    Cutters edge chainsaw

Cutters Edge is a brand of saw marketed to fire departments for cutting roof ventilation openings through asphalt, wood and light metal roofs. They used big jonsered chainsaw heads with a large carbide tipped chain. The bar has a hole for a depth guard/chain cover. They are expensive when new...

CO detector is a pole barn

Generally smoke and heat rise during a fire, so ceiling/peak is best, but having one in there at any height would be better than not having one. If you get the newer 10-year style battery versions, that's not too often to get the ladder out. The extra money is worth the less hassle, even if they...

Christmas tool thread! What did santa bring you?

I was lucky enough to get a 1/2" Milwaukee 2663 m18 impact from the home depot deal with the single 5.0 battery (after a hint to SWMBO). Nice upgrade from using a corded hf impact for tires/brakes/tractor work. Can't wait to put the snow tires on now! Merry Christmas all!

    Advice on detached garage orientation

Trying to plan for a detached garage this year. Problem is deciding garage orientation or alignment. House is on a pie-shaped lot. The house is slightly angled to face the street. Do I square the second garage to the house or square it to the closest lot line? Either way it is visible from the...

How would you do baseboard around this vanity?

One possible solution I did not see listed was move the cabinet out, put in the regular baseboard, then put the cabinet against the baseboard. At that point, place the countertop on against the walls. Then you avoid notching the cabinent, legs or baseboard. The countertop overhang and caulk...

New Detached Garage - Insulate or no?

Our attached 20x30 garage was insulated and drywalled. It is not heated, but mostly stays above freezing all winter from engine heat. I think it also helps keep it cooler in summer. Fiberglass batts are usually cheap so it's a worthwhile upgrade even without hvac.

Stanley Black & Decker buys Craftsman

Stanley Black and Decker already owns Proto and MAC brands for premium tools. I suspect Craftsman will be focused on the mass-market consumer. My guess would be they would try to expand into Autopart and Home improvement store sales as well for that brand. The big question is what will be the...

    Questions about building a house

If you want to consider DIY part of the house, find a builder that participates in that type of program. The first house my wife and I built used a local Barden Homes owner-builder program. Every major step of the house had a price from their regular subcontractors attached and you could pay or...

Napa floor jack OEM and worth it over HF?

Time for me to get a floor jack and I could use some expert advice. I did do a search and couldn't find the answer. Looking for something ideally better than Harbor Freight but not looking to spend Hein-Warner prices and up. I am wondering who makes the lower priced NAPA jacks and what your...

    Recommend me a portable box

With it being for school and most likely not used for the duration of your career, look at what worked for the last class since you will probably not use it much once you complete your training. As a student cost and security matter, so the security aspect probably limits bag options. That...

    Home building ?'s

Make sure your electrician puts an outlet for a nightlight near the master bathroom toilet! Don't let your insulation contractor skip corners, get spray foam airsealing around windows, doors and other wall penetrations. Have fun, it is never perfect, know your plans and walk the site every...

    Any leaf gutter system recommendations?

When we lived in a treed neighborhood, we had Gutter Stuff added to the original gutters. Worked well for the 8 years we lived there and no winter ice problems with it either.

    porta -hut zoning issues ?

Without knowing your city and how the ordinance is worded, call your city gov't rep and inquire as to the "grandfather" status of yours. Your structure predates the ordinance and usually it applies from the effective date on. Might help. Good luck.

Rolling tool case for traveling techs.

Take at look at the Stanley/Jensen tool case choices. Seem to be a bunch with wheels in varied sizes with traditional organizer pallets. http://www.stanleysupplyservices.com/search.aspx?f=1%3a278
