Anyone else having problems with words being asterisked out on this Forum?

I do not know what is causing it. It may be something I did in some preferences somewhere. Just last week it started. Any word that may just be the least offensive to someone turns out with all of the letters showing up as asterisks in the forum. Even in the Garage Sale thread the word...

Another odd fellow wrench, I thought home made.. but possibly not

OK, this came from a box of tools that were in a garage sale. The rest of the tools were old and good quality brand name USA made. I just tossed this to the side as a home made special purpose item. Later I looked at it extremely well. Very well made with no markings. Overall length 11...

Unplated Craftsman DBE wrench, MDF 'V' marked.

These two Craftsman offset Box end wrenches came in a garage sale lot. They are both identical design and both marked with the Moore Drop Forging 'V". However, one is plated and one shows no sign of ever being plated. I took the pictures outside and used a flash so there is some reflection on...

    Vintage unknown maker sockets

These were in a full Snap On K21 Tool Box I bought at an Estate Sale. I did not look very much at the contents of the box when I bought it because I wanted the Toolbox. When I started looking at the contents these sockets immediately caught my attention. First thing I though was early...

    Craftsman Pocket Scratch Awl

This was in the bottom of a box of stuff I bought at a yard sale. My first thought was that it probably a nail set (NO NOT a Saw Set :) ) Then I realized it had a round top which would not be on a nail set. I messed with it and found the bottom unscrewed and it had a scribe point inserted...

    Plvmb 5320?? ignition obstruction wrench

Bought this yesterday. Kind of a mystery to me. Number 5320, I know of no Plvmb wrenches number starting with a '5". Number 3320 would make more sense, so it could be a misprint. It is cad plated and I assume WWII. Has the style and stampings of the WF series. The other thing is there is no...

Some questions about some vintage tools I bought today

These are some vintage tools I bought today from an estate. Some of the ones I bought were unfamiliar to me but I have found out about them here on GJ (They were Wilde, Meteor, and Filson). My first question are about these two unbranded. The No.723 has no markings on the back side. Anyone...

    Samson S Wrench

Digging around in my 'stuff' I ran across this wrench again. I have seen the few 'Samson' listings here and elsewhere that I have searched, but I have not found any reference to "Samson Tool Company New York" anywhere. This 15/16 / 1 inch wrench is just marked 304 on one end and Samson Tool...

    Possible wrench ID

I am going to post these tomorrow with the rest of the stuff from a garage sale. There are a couple of wrenches that I need to possible ID on. All US made. First there are three wrenches from a probable set. They are marked 'MADE IN U.S.A.' on one side and 'FORGED STEEL' on the other side...

Some kind of spreader, What is this?

Got this in a garage sale. No makers mark (I think). On the bolt head end has SCF, PX, 11-2 and F. The outside diameters are 1 5/8 and 2 inches. The bolt head is well rounded, so it had a lot of force put on it. At first, I thought it might be an exhaust pipe spreader. However, the...

2000 Ford E150 What the heck is this piece?

2000 Ford E150 handicap conversion van. Automatic with V6. I was driving along, and this fell out on the floor driver's side step. Heavy duty piece well-greased. Everything seems to be working OK. Before I start tearing things out does anyone know what this is for?

    Monkey wrench markings

I certainly love old tools. Just one of the reasons I like GJ. I do not particularly look for the traditional 'Monkey Wrench', but if one comes up cheap enough at a sale, I will pick it up. Could not pass this one up for $2 since it is railroad marked on one side. My question is the only...

    Another 'What is This?'

I am not sure if this is vintage or not, came with some older American made tools in a auction. Looks like it has had some hard use, chewed up end on handle (Pliers probably) and some mashing on some of the grooves. I thought it might be for expanding O rings, but the rough usage would not be...

    A&E Ratcheting Wrench used for?

This is a A&E Ratcheting 1/2-inch wrench on one end and what? on the other. The only marking is the original 1950 Patent number 2500835. The other end is rounded with a bevel cut in it that goes about 2/3 of the way through. Not a sharp edge. Any Guesses?

Lamson & Sessions 12-inch Monkey Wrench

Ran across a 12-inch long Lamson & Sessions Monkey Wrench. Not much information about tool production from a company that is still in business. One Bicycle wrench on AA. A couple of mentions here. No real history of dates that I came across.

Famco Arbor Press #1, repurposed for what?

I bought this Famco No. 1 years ago at an auction because it was the right price. I just stored it then since I have a Dake already mounted in the shop. Moving things around and unburied it and my curiosity has gotten to me. It has obviously been repurposed for some kind of fabrication use...

Any Idea what this is for?

This was in a box of tools I bought at a yard sale. Only marking is 157 cast in the bottom of the handle. Fairly crude finishing, casting flash in top of square hole and in handle open slot. Square hole is tapered, bigger at the bottom and smaller at the top, 11/16 inch at the bigger end...

    Don't know what this is...

This was in a SK toolbox I bought. It may not even be tool related. Most of the rest of the tools in the box were much older than the toolbox. Some Walden I recognized as Model T specialty tools and others. It is 13 1/4 inches overall. The square is 7/16 on both ends. I thought a drill bit...

    Motorcycle tool kit wrench? ID

I am heavy into old motorcycles, so I always pick up old motorcycle tool kit wrenches at sales. This particular wrench looks like a typical Asian Tool kit wrench and was in with some early Kawasaki wrenches. I do not recognize the manufacturer, it may be just an aftermarket one. It seems to...

    Flathead Valve Spring Compressor

I was going through some of my old automotive tools. Of the multiple Flathead Valve Spring Compressors I have this one which stands out because it has no company name on it despite being very well made. I took it out in the sunlight with a magnifying glass to look at it closer. Only then did...
