    The 1,000 footer - 28x36 (35.5) pole barn/garage build

Went to Lowes and picked these up... GFCI, 20amp, for 60% off because the box was missing. I get 10% off for military. Couple questions for the group: How many outlets can these protect? I'm using yellow romex but my outlets say 15 amp, can I still run a 20 amp breaker? I know white romex...

Building my own shop.. Save money?

Having a good lumberyard that can deliver items with a crane truck is a big plus. My last roofer didn't have to lift anything but a nail gun. The trusses on my pole barn were hoisted right into place as well, 4 guys installed them in a few hours.

Building my own shop.. Save money?

This guy has a pretty good series on building your own pole barn... http://www.redneckdiy.com/youtube/ You need to weigh the cost with your timeline, availability of tools and helping hands. My 28x36 pole barn was built in 5 days, with concrete, for under $17K. Had I done it myself it would...

Scaffolding is going to be required for more ceiling work, just hanging those lights with two ladders was a dangerous event! I'd like to hang metal from the ceiling but the idea of getting it up there is pretty daunting.

    inspection question

My electrical trench didn't need to be inspected. I'd run the conduit and pipe, cap it off and finish later.

Finished electrical splice today, i'll get the box mounted in the barn tomorrow and then connect to my breaker in the house. I had a left over 60 amp breaker so i'm gonna use that in the house until I find that it needs something larger. I reversed wrapped the splice with electrical tape...

Hunting season is almost over, finally connected today after a terrible archery season... terrible because I can't hit a dear with an arrow! Electricity being pulled through conduit on Sunday... getting closer to having a usable shop... Wife and kids gave me a few cool garage signs to hang...

    Power to new barn

Before all of the bickering begins, always seems to happen... Code this vs code that... I'll tell you what i've learned from the guys on here. I'm no expert though. Find an online calculator to determine voltage drop with the wire that you pick. I am using 2-2-2-4 MHF but my run is under...

thanks, not as nice as some on here but my bank account ran out just as it was being finished... Also been spending a lot of time hunting this year, rifle season opens tomorrow so maybe I can redeem myself after some bad archery experiences... :dunno:

sounds like I'll need to put in another ground rod. I'll double check with my inspector before he comes out. Can the rods be inside or are they required to be outside? It will also be grounded to the house.

    Lowe's Clearance Thread 2014

what's odd is that the roll of copper pipe is $249 at one local store, and $65 at another 10 miles away... It say normal price is $149 though... Wonder what the scrap value is on 3/4"x60ft copper pipe? Or could it be used to run airlines in my shop?

Help with MHF 100 amp panel

I agree, just get a 20 space breaker box from the store, they usually have combo packs that come with a few 20-30 amp breakers included. I have the BR type breakers in my house so i'm getting this one. 2-2-2-4 MHF can direct bury but i'm doing conduit outside and an 8x8x4 junction box inside...

    Not your usual Mini-Split install

Nice install... I added a 500 sq ft master bedroom to my house and opted for a mini-split. Another option for people is the Ductless setup like this http://www.fujitsugeneral.com/duct.htm I placed the unit in the basement and the ducts go to the bathroom and closet. So far i'm super happy...

    The 1,000 footer - 28x36 (35.5) pole barn/garage build

Finally was able to run some gasline and conduit for electric. I have a buddy that works for the gas company so he brought all materials and a jackhammer since we had a few rocks to deal with. I'm using 2" gas pipe for conduit and 1" for cable tv conduit. Hopefully run wires in 2 weeks. My local...

I finally remembered to get a measurement... the peak is 19 1/2 foot tall. Hope that helps. Looks like my buddy with the gas company is free this weekend so I'll be trenching for gas, electric and cable/phone/ethernet this Saturday. Too bad all of my new grass already grew in, now I have to...
