I went the cheap route and got this manometer, the Dwyer version linked in the other thread is what we used on the spray booths at work

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09GL31DC4/?tag=atomicindus08-20
Same style as used on Radon systems....probably the only difference between it and the one on my radon system is the coloring of the fluid.
Thanks very much for the info on the manometer (and the Voron printer).

I'll be closely following your progress on the filter pressure monitoring.

My (inevitable) foray into 3D printing is still a ways off, but I enjoy thinking about it now and planning for the future. I like how you've tried both the Voron and off-the-shelf models to see how they fit into your shop.

Wow...been a bit....so quick status update on a few topics and brief explanation of my extended absence

Bambu P1S 3D Printer-Arrived as a birthday gift to myself...was working but currently broke due to operator error which wasn't helped by a mobile app error...but still my fault. First print was a "**********":

1704431522556.png

So far...pretty impressed. Some learning with the software and color change, but quality of prints when I do my part right is great...and speed is great....would (and probably will) buy another based on what I've done so far

I'll post a picture and larger writeup of what I did to break it after I get it working again :)

Voron repair-no progress, still broken and I see it a million times a day as it's 7' away from me in my office right now

Manometer on furnace for filter change project-no progress

Garage based projects: Some great neighbors moved away this summer and have moved back to a different neighborhood a mile or so away after his next .mil posting turned out to be a poop show...so he turned in his papers and is retiring and they moved back. In honor I made a garden flag holder for his Army or Packers flag they had on a metal one when they were neighbors....then in a moment of snarky-ness bought a Bears flag to hang on it for when I "install" it

1704431764315.png

Had been intending for it to be installed 3 or 4 weeks ago....however I had a finish issue that caused it to not dry well(at all)...so I still have it. Still not sure what caused that issue...but it'll get delivered.....soon?

And yes, it's sapele mahogany for the wood snobs...cause I have scads of it and it's a great choice for exterior projects. Thru tenon for the crossbar cause why not.

Started to attempt to make some end grain coaster for some neighborhood Christmas Gifts, glued up 2 pieces side x side, then jointed a flat face and glued those together

1704431923943.png

1704431953160.png

However this is about as far as it has made it as I was going to start working on that laser in the background to do some fun engraving until life reared it's head back up and said "Nope"

Nov '22 my father in law(62 yrs old at the time) got a cancer diagnosis of an unfortunately rare and aggressive lymphoma type in the brain that after approx 10 months of fighting got declared in remission...unfortunately that remission was short lived of around 2 months and it's back. We may have gotten a bit lax thinking he was doing well...we knew he was a ****** patient...he was not being "fully transparent" with some symptoms...intentional or not we aren't sure...but end result is the same.

So the last month or so has been a hot mess. He's in a clinical trial to try and give some extra time...but it's a trial...and extra time if it works is months probably...not years. The situation is made more "fun" by his wife is disabled thanks to a medical event 6 or so years ago and can't live at home without him...so yeah....lots of changes likely on the horizon there.

So the situation *****, and is magnified at the moment as during the holiday season someone gave the gift of the Covid out at a family gathering and my wife, my father in law, his wife and at least one other family member all have it(and probably others we haven't heard from) so my wife is staying at her Dad's house for at least a couple days in the "sick ward" as they need the help and they're all sick with the same contagious item! The kids so far are doing alright without Mommy and fortunately her symptoms are very minor...this weekend may be fun but we'll survive and make some memories...hopefully positive ones :)

It's not all woe is us...it could be a heck of a lot worse and we're extremely fortunate with close access to a world class cancer facility, flexible jobs and what appears to be an opportunity that many don't get of knowing when the end may be near. Also have a huge liquor store with a large bourbon selection and many I haven't tried....

So that's the story....still here, garage is extra neglected, a few projects here and there, in good news I have almost 8 weeks of vacation time this year and for someone who has historically struggled to use vacation time...I'll have more reasons to use it this year it appears?

I'll try and post here more as time, energy and something noteworthy allows! Will be working thru subscribed threads at various waiting rooms and procedure appts to try and get caught up on the happenings around here!

Sorry to hear about all the family things, never a fun situation...hope you and your family and stay healthy and be a rock to help where possible.

8 weeks of vaca, sweet! I would abuse that to the fullest lol

I've been reading a LOT about those Bambu printers, they really do seem to be the bees knees....making myself resist the urge to dive into another rabbit whole at the moment....hoping the technology continues to scale inversely with price like it has over recent years and a year or two from now I can dive in!

