    Lighting 8 or 10 or 12 4' T8's ???

2many, thanks for the feedback ... Not sure of the option you based from ... Option 1 is 16 bulbs (plus another 4 bulbs for task specific) Option 2 is 20 bulbs (likely another 2 bulbs for task specific) Option 3 is 24 bulbs (swing arm spots where necessary) The beam was added in order to help...

    Lighting 8 or 10 or 12 4' T8's ???

Thanks, I'm starting to lean towards 8 spaced evenly and then have 2-4 added for specific needs. That simplifies the switching since the 8 could be switched from the 2 doors (3 ways) and then those over benches/tools have pull cords for when needed.

    Lighting 8 or 10 or 12 4' T8's ???

Attached is a pic of a first cut of my lighting layout ... At 400 sq/ft, 10 4' T8's would seem to be the right "number". The ceiling height is 9' 6" with a 4x8 beam dropped below from left to right. The layout is somewhat complicated in that a 4x8 beam spans from left to right, with most...

So your neighbor is building again...what to do?

Oh, and I'd also mention to the police that one of the "intruders" (use that word) fled to your neighbors house and you are concerned that some of his construction tools/materials may have been thieved. If your neighbor is present, all the better. I suspect your problem will rectify itself.

So your neighbor is building again...what to do?

That simply means calling in the police. Call the dispatch number (may or may not be 911), have them send a patrol car over and explain to him/her the previous nights activity. If you really want their attention mention you will be armed if they get another call in the middle of the night. You...

    Welder cart outlet questions

The outlet will be directly below the panel (perhaps a foot or 2) and would like to size it for 50a. The wall is exposed for now, but will get finished with drywall. My wish is to have a cart that the welder plugs (or is direct wired) into along with a 120 outlet. The cart will have a short...

    Liftmaster 380lm to 2x 4' twin t8's

I'm contemplating having the 'remote light' that comes with the liftmaster 8500 have a pair of 4' t8 fluorescents light instead of the 2 100w incandescents it's rated for. Anyone see an issue with this?

    keeping machines from rusting

My favorite has always been a mix of mineral spirits and vasoline . Once evaporated off, the remaining film is as thin as way oil but holds better (and also slick as snot). I keep a mix in a spray bottle I can shake and apply at will. A thicker mix makes a storage medium that's easy to wipe...

    Rob's 20x20 refurb

This space is a serious downsize from what I had previously. It's also a relatively clean slate. The biggest challenge is needing the space for staging/workspace while house remodel progresses.

    Icebox Timberframe

SockeyeSummer has regular seismic "events" (I also have lived in the area). A "big one" won't spare much, but I'd guess his building would likely make it. Just a note in Alaska: The name for "superstorms" (aka sandy) is called spring. It's not an eathquake until it's 5+ (a 4.x is a shaker...

    layout and panel usage questions

a first cut at my thoughts about wiring is attached. From the 50a sub on the top wall, take a 30a 240 and 30a 120 for the outside shed. That panel already has breakers for this (the 240 for a dryer and the 120 that was using 12ga for a 150' run). Also draw a 20a 120 for outlets on that top...

I forgot one ... the garage door will be getting a liftmaster 3800? and would probably use that circuit for an overhead outlet/light as well.

    layout and panel usage questions

Hi all, I'm working on getting my 20x20 garage rewired. It's currently a nearly clean slate but does have some "history". As part of a general remodel of the house and gut of the garage, I had some work already done (permitted and professional rework). The first pic attached shows the new...

    Rob's 20x20 refurb

Hi all, After some distractions from general home remodeling, I'm finally getting serious about refurbishing my 20x20 attached garage. Attached is a diagram of the floor plan I'll be working with. The transformation so far has involved: 1) Gut rotted osb/drywall and crappy bench/shelves to...

    Metal Buildings--Mezzanine / 2nd Floor Issues?

Riverside, In my previous 24x50 2 story metal shop, 2/3 was mezzanine. The mezzanine floor was supported from the main structure via rods/plates into a center beam (so below was fully open, but mezzanine had rods coming down the center). I have no idea if i was "engineered" or to code (and I...

    Hiding elecrical behind drywall

can someone explain the "no buried junction box" thing? I can understand if they aren't covered, but how is a closed up "exposed" box safer than a closed up "buried" box? I never bury them, and understand that *if* there is an failure in one, it's much easier to repair when the cover is...

Removing supporting columns to free floor space

so, you're going to give up 12" of headroom under the existing beam to get rid of 2 posts? Sounds like bad trade to me (unless you have 10'+ under the existing beam already).
