    20 year's to learn a lesson

It'll be different this time i said. Nope. Just added insult to injury. Trying to schluter a shower. First time. It all *****. Thinset, kerdi band, buckets all of it. 20 years ago I did all the floor tile and showers. It turned out well but there was weeping and gnashing of teeth along the...

    Nee shower flood test

I am building a curbless shower in the shop . They say to flood test it to make sure it doesn't leak. How do you do that with a shower with no curb? I guess i can fill it as much as I can but is there another way and something I'm not thinking of? This is as far as I've gotten so far. Will...

New shop AC now running, but..

40x60x 16 foot walls. It was fairly mild today in the mid 80s. 4 ton unit i installed myself. What is a fair time to get down to temperature? The tech that brazed the lines said the pressures and readings were good. He took temps on supply and intake. I think it was around 20 degrees or so...

    Breaker panel layout.

Now that I have power to the shop I'll be wiring the panel. I did wire the two lighting circuits so I could finally have some lights. What is your preferred method of breaker location in the panel? Like all the 240 DP on one side, or staggered left to right? SP breakers on one side or staggered...

Muletape footage markings, are they accurate?

I have a run of 4/0 MHF that I thought was 355 ft according to my measuring wheel. Ok, I'll add 20 ft and buy 375 ft. The muletape reads 400 ft at the far end and 24 ft at the lugs in the panel. So 376 ft in the conduit. I'm wondering if those footage markings are that accurate. They...

Ground rods and wire for shop

I will be installing power to my shop. All steel shop. I bought 2, 8ft ground rods that I will install. How far apart should the ground rods be ? I also bought lugs to attach to the building steel. My plan is to come out of the panel (separate ground bar and not the neutral bar) hit the lug...

Floor coating for 2400 sq ft new shop. Too much to read through and different opinions everywhere.

I have just built a 60x40 shop and the next thing to do before I move stuff in is to put a coating on the concrete floor. I've read until I've got a headache. Differing opinions in every thread . I will be doing this myself and want easy. I know that's probably not possible as I'm sure it's a...

5 minute job , more like 5 hours. Condensate AC drain line.

I was going to put this in the HVAC forum but really not an AC issue. A couple days ago I noticed a small black spot on the bathroom ceiling. Eh I look at it later. So today I looked at it, soaked a rag in bleach and jammed it up there and wedged it with one of those adjustable poles for...

Receptacles. 15 or 20 amp for shop?

Well which? I've always favored 20a as in my mind I feel they are more robust and able to withstand more abuse. But I don't know really. I will be using self grounding as it was recommended in another thread. That's so I don't have to ground each one and can just ground the metal 4x4 box. And...

Need bracing for wall mounted air handler

I finally hung my 4 ton air handler on unistrut in the shop. The weight is causing it to tip away from the wall and I need to stiffen up my brackets. I was thinking of using all thread on an angle. The rod won't sit flat on the bracket though. Is there another way to stiffen this up?

Help installing large rollup doors. Geometry math question

Yep I'm rolling my own. lol I have installed two 14x14 and a 12x14 so far and have one more 12x14 to go. I'm having an issue where the door is all the way down it wants to track to the right and rub the guide rail(looking at it inside the building). When the door is rolled up there is equal...

ATS on meter /main breaker pedestal

I will be installing two 200 amp ATS's. My meter pedestal has the two 200A mains in it already. I don't see a way to install the load wires from the meter to the ATS and then back to the main breaker which would now be a subpanel. I do not see a way to isolate the neutral buss bar for that...

How would you make a filter tray for this air handler?

I'm going to be installing HVAC for my shop. The AH will sit on the wall on a unistrut bracket. It is a vertical install and upflow. Is that right? It will draw from the bottom. There is no provision into the bottom for a filter. I was going to use some 1x1x1 U or J trim like that is used for...

Year 2005 wiring for house. NEC?

I built my house in 2005 /2006.. What would have been the NEC code to follow back then? I know some areas are late to follow with new codes. This is in Montgomery county , Texas. Just to add, there is no permit, code or inspections as this is an unincorporated area. The only permit required...

Residential doors on red iron building

I am planning to use Thermatru fiberglass doors on my red iron shop building so they will match the house. According to my builder they will only open 90° due to the 8 inch rough framing on the building. He said he can get 6" jambs but can't set them back all the way to the inside of the rough...

HVAC for 40x60x16 red iron building?

Hi. Looking for recommendations and trying to decide on the size of HVAC I'll need. As the title says, it's a 40x60 with 16' eave height and a 5/12 roof. It's all one big open space except for a small 4x10 shower/ toilet bathroom. It will be insulated with 2" of closed cell spray foam on the...

On my 16x20 building my front poles are at 16 ft 0 1/2". They should be 16 ft, and they are at the bottom and middle. However at the top they are a 1/2" out. I'm building a 4x6 truss that will sit atop these poles. The bought trusses are 16 ft. Should I build my truss 16 ft and pull the poles...

Plywood floor getting soaked from rain.

My new 3/4" plywood floor has been soaked twice from rain. Looks like it will get a couple more soakings before I can get a roof over it. How long can it last getting soaked , drying, more wet, more dry? I have the walls and trusses up but trusses need more bracing and can't get metal on it...
