Hey BajaScout, I had a pair of the Helios Fowler calipers that i liked better than the starrett, very smoothe !
I can also read the 100th dial face better too.
Those did clean up nicely.

Is that a chip in the last grinding wheel ? about the 8 o'clock position
give em a ring test and be sure there good. A wheel with a fracture can explode.

That looks like a spring steel retainer in the pic with the drive
facing up. If it is, you can carefully pry it from around the drive face.
Its in a groove.

I still have and use a workmate also, very handy for a lot of applications !
need to get you some swivel clamps for it, that snaps in the holes.