Cancer *****. It took my dad and grandpa 6mo apart.

Make the most of the time and for criminy out loud, use that vacation time! My last job taught me the value of turning off the phone/email and using those vacation days.

Appreciate the update, was beginning to wonder if we ran you off!

Sorry to hear of the challenges, Logan.

Having been through much of what you describe, I can tell you that finding even small amounts of 'you' time is an important part of navigating this storm.

No one ever lay in their deathbed and wished they had taken fewer vacation days. Use all of the vacation.

Hopefully the wife gets better soon then and you get back to garage time. Sorry to hear about the cancer of course.

I am very interested to hear more on the P1S. It has shot to the top of my list for a printer replacement upon discovering it earlier this week.

Very sorry to hear about your FIL, Logan. I agree with Bob. You might not be able to change the situation at hand, but you can affirm the things that are positive in your life (happy healthy kids, steady job, lot's of vacation time, etc). As a dad of similar age kids who does solo duty often (just had a 5-day stretch over the holidays where they were out of daycare and my wife was working), I know very well it can wipe you out and result in survival mode. But it's also an opportunity and I fully believe you get out of it what you put into it. I like to get out of the house when possible, even if it's just taking them to ice cream in the middle of winter. Anyways, good luck to you. :ROFLMAO: My wife just had covid for the first time, too, and it was very mild and none of us got it. Hopefully yours is back in the action, soon.

How does everyone have 8 weeks of vacation?!? I work for a very small company (12-15 employees) and 'officially' I get 10 days. Although usually use more like 15. We don't really have an HR department lol.

Yeah, sorry to hear about the in-laws and the extra Covid kicker.

Cancer *****. It took my dad and grandpa 6mo apart.

Thanks. I've been very fortunate in life and haven't had to deal much with the fun affects of aging and illness till the last couple years, but man when it rains it pours I guess! But we'll figure it out...appreciate the support!

8 weeks of vaca, sweet! I would abuse that to the fullest lol

I too have 8 weeks this year. They let us carry over 2 weeks, but anymore than that that goes unused is lost. I told myself a few years ago I am not letting that happen anymore.

Make the most of the time and for criminy out loud, use that vacation time! My last job taught me the value of turning off the phone/email and using those vacation days.

Yeah we had a change for benefits this year and it bumped almost everyone's vacation time up....the only group that didn't get more time off was those with like 27 or more years of tenure. I had about 4 weeks....now have 6, and I could carry unused over so that got me to 8 but I won't have carryover moving forward. So 8 weeks this year, then 6 after this. Wife and I have had some discussions on it and will no longer be donating any unused time back.

So far I'm impressed. At this point the biggest concern I've got on it is the fact it's a pretty "closed" off environment in terms of the software with a very new to the game Chinese company. So something happening with that company, either due to their politics, business things or our politics could render these machines to limited or no functionality with the flick of a switch. Not saying it's going to happen, but it's a potential. On the flip side of that is these machines are now popular and common enough, that if there was something that happened, there would likely be a strong community to hack/retrofit the software to get them running again

The other big name I've got experience with is Prusa, who is very open with the designs, but IMO they got complacent and didn't push for more speed, colors, size etc as hard as they should've and Bambu came in with the X1C and blew them out of the water with the combination of speed, color and price. Now there are several companies cloning the Bambu X1 with faster speeds and larger print envelopes than the standard Prusa 210mm x 250 or something like that (Bambu X1/P1 envelope is 256mm cubed)

Appreciate the update, was beginning to wonder if we ran you off!

LOL...fair question...but nope. And definitely can't run off now....got my Alliance Member toolbox badge in last week!

Doesn’t cover the P1P / P1S, but it’s already happening for the X1:

Man, f*ck cancer. Just lost my old man a month and a half ago, seven months after diagnosis.... wishing you the best....

Agreed and sorry to hear about your loss, condolences to you and your family.

I watched that video last night too! It's a big step for sure....unfortunately the applicability is limited as they've been shipping units with firmware that it doesn't work on for awhile, but it just means that now they have to find another way to load the custom software. As they get more and more common, and if they can add any sweet features to that custom software that isn't factory supported it'll increase the interest and hopefully make it easier and easier to do this. Takes me back to my college days with a modded Xbox and able to run old N64 and Super Nintendo emulators on it!

