    Dental Compressor for Air Tools??

I don't think that's a dental compressor. More likely an "industrial application" unit. Gast pumps are great units for low CFM applications, but not for automotive grade air tools.

Oilless upright compressor on its side?

Maybe they want to make sure that the pump and cylinder are out of "harm's way" during transport. Laying on the side might cause these items to get bumped and potentially damaged. I've seen oiless contractor compressor's running in all sort of odd positions and get transported the same way.

Oilless upright compressor on its side?

If it's a regular splash lubricated pump (not oiless) then they were right. Many compressors come filled with "break-in" oil, and if they are layed sideways, it'll leak oil though then crankcase vent. On oiless compressors it dosn't matter how you store it. But I wouldn't run a vertical oiless...

    Combination Wrenches....choices

I've wrenched professionally and otherwise since the early 70's and bought quite a lot of tools from "the truck" and from Sears. In all those years, the best warranty service has been with Sears. Their Pro series wrenches are by far the best bargain in US made tools. That said, the raised...

    I used an Ignition Wrench!

I still use point distributors, but as you mentioned, they are very good for installing gauges. Gotta have a complete set of every kind --

Very Old Sun Battery and Starter Tester

This early 1950's model "Y" battery/starter tester is a tribute to Sun's quality and engineering. It's still woking!! Yes it's officially a "Model Y" and not a "BST" Battery Starter Tester, so it has to be a very early 1950's model. I hooked it up and checked it with a modern VOM and Ammeter...

SK is not going to like this

I'd keep it and mount it in display shadow box. It's a great conversation piece. Chances are you'll never see that again in your lifetime.

Dumbest thing you've ever done in your garage...

Sounds familiar!! When I started as an apprentice mechanic (in the dark ages :bounce:) I was hooking up a remote starter switch when a colleague asked to borrow a file from my box. As I reached over to get it, my thigh hit the remote starter and the car proceeded to head straight for the wall in...

    Sheds

Some years ago I built a basic 8x12 Saltbox design (flat sloped roof) over the course of a weekend, and I have absolutley no carpentry skills. Just look for a flat roof design -- it'll go up fast and you'll save 50-60% of the prefab price. OSB and 2x4's are cheap. As an alternative, check...

    Suggestions on Cheap A/C

I owned a two level, open floor design 900sq/ft barn that was turned into a garage. I installed a 12000 BTU, Room AC unit at the highest level -- right below the roof line. Then I ran a 220 circuit. That AC unit kept the whole garage (both floors) comfortable during the hottest Virginia summers...

    broken tap removal

Got a welder? Carefully build the broken tap up flush with Mig wire or welding rod, then take a flat washer and put it over the hole, and weld the washer to the built up tap material. Now take a good sized nut and spot weld it to washer. Next, use an appropriately sized wrench on the nut and...
