Awesome...Thank you sir!

Can somebody please help me out with a lighting layout? I think I will over-do it and spend too much money on too many lights if I just wing it. Three car garage that will primarily be for parking and the occasional car detail(probably once a month).
We are framing right now, rough electric will be soon. Garage is 29' deep, 33'2" wide, flat ceiling at about 11' (I am not home to measure right now, it changed a little after the plans and I can't recall exactly how much). It will be fully drywalled, walls and ceiling.

Try playing with this online design tool:

That pretty much coveres the whole spectrum of lighting from parking where very little light is required to see where you're going, to detailing which requires excellent lighting. At 11' fixture mounting height, look for fixtures around 8000 lumens. 3-Lamp LED strip lights are a viable option. Idealy you want fixtures around the perimeter of the vehicle(s) to eliminate shadows. You don't have to use the fixtures that are linked in Dialux (I never do). If you want to play with the Hyperikon fixture (whose light output is really too low for 11' mounting and detailing cars), contact Hyperikon and ask for an IES file. Alternately, find a similar output/style fixture IES file (there are quite a few in the visual tool under Lithonia).Three car garage that will primarily be for parking and the occasional car detail(probably once a month). ... I got Pro Lighting to do a couple quotes for me, they were both pretty pricey compared to what I ended up using. 51 fc, that's not very bright.
Have you tried playing with the online tool I posted above?
To make sure you have all the options, here is my preference: LED layout using the Diva Light 2ft 13,700 Lumen and 19,300 Lumen fixtures (linked). Any similar output LED fixture with a medium (spherical) distribution will work. Initial cost is a little higher, but you’ll easily make that up over time as it cuts your lighting electric bill in half and you won’t be waiting 5-10 minutes for them to warm up to full brightness like the F54T5HO fixtures. Same mounting heights as Post #382. Fewer fixtures in lean-to areas.

shopoholic - That layout is dated (2015). See the layout and fixtures used by Kram02 (link)
Thank you sir, I believe I will go with this setup then.
looks like (12) https://greenlightdepot.com/collect...0w-with-lens-and-w-o-lens?variant=36041819012
I recently confirmed however that the side walls are 11-12' so im not sure if the two outside rows of 4 will make the lights too close to the ground? suggested mounting heights are 15-25'
the outside rows should sit about 12' from the ground and the center row should be about 14'. Any opinions?

Great thread! Found a layout that Plantonic Solid did that was very similar to my new garage. Used 24 7000 lumen Lithonia LED fixtures. Waiting for new insulated doors with high track so I can move my lifts.

Marsh, are you worried at all about the shadows that will be create due to the lights being ceiling mounted when the doors are up (open)?
I've got a dilemma about whether or not I should use unistrut to drop my fixtures down 18" so they are parallel with the garage door tracks to prevent casting shadows when the doors are up (open).

garagelogician - 27' is a really narrow 3 car with a 2 car typically being 24'. Image is too small to read numbers. If you want light between the wall and the car you likely have no choice but to put the fixtures close to the walls. It's one of those things that can make a garage different than other use spaces (WRT Lighting placement).
Plugging your info into Dialux and guessing at the ceiling height: 27' x 19' x 10', using 70|50|20 for Ceiling|Wall|Floor reflectance I used 4 rows of 4 2-Lamp strip lights (5200 Lm/fixture) to get 95fc @ 30" workplane (placing 4 fixtures end to end, 18" from walls, 8' between rows).
