Close up of the mount block for the vertical pipe mount, repurposed the temporary proof of concept horizontal holders by taking a 1/4" off the base with the bandsaw and then a couple picture hanger D-ring type pieces to use as cinch points for the double sided velcro

pipe clamp.jpg

Bandsaw makes a decent pipe cutter as long as I don't have to deal with a big tail...if so then it's sawzall with an 8" blade

And the air line project showed up:

air hose.jpg

Now to find/make mounting clips for it

Getting tired of having to slam everything back to the single side so I can stop the "looks" from the wife and inlaws about their cars sleeping outside during a thunderstorm...but it's 5 minutes of work so not that big of deal, just annoying

@82355 hope the great white combine missed your place, know it did a number farther west... Hopefully it avoided @OutlawDrifter's family and friends

Nice work on the pipe holders. I like the picture hanger/Velcro idea !

Thanks! Was trying to repurpose stuff I had and not race to the 3d printer as the answer, pretty happy with how secure it is.

My crew just finished replanting the beans about a week ago back in the Gering Valley. They got smoked pretty hard. Not sure how the corn will do, it was a pretty wide swath through the panhandle. Part of the gamble of farming I guess.

Wasn't sure how far it went...farming is always a gamble with mother nature. Saw some depressing pictures out of the Lexington area with some fields that got hammered, hopefully the weather smiles on the panhandle and the replant works out!

Well the rain overnight tossed the proverbial wrench in my plans as daycare got some water in classrooms so was closed. So a 3 generation trip to Menards and a contractor focused tool store occurred in the morning, then afternoon I got back to the garage for awhile

@Greenlawnracing was a typical GJ enabler and sent me a link for some Wera allen wrenches for 15 bucks or so on Amazon...they showed up today...bigger then expected...always a problem

tuesday 1.jpg

Got the corner turned on the main trunk...from here it's just a straight shot down the wall with probably (4) Wye's on there for future tool hookups. Although as I think about it I should probably make those 6 x 6 x 6 wye's and right now I've got 6 x 6 x 4's......trip back to Menards is apparently in the future

tuesday 3.jpg

The big chip collector can is a demonstration in redneck "make it happen with **** you already have" I had a likely irrational fear that this whole thing wasn't going to work well enough and as a result didn't buy a better chip collector yet and wanted to prove it out before going down that path. Think the long term collector will be a short metal container with a flex hose connection to the cyclone.

Tuesday 4.jpg

tuesday 5.jpg

That was enough to be able to get a test run in with a single open 6" port

And at the open 6" port which will be tablesaw

Noise is what I was hoping for...very tolerable and I think can be made quieter still

Tuesday 2.jpg

This is off the phone, with the phone at basically ear height while standing at the tablesaw. A lower pitch noise at full blast, but easily able to have a conversation and I think with some additional noise control work I can quiet it down some more. VFD fan to cool the controller is actually probably a more annoying noise than the blower/motor itself

Great job Logan, on the dust collection project and everything else. Getting dust collection hard lines and air plumbed is going to make your ongoing shop-Tetris trickier!! Maybe you’ll have to stop finding amazing deals on fb marketplace every damn day! Sorry, just jealous. 🤣

I got some similar Wera hex keys, I love them and you can’t beat 15 bucks.

Have you tried the compressor yet? I love how quiet they are. Still need to get mine in the ceiling, too. Will be watching what you’re doing.

It's been hard to not go look at this, though not a steal..the Minimax would be sweet but just can't justify the price as I haven't outworked my current equipment's capability

Agree...I'm always short metric sets right now so this was too good to pass up!

I've kicked it on to hear it and put it on the shelf...that's it so far. Starting to run airlines may be on today's task list, I think I know how it's going to go and the air will be needed for next phase of dust collection

And assuming I can get the rest of the ductwork finished for the dust collection...next phase is blast gates. 6" gates actuated by air cylinder, triggered by solenoid valve and a current sensor on the outlet for the machine. Basically this setup:

And the files needed for the 3d printing:

Parts are showing up Friday/Saturday/Sunday....see how things work out.

One thing I don't have figured out yet is what I'm going to do to try and keep a blast gate open at all times. If I put them all on current sensing automation...the dust collection would fire up with all gates closed and that's no bueno. As of now I think tablesaw port will be the most commonly used one, so I may put the cylinder to open/close on it but run it off a palm switch or other manually cycled method. Controlling the solenoids with some logic run off an Arduino or similar controller could be done so that it's always leaving one open, not closing the last one until the next tool opens up etc is definitely feasible...but honestly more then I want to deal with right now. If anyone's done something similar or has seen this implemented easily would love to learn/get the link!

Taking it even farther into overkill, as the motor is on a VFD could even ramp down the speed after X time without tools on and ramp it back up with tools turning on....yeah I just need to get back to the garage and stop thinking about what could be and start doing something

and I resent that squirrel comment, I suffer from it.

join us.jpg

Many of us are guilty of it around here...be at peace....you have found like minded lost souls tripping over 15 different projects in their shops/garages/basements etc

Speaking of tripping over projects....the garage is a mess

saw 2.jpg

But making a bit of progress trying to get tablesaw and router lift hooked up. Not exactly sure how I'm going to do the overarm dust shroud yet....likely a long 2.5" hose with some type of over arm support

looking around my garage I believe I might be in the chipmunk club since I got 8 chipmunks running around my property and they don't help with my focus. I'll watch them pick up a nut, run alittle bit, see another nut and they put their original nut down to pick up the new nut and then run along their original path. Once they hid their new nut, they come back and pick up the old nut and go a different direction then they were originally.

