Saturday score on 62"Husky tool cabinet

Found this today at a tool sale. Guy had several items from Home Depot for 1/2 price or better. I paid $200 for this box. It was still in the box, but it must...

    Vise Advice

Hey guys. I bought this vise at a swap meet for $10. I guess I was excited about the cheap price that I didn't give the vise a good look over before making the purchase. It turns out one of the jaw pads is missing so when the vise is closed all the way, there is about a 1/4" gap between the...

Wiring an electric range and a dryer

I've got a 60 foot run for the dryer and a 40 foot run for the range. My question is can I use 8-3 wire on both circuits? A 100 foot spool of 8-3 will cost about $120. If I use 10-3 for the dryer, I'll have to buy a 100 foot spool because the spools only come in 25, 50, or 100 foot lengths...

    AC Heat pump question

I just had a new A/C system installed with heat pump. The installer told me I needed #6 & #8 wire. I want to pull the wires myself to save a little $$$ but I'm not sure which wire is for the A/C and which is for the heat. Any electricians out there can give me some guidance, I would appreciate it.

    Brian's Sandbox - 40X60 on 11 acres

This story begins about 15 months ago. I'm finally at the point of having something to share and write about. The posts will be slow but steady. Our plan is to build a 40X60X12 pole barn. 800 sq. ft. of the barn will be an apartment for weekend stays. We started with 11 acres of raw land. No...

Pole Barn Interior Apt Framing Question

I will be building a pole barn in the next couple of weeks. After the barn is built, I will finish out part of the barn into an apartment. I've seen others on this site do something similar. For those that have done something like this, did you frame and secure your walls directly to your pole...

Neat product for driveway expansion joints

I've seen other posts where guys ask what is a good product for filling expansion joints when the boards start rotting. I saw this advertised in a local DIY magazine. Looks like a good solution. http://www.trim-a-slab.com

Off the grid Solar and/or Wind Power

I'm running into a few hurdles trying to get power to my land. I have read a little bit on alternative energy like solar and wind. I'm wondering if anyone in the GJ world has powered their structure solely on solar or wind? My building would be a 40x60 shop with an 800 sq ft efficiency...

    Wainscot

Looking for pros/cons to doing a wainscot on the outside of a pole barn. The only pro I can think of is appearance or curb appeal. Are there any cons to be aware of such as leaks at the seam?

    Floor plan question

So my plan is to build a 40x60 pole barn and 40x20 of it will be an apartment. I found this floor plan which is actually the floor plan of a mobile home. As you can see, it gives the dimensions of the living, dining and bedrooms but not of the kitchen, bathrooms, closets, etc. Is it possible to...

    Gas Heater help

I was given a shop heater similar to the one shown below. The guy who gave it to me said he thought it worked. I plug the heater in but the fan doesn't blow. I don't have any of the gas connections hooked up yet. I wanted to bench test it before I went to the trouble of hanging it and hooking it...

    Storage Cabinet Refurb

Picked this up on CL today. 14 gauge steel cabinet with two shelves. It's a little rough right now. Started sanding and cleaning tonight. Haven't yet decided on the "new" colors. My whole garage is grey (floors and walls) so I think I need to add a little color. I'm in TX so I might go with a...
