    Sealed floor?

I know this subject has been beat to death but I wanted to get some input here. Just bought a house and wanted to epoxy the garage floor before I move all of my junk in. I've spent the last couple of weeks researching and reading everything I can. For the life of me I can't tell if the floor...

    Heat exchanger cleaner

Hey guys, I have recently taken over a site that has an air compressor with some really bad approach temps on it's AC/OC. Judging from all the white crustys built up on this thing, it looks like the last guy thought running a sprinkler on it was a permanent solution. Can anyone recommend a...

    DIN rail 120V GFPE breaker

Does anyone know of a reputable manufacturer that makes a DIN rail mount GFPE breaker 15A trip or lower? I've looked into UL1053 RCCB's but I haven't been able to find anything 120v and 15A trip. I figured these would exist since you can get panel mount GFPE's all day long from every...

    Taper lock/QD hub stuck

Anyone have any tricks to get a QD hub freed up? (sometimes people call these Taperlocks...same but different). I've got six 1-1/8" hubs on fans that are frozen solid; looks like someone gooped everything up with anti-seize(idiots) and then ran the pull bolts up as tight as possible. These...

    Old wire

So my friend bought an old house(1907) in St. Louis and this is what the garage is wired up with. Anyone run in to this stuff before? Looks almost like what you would see in an old airplane or ship, especially with the tinned conductors and what looks like a shield. Looks like a silvery cloth...

    Oil drain pan

Does anyone know of any decent sealable oil drain pans that actually last and don't leak? I bought one of these about a year ago and thought it would be great since the caps had actual O-rings and the body felt decently thick.... that is until one of the corners started leaking oil all over the...

What the hell am I looking at?

Alright here's a new one for me. So yesterday I went out to Bum-f$%@ nowhere Colorado to start one of my idle compressors and noticed some odd voltage numbers on my pre-startup checks. 480V 3phase dedicated service from POCO , no loads, main breaker open, readings taken from line side of...

    Large funnel

Does anyone know of a manufacturer that makes really big funnels? I'm looking for something with like a 3-5.5" outlet hole and like a 1.5-2' top, height isn't all that important. I've looked and can't seem to find anything like it. Starting to think I might have to just make something...

    Code or no?

I have this MCC at a site that scares the **** out of me any time I have to do any switching or troubleshooting. I know I need a platform in front of the doors.....that's in the works. But even if there was a platform does this meet code? With the doors open there's only 21" between the face...

    HVAC measurements

What's the story behind HVAC stuff using "nominal" sizes for filters and other stuff? I know some manufacturers list the actual size, but a lot of times it's just a rounded up number....what's the point? Is there some history behind this kind of like how a 2x4 isn't 2" x 4" anymore?

    Steel awning/overhang thing

I'm looking to put a 10' metal awning/overhang on the side of a 20' container. Originally I was going to just fabricate a frame out of strut or square tube and screw some corrugated roof panels to it but the thought crossed my mind that maybe one of those metal building companies might already...

    Lube

What's your go to and what do you call it? I've used the blue greenlee, yellow greenlee, clear ideal jelly stuff, yellow pasty stuff and heard it called anything from elephant snot to cable ***. I've never really see a clear advantage from one to the other, other than price at the time...

    Transformer secondary OCP?

Hey guys, having some trouble understanding the requirements for overcurrent protection on the secondary of a transformer. I read through 240.21 and 450.3 and some stuff makes it seem like I don't need OCP on the secondary and some stuff makes it sound like I do. I'm leaning towards not...

    amp rating?

Alright I'm confusing myself so hopefully someone can help me out. I know they're amperage ratings but what exactly does "1max(A)" and "1eff(A)" mean?

20 ton Chiller compressors cycling too often?

How often should my chiller compressors be cycling? Right now I'm seeing them run for about 5 minutes, rest for 5-10 minutes and then start over again (Usually 10-15 minute cycles if that makes any sense). I'm wondering if my water pump speed might need to be adjusted(they're on a VFDs)...

    Ptfe?

Anyone recognize this stuff or know what it would be used for? It feels a whole lot like thread tape so I’m pretty sure it’s PTFE but it’s 3/4” wide and about 3/8” thick with an adhesive on one side. Sent from my iPhone using The Garage Journal mobile app

    Concrete pad drainage

Hey guys, I have quite a few low spots on a concrete pad that turn into a skating rink in the winter. I’m wanting to make some small trenches in the concrete to help them drain out of the walkways. I bought a diamond wheel for my 7” angle grinder and went to town on a few spots, but this is...

    New/Old Amprobe

I got this old amprobe a few years back from a friends grandpa and just got around to checking it out. From the looks of it I don’t think this thing has ever been touched let alone used. I’m guessing it’s from the 60s or 70s. What’s crazy to me is that ancient Union-Carbide AAA is still...

    500watt Halogen to LED retrofit

Is anyone aware of any quality LED retrofit bulbs for a 120v 500watt halogen flood light similar to what you'd find in a work light? The bulb I'd like to replace is a 500T3Q/CL FCL. I tried to search, but didn't find anything.

    Eaton Pow-R-Line

Anyone familiar with Eaton Pow-r-line PRL1a breaker panels? I'm trying to figure out my maximum branch circuit to run to a subpanel but there isn't anything listed on the panel itself. It seems like since these are commercial/industrial I might have to do some math to figure it out. I found...