I know how that chipmunk thinks unfortunately.

At least they remember the original nut! I'm usually at least 3 or 4 distractions in before I realize I've gone astray!

Squirrel chasing another nut I mean project... kinda. Didn't have the energy to go to Menards for fitting exchange... Might have hit the beer fridge too early. So started running the Rapidair tubing. I don't have their wheel straightener but running palm across it while it's on a flat surface seems to work well enough. Clips are on 24" centers

Also trying a lazy no crank homemade ice cream recipe... White Mountain unit comes out sometime in the next couple days to crank some

3D printed straightener I concocted the other night with a series of stepped down diameters and the finest adjustment that a spare worm gear clamp can make

20240705_203143.jpg

20240705_203147.jpg

Definitely an improvement over hand straightening, if I had more to put up I'd reprint it longer and toss another worm gear on there

20240705_212154.jpg

That makes the 3 runs planned at this time, so next up will be the drops down, wall outlets, hose reels, connecting to compressor and whatever I do at compressor for filter, dryer etc. Couple more tee fittings supposed to show up this weekend, unsure if there will be much time to make much progress on the blowy or sucky project till next week

In other garage related stuff, bit of a change upcoming on 3d printers. Will be selling the original Prusa and the big Voron(after I fix it) and have another Bambu on the way, this time the A1. The new one with the open air filament holder will be the primary Pla machine as the filament is nearly immune to humidity and the existing P1S will be what I use for other stuff.

I forget what day it was this week but look what showed up on our porch literally right before I saw this post. I was emptying the dishwasher this morning and saw it in the cabinet and it made me laugh. What's your recipe?

What's your recipe?

3 ingredients only
Whipping Cream
Sweetened Condensed Milk
Vanilla

And a whisk for those that need a workout, or mixer for those that would rather watch the work happen

Results were good

ice 1.jpg

I used crushed Oreo's and cocoa powder we had on hand for the chocolate, the powder wasn't the right choice there and next time I'll either do melted choc or some other recipes call specifically for dutch process cocoa....I'm a big chocolate fan and think the vanilla was better...but I'm still eating both of them

No hail here (yet). We have also missed all the heavy rains since we replanted three quarters of corn. Stuff is looking pretty good over all. Have not had to run a pivot yet.

Martin
I'm kinda out in your country today in Schuyler...agree it looks darn green and nice up here! Nasty round that went thru south central NE last night, lots of hail and wind damage in Filmore county

So garage disaster at it's worst....but it's darkest before dawn or something like that:

start of doors.jpg

About 3 or so hours later both existing doors are fully removed, the door seal is installed on both openings and the double door panels are stacked up and working on tracks:

door middle.jpg

Raynor AP200 which is a 2" thick, R18 panel with an extended, recessed ranch panel design. Painting will be on us

Installed!

Wait a minute.....

outside 2.jpg

This is one of those kids activities where you get to spot the differences between 2 similar but not exactly the same things....

The two car is perfectly squared paneled and the single has a little bevel added in there......and the bottom seal is different ?

No matter, that's a nice addition and they look great!

Yup, panel embossments are different

Two car is a recessed ranch or more like a shaker/flat panel. This is what the wife wanted

door detail.jpg

Single car is a raised ranch design, aka raised panel cabinet style. This is the predominant design in the neighborhood and what we had before.... But not what boss lady wanted if we were getting new

20240709_185048.jpg

Assuming I'll get some feedback from the office tomorrow on what they're going to do. I honestly don't have much of a preference between the 2 designs...but having them mismatched won't fly. Fortunately the big door is what the wife wants and what we were expecting, so I'm hoping their isn't much of an issue getting the panels on the single door replaced

This is exactly why I hate hiring people to come work on my property. Rarely does anyone get it 100% right without my having to micromanage or at least check in every 15min. They either don't give a ****, don't bother to check with the bossman, or don't come prepared. Now they have to come back and redo something, meaning cranky workers doing the job twice, cranky boss you might get to deal with in the future, and you get to potentially take time off to stay at home and babysit the workers again. To some thats not a big deal, but to me it definitely is.

Agree, I'm fortunate with work from home that it has less of an impact on me, but does mean I can't get painters out for awhile to get the doors painted as I don't want to pay for them to show up 2x

In good news I got a call from the dealer at lunch time, new panels are on order and they'll try to expedite them but if not likely 6 weeks which is what lead time on the originals were. Feedback was it's a manufacturing mistake with putting the wrong labels on the door which means somebody else out there has the door I was supposed to get...in reality it doesn't matter to me if it was ordering error or mfg error, they're correcting it and when it's done I'll pay the outstanding bill.

Logan, I did PLC automated dust collection several years ago. There's a thread about it on SMC and it's in my shop thread about page 23. PLC's can be had for next to nothing now days. The current sensors are inputs to the PLC and the air solenoid is the out put. My dust collection only has a power on switch to enable the system, and I repurposed the remote control to be cyclone power off. Cyclone powers on as one would expect and only turns off my the remote or turning off the control power. It has been 100% reliable. I use it daily. You're on the right track. Happy to share what I've learned if you can use it.
