the basement.

Cheers

Jim

Outlaw, very nice I think shanny said it best.

Good quote from Shanny!

BoogThanks, I've taken some time off before from sales, a good bit of time in fact. Felt good to balance everything out.
Flyer, some major suckage in that haul!
In the first picture what's the unique looking ratchet?

Do you mean the little 1/4", 3rd ratchet down?
If so it's a Williams M-51 like the one above it but the older style handle.

This is why I love Estate Sales ...

Found the following:

50's-60's vintage Guaranteed Parts Ignition Parts Cabinet full of NOS ignition parts (rotors/caps/points/condensers/brushes/spark plugs) that fit 40s-70s vintage AMERICAN cars. Cabinet is solid with a little surface rust. I might throw this up in the classifieds for any interested buyers.

Same sale I found this vintage Snap-On impact gun - looks hardly used, certainly well-cared for - works great and should provide better service than the pos HF one I have now.

Then check out this ancient Ingersoll-Rand air hammer. This guy took really good care of his tools. Inside the crazy clean metal box was the original model brochure, dated 1963. Came with a few bits and it works great. Amazing for 50+ yrs.

Then finally, in addition to a small pail full of hand tools including a few Snap-on and Mac wrenches, I also picked up this 1971 Ariens Snowblower. These old models are built tough and if taken care of will last forever. The guy running the sale said it didn't run. I noticed there wasn't any gas in the tank. Got it home and put a little gas in and it started on the second pull.

I'm just glad to see all of these cast aluminum Workmates getting saved. This one is intersting because the plastic "feet" on the fold out legs are the type of feet that you usually see on the stamped steel riser Workmates that came later. Most of the cast aluminum Workmates I see have the screw-in adjustable feet. This one could be sort so a "missing link" that occured way at the tail end of Workmate production. Can't quite tell from the pics but is the top made of MDF instead of plywood? If so that would also be indicative of late cast-aluminum production since the plywood tops seem to have been phased about about the same time as the cast aluminum risers. Any markings or labels on the underside of the front piece of the top?

The top is made of 2 thin layers of plywood with MDF in between. No stickers, it has 1 adjustable foot. There are two separate markings on the underside, Type4 in one corner, and 737 32 stamped on the other. I may be picking another one up later this week, It'll be interesting to see the differences, if any.

Are you saying everyone wants these aluminum workmates? Are they really that handy?

Not everyone. I got hyped up seeing them on here and found one at a sale, it was more trouble than it was worth(and I didn't pay much) so I flipped it. Some guys like them and I have seen some good uses but it wasn't for me.

I like them for the cool factor. I really like the aluminum frame. But more importantly, I now have about 4 grinders without stands, and I plan on using it to mount whichever one I need. I got the idea from this picture posted here on GJ:View media item 46175

I see them on CL al the time. Or maybe the same ones for $15-$50 in my area. I just thought they were a flimsy work station. For $15 maybe I should go grab one. I could probably use it camping too. Hmm. :headscrat

Agreed. I passed on a steel one the other day for $5 after playing with it for a few minutes. Unless the aluminum ones are substantially sturdier, which I kinda doubt, I'll pass on one of those too. They don't fold up all that small. For an occasional homeowner user I could see the appeal, even a portable tool stand. Kinda like the craftsman block grinders, the forum talks them up, but at the end of the day, next to a true industrial tool, eh. To each their own, just not for me. I'll stick to my tri stand.
