    Somewhat odd Williams S51.

Somewhat odd Williams no model number or VS51? Check out the pic. This one has very few marking. The other side says 'made in usa' . The only thing like this I could find mentioned (alloy artifacts) was Williams Auto oriented/ economy line called 'volume'. But they had volume stamped on them...

Made spring for mid 30's/40's New Britain

I was cleaning an old 3/8 drive Craftsman, and broke the spring when I went to reassemble. It measured .024 with my mic so I grabbed the closest size piano wire I had (.025) , some needle nose pliers and I made a new one. It actually worked but felt too soft so I made another one that looked...

    Bonney ratchet question...

Anyone know where this style ratchet belongs in Bonney history ? All I know is that it's before the Rozmus patent (1966). From 59 to 61 there were a couple of patents ( by Hare ) using those stamped cover plates. If it was after them and before Rozmus then they went through 3 ratchet designs in...

Here's a couple that I think are kind of old. One (top) has a model # on it but has older styling...

    Craftsman V series Cadmium ?

Here's a couple of 1/4 " drive breakers. Both V series. The one in the top is standard chrome 50's to mid 60's but the older, bottom one makes me suspicious . Do you think it's cadmium plated or just darker chrome or dirty ?

Snap On. Point where they stopped date coding .

Its been mentioned that for a time in the 70's, Snap on didnt date code some tools. Below is my F710D with no date code. For kicks I went on eBay and looked at pics of others. I've seen 69, 76 and 78 codes and it makes me wonder to what extent they stopped. Is it safe to say this ratchet was...

GJ helps out in real life..

Last night on my way to CVS I walked by a beautiful young woman who was struggling with a flat tire. She was with a couple of other people so I figured between the 3 of them they'd get it fixed. On my way back she was still there and her friends ( revealed to be passerbys) were gone. I offered...

    Reverse lever fab..

I've broken a couple of reverse levers. The first I was setting it in the ratchet and the second (on the ratchet below) broke getting banged around in a tool bag. I've reused older ones with no issues and noticed them to be, how should I say... re-bendable. The newer ones are a crumbly pot...

    Wilton bullet question...

I noticed that the back piece moves a bit when the slide moves out. I checked to see how big the gap is between the body and the end piece and a 2 1/2 thousandths feeler gage will just about fit. How is everyone else's ?? Can you move it or is yours tight.?

    Historian ratchet hoarders..

Do any of you know what the patent number is for this ratchet. I know it was developed in the 60's by Herbrand first. I saw it in Google patents a while back and like a dummy I didn't save it. Now I can't find it. Thanks for any help.

    SO overstrike broaching ..

Here's an old 5/8 drive 15/16 six pointer. The first thing I noticed about it is the really nasty broaching. Also looks like some kind of grinding tool was used. Is this common for Snap On sockets from this time frame or is this piece one of he last ones made before replacing the cutting tool .?

    Old breaker bars.

Looking at my Snap On (f-10-hg) next to some others it looks awful skinny. Could the alloy have been that much better than Indestro Super ( which someone had put a pipe on, mashed all the knurling and it's still tight as new) or did they just make it extra thin for whatever reason? The Craftsman...

    Kilness patent ratchet work

Got this little 1/4 drive Husky and it felt like it was used to build an aircraft carrier. When I opened it up the pawl and teeth were hardly worn. What was wrong? I took it all he way apart and it was missing the steel ball in front of the spring. Put a new one in and big improvement but not...

    Snap On GM-70-m ?

Can anyone recognize this date stamp from my crappy pics. I think it's 1939 but not sure. Font in the date code charts can vary slightly so resident Snap on experts are more help. Thanks for any help

    Craftsman socks.

Exactly 2 years ago I bought a few pairs of socks at Sears. They are Craftsman brand made in USA .They've definitely worn down and are balled up but I wear them a lot. After 2 years and more time yet to go I can say they are good socks.

    Vise type poll

I've always preferred swivel base vises but until several months ago had never used a fixed base model . Now that I've used a fixed base vise I wonder what everyone who's used both types opinion is . Do you prefer swivel or fixed base?

What kind of magnet is this..

I thought it was a piece of steel or iron that was magnetized. I wanted to bend it so I chucked it in my vise and tapped it with a hammer. It broke in two. It looks like some kind of crystal or glass on the inside. Anyone know what it is ?

    Adjustable comparison ...

I've always liked Proto adjustables. They're tied with Williams and Armstrong d- channel adjustables for my favorites and I even like the newer ones. That's saying a lot because I usually don't like new tools. Anyway I noticed that they are currently thicker than they were in the past ...

    Garbage in garbage out.

Thanks to forum moderators for keeping the place tidy. Thanks also to users who are rational and mature enough to use the report button instead of trying to argue with some one who's purpose is to argue. I usually get suckered in.
