Here's that WWII handset I picked up this morning (Pic 1). Note the US Navy anchor marking (Pic 2). And a few of the other things cleaned up in Pics 2 - 7. More photos in 'Paraphernalia', 'Oxwall' ("Occupied Germany" pliers with finger grips), 'DOE' (Kraeuter), 'Rhode Island Tool Co' (South Bend Lathe Works tool post wrench) and 'PENENS' threads.

Lugz-
That handset is a sound powered phone (SPP) non amplified shipboard interior communication. Fun stuff!

Yeah, but it came out of the evaporust a little pitted. It would be nice to have a fresher one. Thanks!
Okay. Remember to check on the two extra Champion DeArment pliers I have, too, and I will throw them in the same box, with more of a surprise stocking stuffer I found rearranging the Lugzsonian.

Hit the Motherload of axes and hatchets at one stop last week. There are some real good ones in the lot. Plumb, L.L. Bean, Norlund, Kelly and Collins. He gave me a price of $10 each and I was fine with that.

Not a garage sale but a facebook Marketplace pick up... All Snap-On and Blue Point with a few other USA sprinkled in. Retired bus mechanic downsizing his garage. I did well.

Slow week for sales here in S.A. I went to a couple that didn’t promise much in the way of tools and they didn’t exaggerate—so I feel lucky to have made out as well as I did.

First sale had a bunch of plastic tool boxes with not much interesting inside, so when I spotted the cheapo little hip roof carrier, I got excited. Luckily, the PO labeled it "Tool Box" or I might have missed it altogether! :D Besides the usual detritus, it contained two Kraeuter dimple-diamond handled pliers—1701 & 1781; an Xcelite No.52 needle nose; a small pair of Camron nippers, a JP Danielson Bet’r-Grip 6” adjustable (date code H-7-0 (1940?)) and an unopened 7/16” Spring Link. All for $10. The Spring Link itself goes for over $5 at HD. First photo has circular file items in the upper right and things of varying interest in the lower right. The silver plate fork was jet black when I opened the box. Anyone know what the "Century" friction screws might have belonged with?

The second stop had only a single CM tool box. Sitting next to the tool box were a couple of tape-wrapped bundles of CM combo wrenches (-vv- and newer, but still slightly rusty) one for $80 and one for $30! Single wrenches and pliers in the box were marked $4-$6, so it was with some trepidation that I inquired the price of an unpriced pair of cutters. “How about $1?” says he. “Sounds about right” says me! What I found interesting is the "Western Germany" COO vs. West or W. Germany and the deeply forged pattern on the handles.

In addition to the tools found in the little red hip roof box mentioned above, it also contained a smooth working lock set. The key from the Independent Lock Co. is rather ornate by today’s standards and I’m wondering if Jeff Moss can put a date range to it or supply any interesting info.

There was an interesting listing for a sale today, well, it started yesterday but I wasn't in the mood to go, but I wander over this AM. An old stove repairman, kind of a mixed shop/home deal. And a lot of interesting stuff:

Herbrand 7/16 combo, Indestro 1/4 breaker bar, Proto puller arms, old .22 short box, misc. sockets, MAC speeder combos, Dunlop DADO set (sadly missing some parts) Plomb center punch, Buck Bros. gouge, and a Proto/Plomb blind hole puller. Oh, and the box I picked up to put it all it:

A British ammo box, .303 cal. Which is one of my favorite rounds. This was originally sold through Golden State Arms, who did a lot of sporter conversions of Lee Enfields. Sadly it is missing the lid. But, I will probably go back tomorrow for half-price day to try and find the missing bits of my haul.

Slim pickins (Lugz 2020_59) at the flea this morning.

attachment.php

Thermo torch tip cleaners kit, a corkscrew on a flexible T-handle shank (that I am not sure of the purpose), a Schrader "Firestone" tire gage (that I initially mistook for trench art!), an Auto-Lite gapper gage (wartime GMTK), a sentry for the infirmary, Vlchek No. 92 tappet wrench, and Craftsman parrot head pliers.

I’ve seen corkscrew tools for installing rope oil seals although I’m not sure about that one. I don’t have either of your Channellock extras so please send them along.

Don that is a good call on the corkscrew tool. I believe you are right! That probably is for rope seals!

Lugz- nice find in those pliers! Those belong on the long c thread with your others.

We are in lock down here so very little happening, though local online site I spotted a couple of fountain pens I was interested in, so looked through their other items for sale and found this. I added it to my purchase, but don't know what it was for. From the pics it was a little rusty, hoped to find anything stamped on it but no, nothing. It was for threading something, but it's not sharp and doesn't appear to have been intended to be sharp.
Anyone any thoughts?
Anyway that's the best I can add to the thread these days

Hey NYBODYMAN, How about a pic of that offset swivel ratchet by the big yellow bucket.
Nice haul, I could entertain myself for hours sorting n cleaning on all that.

Looks like a patch loop from an old pistol cleaning kit to me.

0001.jpg 0002.jpg

Edit: The second pic is a Great War squad level cleaning kit for 1911s. Those rods are dual purpose, but I'd be willing to bet a dedicated rod for patches was available from somewhere for some gun.

Yup. They're soaking. Weird *** pivot pin.

Lugz, does the Autolight gapper have a magnifier in the hole? I have one that does. pretty decent lens too!
No, it's missing. As Don said, they almost always are. I've had a few with lenses, all in GMTK's I sold to others.

The corkscrew tool is a packing puller for removing the packing from a valve or pump.
Thanks.

Thanks. I have a few, none with a flex shaft, and none with a corkscrew attachment, but I'm open to you, Don, and TOTO debating it.

RTM, those are actual needles, and are often used for threading buttons through seat backs and cushions.
I had assumed that that is what it could be, it's the rounded end that made me question that though.
My second thought was a style of speedy stitcher for an open weave material.
For cleaning, interesting thought. Pistols would be very rare over this side of the world, but army or older RIC possibly indeed. Our police force are not armed.
Doesnt really matter much, it will go into my crafting box and might get used at some stage for some thing.
As little Google image searching and I was fairly sure you must be on to something, but it's not straight, the 'pointed' end bends up sightly, which would not be required for pistol cleaning duties

Thanks for the interesting options though

Hi LostBoy, Think it’s possibly a Thatch roofing needle.

Hi LostBoy, Think it’s possibly a Thatch roofing needle.
It's not big enough I think, would need to be at least twice the length to go through traditional thatch here, but I think you're definitely on to something with this suggestion. Will do a little more searching on the PC over the next few days, straw work of some kind, I know the traditional horse collars were made of straw bound in canvas or similar.

If someone used them for that, I wouldn’t want to use them for their named use, tying up roasts. Look how big they are, you could tie hockey pucks with the ones I showed.

LostBoy: My first thought is a tool to use with some sort of loom (for weaving fabrics).