Logan,

My thoughts and prayers are sent your FIL's way. Can't wait to see what you do with the new printer.

BTW how is the mini split doing for heating the garage? I have everything wired, just need to buy, install the unit.

Alright....well where we were last on this rambling and more stopping then going journey last I was here....oh yeah

So life outside of work maybe calming down a bit. Wife spent 1.5 weeks at the inlaws helping them thru their respiratory ailments while she also had the 'vid ,at this point everyone seems to be over that stuff. Father in law's tumor responded surprisingly well to the trial drug he's on after only a month and he's currently back to a pretty "normal" day to day life which is awesome. We are trying to be supportive and optimistic while also balancing the challenge that we can't responsibly ignore the significant probability that he passes this year and leaves a disabled wife that can't live on her own. For now, things there are improving which is the best they've been in 3 months, but we're not being blind to what may be coming

Ok...so back to the **** we're actually here for

Screenshot 2024-01-28 191621.png

Sorry...had to... :D

Ok...3d printer....oh yeah....how did I screw up my Bambu:

Screenshot 2024-01-28 191749.png

The mobile app for these provides a significant amount of functionality...but the live view/camera feed was acting up and I remotely started a print without first validating I had the build plate back on the bed.....oops.

So it caused a big blob on the hot end as the filament wasn't sticking to the build plate(that was MIA) but the only actual damage ended up being to a fan shroud that broke. Once I got some time and dove in...it was fixed in 30 minutes or so and is back printing random stuff again

Screenshot 2024-01-28 192149.png

Screenshot 2024-01-28 192212.png

I need to get some actual progress on real projects going. Overall still pretty impressed with it. I need to move some things around in my basement mechanical room/storage room/3d printing tucked away hidey hole...but it's fast and when I do what I'm supposed to it works very reliably. Next real project needs to be the parts for my Voron extruder head that are broken, then the next piece for the garage dust collection effort.

Garage has had very little progress....and little is probably generous. Tried to clean up a few things here and there, I need probably 2 hours out there to try and put away stuff that has been pulled out and not returned home...assuming I have the first normal week of work this month and have 5 days of daycare without weather days, sick days or teacher inservice, I plan to work on it a bit each day over lunch hour. One of the items toward the top of the list after $h!t is back in places needs to be to sell some things that are taking up space and not being used. Then it needs to be getting the drill press project finished, dust collection at least functional and to the tablesaw, then a laser upgrade 18 months in the making finally finished....

Hum....seems like a theme there with projects.....not sure what it is though.....maybe I'll come back and think about it more later.... ;)

So true.... work with a lot of guys in New England area, gave them a lot of **** in the Patriots hayday... lot of talk with them the last year or two about how it feels to become the despised

How many weather days did your kids get the last couple weeks Martin? Think we are at 3 for snow/road conditions and 1 for cold

I'm rooting for the Chief since Patrick Mahomes graduated from the same college I did, Texas Tech University.

I hear you on the cleaning of the garage, it seems like I order stuff and it gets lost in the garage. I keep looking at the shelves of camaro parts and keep telling myself that I need to purge some of that stuff off the shelf since I've gotten past that part of the project. But I'm hesitant to throw anything away or sell it yet because I just don't know if I will need it later on. But it's starting to cost me money because I'll end up ordering another one of the same parts I already have but just forgot or couldn't find it. I think once I get the driver side door panel and the AC installation completed (going on 14 months of installing) on the camaro I'm going to stop and clear the clutter of the shelves and make designated shelves for new parts or parts to be put back on the camaro and get rid of trash. Along with put parts I won't be using but want to hold on for future reason, away in totes with an itemized list to reference to in the future.

It's never ending though.

Three cancelled days, three late starts. My oldest two are in first and second year preschool though, so it really doesn’t matter to me.

We had a lot of snow here, more than we have had for over ten years. Roads were plugged up all over. For almost two weeks, I had to turn East out of my driveway, go down to the intersection, go a mile North to the highway, and then go West. Which is fine, I could get out. The county prioritized roads required to be open for livestock, and then comes back to the other roads.

