    Fond Memories of Sears?

I loved the Wishbook! My mom or dad would order, and in a few days we would go down to the local shopping center with Sears attached to it. And they would pick the item out of the back room for us, shipped from some magical place. Simple times, Yet the UPS truck sure makes things easy now.

Can you smell the acetate-handle odor?

Mine were bought in the mid 80s, no noticeable smell. They are the red, clear and blue. My wife was given some by her parents. Clear and red. Maybe some white on them. STINK! I had no idea why her little tool box made by her grandfather stunk back in 94! Ah! The screwdrivers. Whatever. They...

Suggestions: Snap-On tools that worth buying

Flex sockets, ratchets, (though SK is really impressive). I buy what I use A LOT. Nothing that sits a lot.

    Stolen Tools

A good friend owns a pawnshop. EVERY firearm has the numbers ran. Show up with a box of tools sealed, and no receipt? Not going to do business. Flea markets are a clearing house of stolen tools in this area.

Pressure Washer Help... Narrowed down to two...

The pump is the important part, for the most part. Good ones are money, so I went halves with my father-in-law. That being said, I always hook up the supply and discharge hoses, then turn on the supply and let it get the air out. as Cf mtn said, never letting it go long without water flow for...

    Back Yard Fire Pits

I have been in the fire service, both vol. and paid for many years. In the county I work in, a pack of hot dogs will get you out of nothing. A burn ban is a burn ban. While fire pits are legal here, they do not have to be for cooking. They can be for fun or whatever. BUT, if there is a "burn...

Why noone paints their garage dark solid colors?

Lighting. If the garage was not used to work on stuff, I would consider a darker color. Do what works for you!

Bendpak decision: Good, Bad & Ugly

Spec stickers on cockeyed, (heck ALL the stickers were on cockeyed!), and the packing/metal was bent. Was it in one piece and not damaged? Yes. Stickers and "little things" were a mess. I, however, would order another one. The people made it worth it. They backed it up. It is solid.

Forceps / Tweezers - who makes the good ones?

Does anyone have a large safe in their garage?

I have an old Mosler. It came out of a post office. Looks like yours, but mine has a horrible paint job and government stickers on it. Plus, it has a lower, separately locked combo safe/door on the bottom, behind the doors. The door looks like a breech from a 15 inch cannon. Its cool.

    Security Cameras

Thank you. I hate to get carried away. When I bought a gun safe years ago, the salesman said something that I still remember. "The guy who can break into a safe like this will be breaking into my store, not your house".

Nomination for "Worst Automotive Maintenance Feature Ever"

With 69-70 big block Mustangs, per "the book", you need to loosen the engine mounts and jack up the engine an inch or so. Sunbeam Tigers with small block Fords had an access plate on the firewall for #4 and #8 spark plug.

new guy. 1960s cars, 1964 suspended home. Looking for a 4 post for storage

WOW. so cool. I like steel, a lot of of it holding up my cars. I have BendPak. If I was able, I would have gone Rotary, as my late father in law did. If you are under them a lot, I like the "extra" of a "good" lift. If you are remotely uncomfortable, don't buy it. YOUR life is under that car...

Getting a milling machine off a trailer...

Tow truck. I rented a fork lift for my Bend Pak lift. (The owner of the rental company, who I know fairly well, says a lift truck is the 2nd heaviest thing he has to rent out, so you have to be very sure of your surface). It was money well spent. A friend of mine was killed when he was trying...

which non-oil or alkyd paint for cabinets

Not sure where you live, but I have used Sherwin Williams oil based in my kitchen with an HVLP. Very happy. But, you want water based. So, I leave you the below. It didn't stink, and dried fast. Due to a diffrent project, I tried Rooda \Cloverdale Paint, (I think it is the parent co. of Rooda...

    Cannon Gun Safes From Costco

My first safe was not fire lined. I have regretted that ever since. I have others now, but as I am a firefighter by trade, I tend to look at worst case scenarios. You know your budget, you get what you pay for. Where is the Cannon safe made? Is it rebranded from somewhere else? Does it include...

    Wash bay in garage?

We have them at several fire stations. Things on the wall WILL get wet. Maybe you are more careful then half a dozen tired guys nearing the end of a 24 hour shift, but trust me, things get wet. It is nice to have, however.