I definitely understand ya! Growing up on the farm the semi-unofficial motto was "If it ain't junk it ain't mine", with the supporting statement of "If you run junk you've got to have a lot of it!" We have a couple of old hog buildings we've cleaned up and converted to storage of various sorts....so we've got more storage for "stuff" then is healthy for anyone with flat surface disease...and if you don't have it when there is little incentive to throw the various stuff out..well you'll quickly develop it. As I've acquired things for good prices over the years....I struggle to then dispose of things I no longer need or that good deal I haven't used yet....yeah it's still in the garage taking up space and having to work around it for no reason other than I haven't disposed of it like I should.

And like a damn fool....there is an estate sale on Thursday with a bunch of woodworking stuff on it I'm probably going to go look at....and the local tool and die shop that's closed up with some well maintained Bridgeport knee mills on auction closing next week. At least I know I don't have the space for the mill...right now :)

Interesting color on the 'You get what you get" sign. Is that Honolulu Blue?

We're definitely feeling blue here in Detroit today.

LOL wow didn't even make that connection...but yeah that's a darn close match to Lions colors, just happened to be the best looking contrasting colors I had loaded in the machine. I was cheering for Detroit as would've rather seen them make it then San Fran. Very aware of how the Detroit fans feel after 30 years of no playoff wins and getting this close to the big one...but their progress over the last 3 years has been impressive so they'll be a contender again next year as long as the roster doesn't fall apart in the offseason.

I'll admit, that is 1 part of living in the country I don't miss. First 2 winters in southwest Iowa were both big snowfalls and they came with big winds. The road I lived on was township maintained, but the north/south road a 1/4 mile away was county maintained and it got cleared first so if I could get there I could get out within 24 hours usually. Think I got snowed in at work 2x in those 2 years when I was working late/splits for some reason and by the time I left the roads were drifted closed so was back to town to the hotel for a night and hope could make it thru in the morning...and if not at least had better odds of not waiting so long for a neighbor in a tractor to come thru and break it open or pull me out!

Glad to know you finally got pushed out! Hopefully the big snow and big wind can be done for the year...but its not even Feb so that's unlikely. But moisture is moisture, I much prefer shoveling rain though

My wife is a nurse at the hospital in town, she went it to cover for nurses who could not make it into town on Friday. She came home that first night, and then got stuck the next morning in our driveway (after I had already driven into town and back, to make sure it was doable). I got her out, and sent her to work, and then she just stayed at the hospital for a couple nights, and worked a couple day shifts. I was snowed in at home with the kids for that time. It was ok, but it would have been more fun if she was snowed in at home with the rest of us. The pay will make up for it though!

Thank you to your wife for her support of the health care system! I was voluntarily snowed in for several days with the kids while the wife was at the "sick ward"....we made it 4 or 5 days and still generally liked each other at the end of it though the 5 year old's mood was changing as quick as the direction of the wind

First step is supposedly the hardest....well got a first step done. 2 boxes of gently used Schaller organizer bins up for sale...replaced with 3d printed ones...so maybe I can start freeing up more space then is taken up by things I don't need that come home anyway...

Oh good deal! I should probably print my own too.

Cost wise they're not any cheaper than buying Schaller unless you get a killer filament deal...but I really like how I can design them to place on a grid/base so they don't slide around if the drawer isn't nested tight. Also an easy way to use up spool tails if you don't care about the colors all matching. Toss a .6 nozzle in and let it fly.

man I missed out on buying more red organizers......

No worries, it's another reason why you need a 3D printer so you can make them exactly as you want....in the colors you want :)

Practiced some restraint recently at an estate sale....it was helped by what I thought were "not bargain" prices on a lot of things. Think it would've been very interesting to have met the occupants. Amongst the less common elements of the house was an extremely large and very diverse library...at least several thousand titles the majority of which were textbook/reference material on huge variety of subjects. Plus there were tools:

lathes.png

Forgive the setup people for their sins with the chuck key...they know not what they do. Plus I actually don't think it was working...

organizer.png

424835231_18013032674496617_5379747933802470325_n.jpg

Came home with these (2)

books.png

Plus a couple of drill bit indexes(stamped metal kind), a big chisel and a tiny trim plane. Wanted to have come home with this Bedrock 608 or the #8

planes.jpg

However the 608 was claimed before I got there(and I wasn't paying $200) and the #8 was $150 and wasn't willing to give that just to help fill out the collection when I don't actually have an immediate need for it.

If I'm smart I won't attend return to the 25% or 50% off sales when they're a bit more motivated to move things
